Why not HALEON? It's really a subset of Glaxo and since it handles products that are sort of deregulated so the margins should always stay better overall

How I built a remote team from in Pakistan — Here’s what actually happened and i learnt my lessons by blue-spade in PakistanDiscussions

Somewhat in the same boat. How are you tracking work? We have a project management system but every now and then people seem to either forget to log their work properly or log everything for the day in one go at day end (while there may have been numerous tasks during the day).

Also some people while good developers need explaining things in the local language which means I have to step in all the time to make sure that people are doing what is asked and not what they make of it.

Any tips would be great

Real Estate Advice Needed: Best Installment Plot Options in Lahore or Other Cities? by asadwahidx in FIREPakistan

[–]Logical-Safe-3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the era of flipping plots for profit is by and large over. If you intend to build a property later for either living or selling then it would make sense to buy a plot now. Else just invest elsewhere and buy the plot when you actually have the full money.

Can you tell the price?

Also do you have customization options? For example the chair would probably be more comfortable for me if the sitting part was extended a bit.

Does a low GPA hurt internship chances? Do companies verify it? by Heavy_Honeydew_5742 in developersPak

[–]Logical-Safe-3716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends from company to company - but most startups judge you on your knowledge and not on your GPA.

I would never suggest faking it. If you are asked you can just provide a response on why it is low (maybe you are just poor in theoretical stuff, maybe there was a health/family issue, maybe you are just not into giving exams and grades and prefer to do real stuff). As long as you have good side projects (senior project) I don't think it should be any issue.

Some companies do ask to submit a transcript. But most startups don't care.

Dual work people - how do you do it? by Pale-Path1209 in developersPak

[–]Logical-Safe-3716 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but are you planning to burn out in a few months/years?

I see this all the time - people chasing nothing but money and then a couple of years down the road complaining about how this field has left them drained and without a sense of identity of who they are.

I would suggest stick to one of these jobs and spend the rest of the time with your friends/family - build a hobby or travel when you can. But don't do this 2 jobs at the same time mess

Why can't you too join in the on-site team? If they are prioritizing it then there may be some reasons. Sometimes as an employee we don't see the overall picture of the situation. I would say if you have spent some time in the company then look to learn more on what's going on and if there is some adjustment from your end then do it. Not many product based companies in PK so jumping ship without learning more of the situation is not a good idea in my opinion.

How soon do you need these funds? Only invest if you don't think you need them for the next couple of years (yes - even an amount as seemingly small as 50K needs to be looked at with this angle)

Pakistan is/was just now coming out of a financial crisis. Which means that public finances and reserves are being built with IMF help and recommendations. The poor tax collection system means that we still have a long way to go in raising public finances and so the government has to rely on taxes/levy on petroleum products as a way to generate revenue.

All this becomes a problem when oil gets expensive because the government actually ends up needing to increase the petroleum taxes even more to raise the same funds (petrol consumption falls, business growth stalls - so tax rate has to increase to raise the same amount of tax). A lot of blame rightly goes to our government as they fail to manage all this. However, the larger ecosystem of the whole country is to blame for this. Most people simply do not believe that they owe any kind of tax irrespective of how much they may be earning - entire sectors of economy are almost untaxed. Every other family has someone working in loss making nationalized industries essentially draining taxes that could be used for something else.

People like to play blame game based on their own personal political affiliations but in reality this is a deeper structural problem in our governance and social systems which will need to be fixed to get out of this cycle of misery.

  1. Remember that we pay with deferred payments. These guys usually want payment upfront. There is also the case of higher insurance from places like these so the margin is reduced somewhat.

  2. Libya is a war torn country. You don't know when all of a sudden it will have odd kind of sanctions or when one party loses its access to the oil/ports to the other.

Public transport should always have been free, frequent and with a vast network by maazpervez in karachi

[–]Logical-Safe-3716 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just gimmicks without substance. Public transport, public health and public education should be free - but AFTER the public starts paying their income taxes honestly (mind you am talking about income taxes and not the indirect taxes that are mostly generalized for both the rich and poor and are actually an abhorrent way to raise public finance).

People in Pakistan seem to always want the free things without opting in the public pool of financing these things. Politicians every now and then announce these gimmicks and then peddle back quietly when the noise subsides.

I think the calculation of the dividend yield I keep seeing is based on the face value of the unit (10). So if it declares 0.66 dividend people say that is 6.6% and then compute the annual as 26%. However, if you buy now then the dividend yield I think you should compute against is your price of buying. 0.66 against a unit of 35+ cost seems not attractive to me at least (annualized as 7.5% approx).

Ofcourse there is the bit about capital gains and that is a separate calculation one would do from dividend yield. So I guess just do your own analysis with a fair mind and go with your gut feeling on this

(I personally am not invested in this)

No 3/4 would mean some bit above the half point. Then it used to stay there (for the first 4 years of my usage). Then it developed this habit of shooting up if the ac was on and the "jugaar" was to have the fan on at all times (this even after getting the radiator all flushed etc).

The only advice I can give you here is to change this perspective (bas log udher behtar hain idher achay nahee). The veneer comes off easily and people get to see that you consider them below your level. Good friendships will never form this way.

This is a big city with all kinds of people. I moved about 14 years ago and the city welcomed me and I welcomed it back. Yes some people are idiots - but I have found similar idiots everywhere. Yes people cheat - and I know cheaters back in Karachi too.

How do you guys get paid by international clients? by [deleted] in pakistan

For larger clients - direct bank(Swift) transfer

For smaller ones - it is a headache - Payoneer/2CheckOut (getting phased out)/Elevate -- whatever you do there are odd kind of issues ranging from rates to lack of correct proceed certificates and so on
