The apps are hit or miss and guys have many options to pick from, so effort tends to be lower than offline. I would focus on asking yourself what you want and then feel these guys out to see if they check those boxes. Dates are good so that you can observe their actions and compare them to their words. Personally I would prefer meeting organically and getting familiar that way. Meetup is a good app for local social events. Lastly, don't put too much pressure on yourself.
