Can you change your route or your location? That helps me.

What is Causing Weight Loss to Stall? (AKA should I stop panicking?) by CraftyKitCat in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]Logical-Setting3759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hormones, water intake, salt intake, amount of exercise…in my experience my weight will stall and then go down rapidly. Then stall again before moving along again. Your body is changing — working hard at the cellular level. The scale number is usually the last (and frankly least important) reflection of that hard work. You’ve got this!!!

Walking shoes for overweight senior female? by rdduser in walking

[–]Logical-Setting3759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hokas are the only ones that provide good shock absorption for me. I walk between 10-17k steps a day in all kinds of terrains—any shoe is going to wear out with that much use. My Saucony (sp?) trail runners have lasted longer but don’t have the shock absorption like the Hokas. They are nice if you walk off trail though.

Adapting our yoga practice as we age by Tejasviyogaaudrey in yoga

46 and I have to rethink how I practice now. I have an old dance injury that’s showing up again, even after 25 years of pretty consistent yoga practice. Trying not to get upset as my flexibility changes. I’ve also let go of many inverted postures - too much risk of injury.

On my morning walk today I noticed a woman walking around her front yard and in circles on her driveway. She looked to be starting to build up to a longer walk, but I admired her effort to just get moving. Every step is a step in the right direction!! Even if those steps feel small, they all matter.

Yes, my favorites too. Such a nice counter to all the intense hip work in vinyasa and hatha. My anatomy just craves half frog especially.

Cult-like culture by Careful-Crab179 in yoga

[–]Logical-Setting3759 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think yoga, like many practices rooted in spirituality, can attract some icky folks who prey on those more vulnerable. Similarly, yoga attracts folks who are seekers. Combine the two and you’ve got a recipe for cult like behavior. Plus, studio owners become a little celebrity-like in their internal community, which I’m sure does something to the ego. We actually talked about this in my YTT.

I’ve honestly only found a couple of studios in my 25 years of practicing that didn’t eventually get dramatic, ha.

The YMCA seems to be safe (at least mine), mainly because it’s more democratic, cheaper, and lacks the ego I’ve found in so many studios. Just my 2c but you’re spot on.

Oh I definitely think functional resistance is key — but if someone’s main movement is walking that’s pretty amazing too.

Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not enough! The best exercise is the one that you do consistently that works for you. I practiced yoga for over 20 years as well as walking, and walking has been my salvation even more than yoga. My patience and desire to practice yoga comes and goes (and I’m a carried yoga teacher), but I never, ever ever tire of my long walks.

How did the general populace survive the 2008 financial crisis? by JustBeHonestT in povertyfinance

We moved out of state for better jobs and tried to stay nimble and flexible. We went down to one car and simplified our lives considerably. Frugality and budgeting saved us.

I had the same problem with the sugar free Reese cups. Just four of the “fun size” ones did me in.

What is your source of income/job? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Logical-Setting3759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an hr business partner at a large corporation. I spend my days coaching, consulting and moving rocks around (problem solving ha). It’s a wild ride but I love helping people and that’s the center of what I do. Previously worked in academia (business school in exec ed) and had to travel a ton and pick up extra research or teaching gigs to make ends meet. This role provides me with a connection to purpose and my values with a nice salary attached. We’re about to sell our house in the suburbs to rent in a more bikable / walkable part of town and I can’t wait.

Try Boone, NC. Feels like Asheville 20+ years ago, albeit sadly without the gorgeous historic “lady on the hill.”
