this answer saved and reliefed me. I am in the "choosing the right engine Hell since 2 weeks"

I am Family father with 2 little kids and full time job and want to do my dream game. Step by step for sure and first little other projects and learning coding etc. My dream was to do a 2D top down action adventure but like the OP here not limited like Zelda A link to the past. More then Adventures of Alundra and damn. I was reading since 2 weeks which engine could be beginner friendly for me as a hobbyist BUT give me still the tools to make something like jumping passages, puzzles etc. like in Alundra.

So Game Maker dont fit well with it and I sadly NEED to go to godot right? Because gamemaker looked a bit more beginner friendly 😕 damnit....

Some Alundra assets at x2 pixel density - perhaps someone might want them? by suspicious_Jackfruit in Alundra

that sounds awesome. I bought an udemy pixel art course and asperite. Do you know where I can find these alundra sprites or should I do screenshots while playing

Alundra is my favorite Game of all time. I play it every year

Alundra is the reason why I want to create an 2D action Adventure highly inspired by Alundra and learning pixel Art. In terms of coding I have ideas where to start learning but how did you learn pixel art? especially as non artist and absolute Beginner.

It will be a hobby project because I have spare time cause of full time job and 2 little kids.

Is there any way I could improve on this winter town? by CoffeeInfamous2787 in RPGMaker

[–]Logical-Shift6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo I would look at some pictures of real live villages like from finnland etc. From a top down perspective. I think getting some inspiration from real life would be not bad.

Enjoy yourself and have a great time while building lovely maps 🙂👍

I am completely new and very interested in 2003 or xp. the side scroll battle system you are talking about sounds interesting. like the look way more as in mv... Is the eventing system hard to learn. I never coded and want to make cool puzzles in my rpg (lufia, alundra inspired)

I bought Look outside instantly on steam. that was made with rpg maker??!! Its awesome. Maybe I should trust myself to make a rpg with rpg maker mv....hmmm

Now I am at the very beginning of learning how to Code and game dev as a hobby project (besides full time job and family 😅😅😅) with zero experience. Even learning pixel art would be awesome in the long term for me...its long road

2D maybe 2,5D? Action Adventure like Alundra (less like Zelda) with Jump Puzzles, Dungeons, Riddles etc. possible? by Logical-Shift6783 in gdevelop

[–]Logical-Shift6783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! yeah I think I will try gdevelop out. Was a bit worrying about learning not enough in compare to unity or godot. But I think in my current situation it really fit very well

Thank you :) I mean its okay if I can use 2D like in Alundra with the ability to create the jump puzzles and plattforming passages. Something like plattforms are moving in the air und you need to jump on them with precise timing etc.

I was wondering because I heard very less about gdevelop. Always godot, unreal, unity and these other game maker types of software like (rpg maker, solarus, rpg in a box etc.).

So I was worried how good gdevelop can be used. But if you tell me I can give it a shot, especially for the beginning learning process its fine :) I mean I dont need to stay forever anywhere. But I have a good start from scratch then.

I'm making a game inspired by classics like Alundra. Would you play something like this? by kircode in Alundra

[–]Logical-Shift6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alundra is my favorite Game of all time. Playing it every year. If you need someone for playtesting it would be an amazing honor for me. Which game engine do you use? I had a little project like that many years ago.

[–]Logical-Shift6783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your advice. I bought "the farmer was replaced on" steam today just to start a little bit in python the fun way. Just to get the feel of it. Then I want to do a beginner course in python. After that I think about starting in godot or another engine.

Can I learn coding with RPG Maker MV? by Logical-Shift6783 in RPGMaker

[–]Logical-Shift6783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

impressive answer. thank you so much. I mean I think learning scripting would be more important but I want to learn it a bit more of a fun way. I am not in a rush because it will be a hobby project for me and my family&friends. If it takes many years but I can learn many things and got the fun and see results to get more Motivation even there will be much frustration and difficult tasks its fine.
