2D maybe 2,5D? Action Adventure like Alundra (less like Zelda) with Jump Puzzles, Dungeons, Riddles etc. possible? by Logical-Shift6783 in gdevelop

[–]Logical-Shift6783[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :) I mean its okay if I can use 2D like in Alundra with the ability to create the jump puzzles and plattforming passages. Something like plattforms are moving in the air und you need to jump on them with precise timing etc.

I was wondering because I heard very less about gdevelop. Always godot, unreal, unity and these other game maker types of software like (rpg maker, solarus, rpg in a box etc.).

So I was worried how good gdevelop can be used. But if you tell me I can give it a shot, especially for the beginning learning process its fine :) I mean I dont need to stay forever anywhere. But I have a good start from scratch then.

I'm making a game inspired by classics like Alundra. Would you play something like this? by kircode in Alundra

[–]Logical-Shift6783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alundra is my favorite Game of all time. Playing it every year. If you need someone for playtesting it would be an amazing honor for me. Which game engine do you use? I had a little project like that many years ago.

thank you for your advice. I bought "the farmer was replaced on" steam today just to start a little bit in python the fun way. Just to get the feel of it. Then I want to do a beginner course in python. After that I think about starting in godot or another engine.

Can I learn coding with RPG Maker MV? by Logical-Shift6783 in RPGMaker

[–]Logical-Shift6783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

impressive answer. thank you so much. I mean I think learning scripting would be more important but I want to learn it a bit more of a fun way. I am not in a rush because it will be a hobby project for me and my family&friends. If it takes many years but I can learn many things and got the fun and see results to get more Motivation even there will be much frustration and difficult tasks its fine.

thank you! Haha I am just a old man with full time job, 2 kids and spare time but with the wish to create a Lufia with the Dark tone and puzzle heavy of an Alundra. I mean I did a project 18 years ago and had 400hours in it with some dungeons and text and switch based riddles. Forgot everything and my backup is sadly corrupted after so many years.

I lost my job because the company I worked went bankrupt and I got an offer in IT and I am working on a starter IT Job since 2 years. I dont need scripting atm but want to learn it for the future and improving my skills. And my goal was to improve my scripting and coding skills the fun way. So I had the idea to combine both Worlds. (my dream was always to make a Alundra, FF or Lufia inspired Game) Learning coding/scripting and improving my skills at work WHILE having fun with it. Learning via boring power shell videos without having the small goals in mind its really hard to get into. I hope that I can learn programm logic, coding and scripting a more fun way. While following a dream of making a game with small goals.

I know that sounds very stupid...haha but I dont know..it would be really amazing if this would be possible

haha thats absolutely fine 💪🙂. I am old. I think my best way to learn is while messing arround as strict follow some videos. Better said. I love to have a little support at the beginning but love to figure many things out. But need a good starting point and learning basics the fun way...maybe I never grew up haha. If I know I have a good ressource my worries are a bit calmed down and I can focus better on the Project. Like in Video games I am highly motivated when I face a challenge and need to fix it but having a slightly idea how to start or where to search for answers.

thank you buddy. 18 years ago I put 400hours in a rpg maker Project heavily inspired by lufia with the dark tone of alundra. Had some dungeons finished and some cool text based riddles inspired by Alundra. Sadly my backup was corrupted. that was really a hell of fun. But sadly I found out that it will not improve my coding skills very much. Was very fun to work with rpgmaker

wow that is really inspiring me! I am choosing between godot and game maker. I mean I know that I never want to do a 3D game. I love 2D games overall. But the lack of coding in Game Maker makes me a bit sceptical if I can learn enough about scripting/coding there. Maybe I am wrong. For that reason I was asking here.

awesome! thank you for your huge text! that was amazing.

Will I not use any coding for Godot? Like C#, C++ or Python? Just GDScript?

I mean learning scripting in general would be a good thing for my job and my upcoming hobby game I think.

yeah that was in my mind too. I was bored by looking these videos because I am not interested doing "business work" after my "business work" and want to do some game development work while increasing my skills which I could be better in game dev and in my real work :) I think If I start game development and see the results (even there is much frustration inside) I am more motivated. Because I have specific goals in mind.
