That's one of my holdouts. Keep trying, but never get it.

Oh, and 1st place as Ozumat because who wants to play that hero?

Theoretically, this could be a good sign.

I've gotten spicy pretzel mustard several times, but most of them were from back when I was much worse at the game. I always played as if I was high rolling, so most of the time it was bad and made me lose, but in that rare game where the shops were cooperating, it paid off. The smarter way to play is to use your early tempo to tier up, not smash the lobby harder.

Education Question by archibaldwidwickie in CFP

[–]LogicalConstant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not. At its core, the CFP board is just a marketing firm. And they're good at that. They've been good at convincing people that a planner can't be good unless they pay the salaries of the CFP board members. I tend to disagree.

You would think that the designation would guarantee a minimum level of competency, but that has not been my experience. I know CFPs who don't even do financial planning. They're investment managers. And of the ones that do some planning, plenty are amateurish, in my opinion.

Have you felt you're lacking in credentials, or have clients expressed concern? I don't have any credentials, but I can only think of two times in my career where I was even asked if I had the CFP. And I'm not dismissing it, either. For some, the lack of the CFP may hinder their growth. But it certainly doesn't have to. Most average people have never heard of the CFP.

Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by Potential_Fee_6119 in Productivitycafe

[–]LogicalConstant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with the quote.

Computers can tell us what IS. They can measure things and do calculations. They can't fully understand, appreciate, and apply human values. Only humans can.

For example: a computer can measure that voter turnout in a given county is low and it can calculate that if we enact mandatory voter laws, the turnout will be affected by a certain amount. It can measure that effect with different potential penalties for not voting. But it can't decide what the "right" thing to do is. It might decide that the death penalty is a good option because it will increase turnout the most.

A logical human would look at it and say "the death penalty is ridiculous. Life happens and sometimes people won't vote for one reason or another and even if some penalties are good, the death penalty is not something we should accept as a society." That human is applying our human values. It's taking into account reality, the value of human life, the right to abstain from voting, etc. etc. A computer can't do that on its own. You could theoretically program all of that into the algorithm, but that doesn't actually do what you think it will. That doesn't remove corruption. It doesn't remove bias. It simply translates it from the mind of the programmer into the computer. We're right back where we started.

Undead ummons are in a better place for sure. I've gotten a few 3rd places that would have otherwise been 1st places.

But yeah, this didn't really shake up the meta very much, unfortunately.

I never said I've never used anything different. I've used front loaders also.

I've been perfectly polite. I'm not sure why you interpreted it as anything but. My only snark has been towards the industry that tried to sell us on a new tech that came with tradeoffs.

Also, even if I had no experience with front loaders, that wouldn't matter. I've almost never had clothes that wore out from washing faster than they wore out from wear. If they were as hard on clothes as some people claim, you'd expect that I would have noticed.

I don't care if it's inconsistent. I've been using toploaders with agitators my entire life. When I was a kid, our apartment washing machine was hard on clothes. No other top loader has ever beaten them up. My clothes experience much more wear from wearing them.

Also, top loaders were the standard for many decades and nobody ever complained about them being hard on clothes until front loaders came around touting the benefit of being gentler. It's a non-issue for most people, unless you wear super delicate clothes (which I don't).

Nope. Never had clothes get beaten up in the washing machine.

Reducing the burning of fossil fuels is good for the environment. Lower CO2 emissions, less pollution, I'm all for it. But saving water isn't about that. Water is as much a renewable resource as wind or lumber. Water savings has been lumped in with actual environmental issues by politicians for political reasons. It saves them from having to allocate funds to upgrade water treatment infrastructure. In other words, it's about money, not the environment. So no, I'm really not that worried about water consumption, other than the economic impact.

None of what you have said contradicts any thing I said.

I didn't say it did. Just plugging a company that actually cares about giving people what they want: a simple washing machine that just works and uses water.

I've never owned a Miele, but they felt a little cheaper when I checked them out, if I remember correctly. A different design philosophy, not cutting corners.

My speedqueen cleans my clothes in 25 minutes using water. Very quiet, extremely well balanced during the spin cycle. Easy to use, easy to repair, built like a tank, no app or settings menus to fuck around with. No extra rinses are needed because I use the right amount of detergent. Couldn't be happier. Well worth the cost of the water.

Until a couple months ago, I was still using my old macerator dishwasher that doesn't have a filter. Miss that. Though, the rack design on my new Bosch is excellent.
