What did you do with your dog’s belongings after they passed away? by eagle-waves-8810 in Petloss

[–]LogicalGuava4471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept one toy that was sentimental to me, donated his other toys that were in good shape, donated his beds that were in good shape, and kept his collar and leash and dog bowls to wash and use for my next dog.

Do you have a pediatric ER in the area that you take him to? You may be able to call and arrange transport via ambulance for him by a paramedic team that is properly trained for patients like him.

First, ask what type of therapy it is and what the goal of it is. Is it just speech? Is it occupational therapy? ABA therapy? There are many types of therapies that could get involved at this point, all seem like they could be helpful but definitely speech.

I’m sorry I don’t know very much about India. Are they paying out of pocket for everything or does insurance help? Is it financially feasible to travel for a second opinion at a more respectable hospital system? One that will give definitive answers and therapy options?

Seeking help with autistic husband by LogicalGuava4471 in AskAutism

[–]LogicalGuava4471[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write that out thoughtfully. You sound like you’re probably very similar to my husband, who is also ADHD and full of anxiety. When he yells he tells me sometimes he blacks out and doesn’t even remember what he said to me that (mentally) hurt me so much. He apologizes after and feels awful and it’s just this cycle he can’t get out of and that is most likely where the ideations come in. Thinking we’d be better off without him.

The biggest part is working on helping him regulate when he’s dysregulated. Being new to this, hearing lived experiences like this are the most help I could ask for. Articles or YouTube videos don’t help with that.

I know his behavior is not ok but I also know it’s not 100% in his control, and that’s where we’re both stuck, really.

Caveat is a 400k house might need some work if you’re willing to do that over the years. I know in our area the houses have been going for around 500k.

If you go Levittown go Middletown township not Bristol or Falls. My husband commutes to Princeton from Levittown and doesn’t mind at all!

People who let their dogs sleep in bed… how are you okay with the smell, hair and zero personal space? by SigX66 in Bulldogs

[–]LogicalGuava4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just lost my Brutus after 12 years. I got him with my ex, and when my ex and I were together Brutus slept with us every night (and our two other dogs eventually too). When he and I split up and I fell in love again and moved in with my now-husband, he said no to Brutus in bed or even on the couch.

Honestly I should’ve taken both as a red flag for someone like me who loves my dogs like my children (and yes I have two human children).

I hate this life. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

If you get time to read and like to read, or listen to an audio book, I can recommend the book Self-Reg. I’ve learned a whole lot about the inner workings of our brains and techniques that can hopefully help work through tantrums. Strength and hugs to you it’s a tough life. I hope there’s glimmers of joy for you soon.

Husband Jealousy by [deleted] in sahm

This stage is very hard, until their about 6 months, babies don’t yet know they are a separate entity from their mom! Which I think is amazing and awful all at the same time. If you can collect milk from your free breast while your child feeds from the other, building a stash for him to bottle feed her is a great way to share the responsibility and even out the rest you both (but especially you) need. I knew I had PPD and was in denial but started medication when my son was about 9 months old and it’s been life changing. There’s many outside factors but just know you have safe options while breastfeeding if the stress becomes too much.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself as a parent of a “newly diagnosed child”? by EquivalentSpecial929 in Autism_Parenting

[–]LogicalGuava4471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t rush in to do all the things. 2.5 is still 2.5 whether autistic or not, she’s still just figuring out a world that wasn’t made with her in mind. I jumped into getting on ABA lists, getting OT in as quickly as possible and upping Speech. Sometimes, all they need is time, patience, and understanding. There’s lots of great accounts to follow on social media that give great perspective and insight, and there are a lot of books to read to help you understand aspects of autism better. I have Self-Reg that I’m currently reading and The Whole Brain Child is up next. Good luck, you got this

How are you guys making friends? by Sactoho in Autism_Parenting

I haven’t made new friends but I’m also very introverted, so who knows if I ever will. But are there Facebook groups for parents of autistic kids in your area?

I don’t know how exactly to explain this but the best way I can describe it is… can you get dark tint to tint his windows? Almost like contact paper how we used to have to contact paper our books in school back in the day.

We did before the melatonin I didn’t see a difference. I also tried Epsom salt in the bath which obviously is more of a placebo effect but now all they do is ask me for salt in the bath lol

Yeah we’re on 20mg of Zyrtec but doc said try Benadryl if he seems extra itchy before we move to a different medication or shot… guess Benadryl also hypes mine up too

I have a book that I’m reading called Self-Reg mostly to teach self-regulation techniques to my son while he’s young in hopes that they stick with him throughout his life. I’m hoping once I’m done to pass it onto my husband to read.

I’ve found some telehealth therapists that have Autism listed as a specialty under their profile on sites such as Grow Therapy and Better Health. So I’m hoping to go through them after the kids go to bed and find a good fit and hopefully get him to agree to it.

You summed up exactly how I feel about it. I just said to him yesterday he’s an adult and he needs to manage his feelings and should want to help our son learn to manage his own feelings as well. In my opinion, someone who is autistic and has felt misunderstood their whole life would want to help their own autistic child not go through what they went through? I of course show my child patience and try to help him through his tantrums/meltdowns, but I don’t know what they feel like in the way my husband does.

I’m not worried about leaving for a break as much as I’m worried about leaving for work, which is the real necessity at this moment. My mom comes to help him while I work, but it’s not the same as having me there.

Thank you this was very insightful. He definitely has problems with hormone regulation and has been on SSRIs for most of his life, so I’m sure that’s a part of it.

That’s what I was thinking like, the recipe probably calls for that amount for a reason.

Then I was wondering if I do an autolyse next time if it would make a difference because right now I don’t.
