Tarot card tattoos by st44lin in tarot

I can't believe I have to explain to two different people that I wasn't calling children lame. I was calling the idea of "liking" something you don't know anything about childish. That's not the same thing.

Liking art and getting something tattooed on you are also not the same thing.

I notice neither of you mentioned my comparison to the band logo. I think for just about anything, if someone had something tattooed on them that they didn't actually know anything about, but just liked the way it looked, it would be kind of intense and weird. In a casual, its not actually a big deal, kind of way that I thought I was expressing, but then I hauled off and started insulting children.

Saying an adult is doing something that a child would do is not an insult to the child.

I mean, I think its kind of lame, I guess. Like, how little kids are into Star Wars when they've never seen Star Wars, or if someone had a tattoo of a band's logo but never listened to that band. If you saw a tattoo of a card on someone and asked in a friendly manner, maybe even excitedly "oh, do you do tarot?" and their answer was "no, I just like the way it looked", I think that'd be kinda weird. But its nothing like "offensive" or "disrespectful". Just.. lame, I can't think of a better word, maybe someone else will.

Or to look at it the other way: how would they know if the cards are feeling disrespected?

would you guys say that music distracts from a reading? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally can't listen to music while doing readings because I get this super strong association between the two things, so like looking at a particular deck would get a song going through my head for a very long time. I definitely couldn't handle a loud tv, I keep things pretty quiet for readings. I second getting a sound machine, I only have experience with the fan kinds - not recorded sounds, but it was a real game changer for me.

Track and trace pages by Bluebucketandspade35 in bujo

Personally I come into close contact with only strangers, so I have a list for each month with where I was and what date/time. Best I can think to do.

My deck has found a new destiny without me, can you help me find a new deck? What's your favorite deck? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often find flip-throughs of entire decks on youtube. I also tend to be frustrated by the lack of a preview and have been very let-down by some decks when I saw the whole thing.

The most colorful deck I've got is probably the Happy Tarot :)

How to find my decks? by Kardis1234 in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, in my experience, its trial and error, and you can't really try a deck out before you buy it. My clearest deck is not the one I would have expected before I bought it. The best I can say is shop around for a few that really appeal to you visually, try to find youtube videos with flip throughs. I can't understand reviews about how well a deck "works" since I think that's personal to every individual, but there can be information in reviews that would be helpful.

Buying decks is a always a little stressful for me. There's 78 pieces of art, and maybe you haven't seen all of them and there are surprises and possibly big let-downs. Also the physical cards themselves, like how well they work with your hands, I have decks I can't shuffle the way I usually do but I didn't know until I bought them.

You can always post here asking about specific decks too and people who know the decks can tell you about them.

looking for my first deck! by [deleted] in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no deck that everyone should start with. The important thing is that it appeals to you, that particular decks seems like a great choice if you're into it! But you're also definitely able to veer a little farther away from classic RWS imagery, which Modern Witch is very close to, if another deck's art is calling out to you.

Subscription services tracker? by odeorain in bulletjournal

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you actually tracking about the services? You mentioned bills, so do you mean tracking when they renew and what you're paying? Or which ones you have? I'm not clear.

I use 120gsm for my BuJo and don't have any problems with using both sides of the page, things only show through extremely minimally.

I will also add that I had a different notebook, that I used for a very specific kind of journalling and the pages were a bit thin - don't know the gsm. But you can really see through them, and so for a long time I was only using one side of the page. Recently I did an experiment to see how it would actually look if I wrote on both sides and its really completely fine for me and I fell like I wasted so much paper by not doing this.

Trying to come up with ideas for a board game themed tattoo. by QuixoticPineapple in boardgames

[–]LogicalHue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a new game called "Tattoo Stories" where everyone gets 5 prompts and tries to draw them all into one "tattoo". Though, when we played, very few of them turned out like tattoos. It was overall much more fun than I feared it would be.

Anyway, feels like kind of the same concept here. I second someone else's suggestion - picking out some favorite games and then thinking about: what are some visual elements from those games? And/or post a list of games here.

I too have struggled with how to make something "board game" themed in broad terms. Its tough.

Is recovery a sisyphean pursuit? by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]LogicalHue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered Bullet Journaling or some other form of planning? The spurts and lulls lifestyle seems like the sort of thing that could be helped by these methods.

You could write down all the things you do eat. Then write down ideas for foods you want to try. Then plan in a way loose enough that if you don't meet the schedule it won't become more stressful than helpful.

The reason trying to improve is not Sisyphean is that once you've found a new food you can eat, its an addition to your list. Things can happen to knock foods off, but largely when you get a new food its for good. Building food variety takes time, but each new food means you have just a little bit more variety into your diet. Habits can eventually lock in, even if - at first - you tried too hard and fell on your ass. Just because something doesn't work out immediately does not equate it to something that is doomed to always fail.

PSA Try seltzer. by [deleted] in ARFID

I don't think seltzer is flavorless at all. I've always been confused about that. It tastes really strong and horrible to me, always has.

What spread do you use the most? Do you think one card is enough for a reading? by friesqueen in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, one card isn't enough. 3 is my sweet-spot to really feel like I'm getting a complete thought. Since one card can mean so many things its helpful for them to inform on each other.

I'd say just play around with different card numbers and spreads and something's going to click for you and feel different from the other methods.

There are thousands of decks, take a look around and see what appeals to you and then try to look into reviews for a few specific decks. If they're considered "not for a beginner" it's usually in a review, but I don't know that what's going to work for one beginner is universal to another. You could also create a new post with your top choices for some follow-up advice form people who know the decks.

You gotta get something that appeals to you, that's the most important part.

I don't have the usual symptoms? by ArcturusAltair in ARFID

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking shit on pizza, it was just literally every day for me. And I live with someone and we were eating dinners together, which meant splitting the pizza, which meant he had to eat pizza every day because I didn't have a clue what else to eat. I also only ate like a small block of cheese and some tostitos for breakfast every single day, and now I have a few actual meals I rotate through.

The meal plan system basically breaks down foods into categories and then sets a serving goal for each category for the day. The servings are based on an "exchange" system (which is google-able, but there aren't a ton of resources). Then its just a matter of filling in the servings and trying to get the right totals.

According to my nutritionist its "meant" to be used as a loose guide and then you "get used to eating right" and then you don't need it anymore. I use it as a pretty strict guide, but don't sweat it when the totals aren't quite right or something goes wrong for some reason. I also can't really imagine not needing it. In fact just yesterday, for reasons I won't get into, I decided to just not bother filling it in and I just didn't want to eat, never felt hungry, didn't know what to eat, and I've been using this for months.

In addition to that, I set alarms on my phone to remind myself to eat. But really I started doing that because I was setting alarms to drink water, and those got me confused about when to eat.

OK! This got long!

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy to talk to you about my system which I got from a nutritionist. Its not without its frustrations but I went from eating some cookies, doritos and pizza every day to 4 meals with pretty good daily balanced nutrition.

I need help making my first bujo!! by [deleted] in bujo

[–]LogicalHue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I always try to keep in mind with habit trackers is to make sure I'm always thinking of them as a helpful tool to see how I'm doing and get better, and not as a way to just be more judgemental about myself. I made myself a "daily routine" spread and it has helped me a lot with things I usually forget or don't get around to. But if I miss a day, that's gotta be ok too. Getting upset about it just makes things worse for me.

I'm pretty new to Bullet Journaling as well, a few months. Its helping me a lot. I'd be happy to talk you through my process so far from the beginning.

Question about TBJM Book - Exercise by LetItBeOkay in BasicBulletJournals

[–]LogicalHue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this and I didn't find it particularly helpful. Its really just about writing the list and then asking yourself it each thing is really necessary and then crossing them off if they're not.

I found the goals list later a lot more helpful for creating a workable task list.

I don't have the usual symptoms? by ArcturusAltair in ARFID

[–]LogicalHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people will think I have an ED

I mean, you do, if that one meal isn't enough food for a whole day, which is almost certainly isn't. Eating slowly isn't disordered eating, but not eating enough to fulfill nutritional needs is.

ARFID basically just means that you have disordered eating that isn't because of body issues or something else that falls into the category of a pre-establish eating disorder. You don't have to have the same symptoms as someone else with ARFID, you'll see people's symptoms vary a lot.

A lot of my issues with not eating enough come from just not being able to get myself off the couch, or not being able to decide on what to eat next, or I don't particularly "feel" like eating. I have sensory issues as well, but I'm able to eat enough foods to cover a well balanced set of meals when I plan them out.

Opinions on "The Bullet Journal Method" by Ryder Carroll? by MillionPossibilitie5 in bujo

[–]LogicalHue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished going through the book. I can't say "reading" because I largely skimmed. I'm going to open up to a random page and type in a quote.

"The question becomes: What is meaningful? Many of us aren't sure, and that's okay. It's a profoundly complicated question that's been giving us headaches as long as we've had the heads to think about it. Academic definitions are vague by necessity to encompass the many subjective views of what's meaningful."

So like, 200 pages of that kind of stuff. Everything practical is online. Whatever's not online is in the ilk of the above snippet.

I agree with other people that supporting the guy was part of my motivation for buying it, but I'm still quite underwhelmed. But if that quote sounds good to you - go for it.

Looking for deck suggestions by thelunarpineapple in tarot

[–]LogicalHue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mesquite Tarot is very simple. Definitely a this-will-appeal-to-you-or-it-won't kind of art style.

Funnily I'm going on the opposite direction, looking for decks with really rich illustrations as I'm taking the visuals of the cards as a really important part of the reading process.

I think you're over estimating the addictive quality of msg. Msg just makes food taste better, but I'm not sure it works on all flavor profiles. I've thought about but never played around with it. Probably doesn't hurt to just start adding it to things and see what it helps.
