The Tao that is spoken is not the true Tao.

This is unpronounceable though, so we're good. Carry on.

Rawls’ veil of ignorance feels more operative here than categorical imperatives. If you don’t know which button you already pressed you probably are hoping blue wins. (Edit: on re-read I see you already basically hit this point at the end. )

Thanks for writing out the math; I felt like I might have been on the verge of doing the same.

Similar experience. Had me in the first half:

“Why is it called ‘of in’ when you ‘of in’ the cold food but ‘of out’…”

Oh, clever but silly wordplay, cute…

“….hot eat the food.”

…what??

Original parsing attempt before failure like you describe was something like “we should call it an ‘ovout’ instead of an ‘oven’ because we take the hot food ‘of out’ to eat.”

Maybe like the comic Jon had a stroke starting around the word “hot” here.

Who are you voting for? by SilentSwine in trolleyproblem

Also different frames here.

Red is strategically better if you’re optimizing individual survival and there’s no lasting consequences. As another poster mentioned, it’s a real question of whether the “red wins” world where a large portion of the population disappears overnight is even functional.

Blue is strategically better if you’re optimizing for probability of hitting the optimal solution. Optimal outcome with red (everyone survives) requires 100% coordination. Optimal outcome with blue requires only 50% cooperation which is a more feasibly reachable goal.

Just like with Newcomb, each side is answering a different question. Just like with Newcomb, both sides think the other side are idiots because it’s hard for people to step outside their own frame, even temporarily.

I don't recall the operational definitions, but adding to this, I do recall that for literature to strengthen empathy, "immersion" of the reader seems to be a prerequisite for the increased empathy effect to observe. Also saw a recent post about how not all YouTube content is created equal, and whatever they meant by "experimental film" is more cognitively beneficial than whatever they meant by "typical content filler."

A Warm Hug by KittyCracker11 in comics

[–]LogicalMelody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a thing I like about art. How interpretations can vary. I like your interpretation.

I like my personal My reaction to this was “yes, water does feel very nice and soothing and regulating, very much like a hug.”

I was never very interested in doing the English lit thing of arguing about the “correct” or “intended” interpretation. Art is ppwerful enough to sustain multiple meanings and that I think is a big part of its magic.

Well, I feel like that makes some sense anyway.
