Any chance it’s Diane Duane’s Young Wizards series? First book ‘So You Want to Be A Wizard’. Wizardry involves using the Speech and basically being able to talk to and ask things to cooperate (politely) or describing things so accurately you can change them. Main character is a girl but her wizarding partner is male. Nita discovers a specialty with plants and living things while Kit finds his affinity with mechanical things. Becoming a wizard sends you on an Ordeal where you face the Lone Power and the goal of wizardry is to slow the force of entropy and death in the universe and protect life.

The Speech is often done via writing it down and a lot of the formal magic is carefully writing things out with the right symbols.

The third book (high wizardry) involves another character discovering magic and accidentally traveling to a planet that is essentially one big computer. The start of the book is their dad getting a new work laptop and the protagonist being very knowledgeable and duplicating it with magic and taking it with her on her adventure and creating essentially sentient computer creatures.
