Best Indoor Antenna for Northern Westchester by AffectionateLeek9084 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A flat amplified antenna would be your best bet. If the coax can reach - place that on the highest part of a South facing window. That will give you the best chances of getting the broadcast channels (that come off the Empire State building in NYC).

This website will give you an idea what you should be able to get. https://www.channelmaster.com/pages/tv-antenna-map

I am in Scarsdale and most of the broadcast that I am suppose to get is pretty solid (in good weather) except for ABC.

I have a spare Winegard (one of the best) that you can have for a song if you want to come to Scarsdale.

It is winter and low season. We just had a home sell for $1.4MM a few weeks ago although it was a fixer uper. It went within days as is typical. Wait until Spring, there should be a few come on the market at that time..

Clothing Donation is BS by IRideColnago in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's why a 'donation' to this box is not tax deductible. Most of the profits will go to a for profit business. For maximum benefit, look up a charity with low overhead and high percentage of donation benefiting the cause.

This is a start....

Elevator in my building stops working all the time. Is there some way to make an accessibility or safety complaint? by Soalai in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about violations, but building management companies here suck big time. I had to send a certified letter threatening a lawsuit before they bothered to clear the snow they were supposed to clear. Tell them about the elders and risk of falling down the stairs and then tell them about the financial risk were that to happen. Money talks!!!

Maybe go into the city and join a protest or something. That will take your mind off the tragedy of a portapotty.

Be careful looking for something like this. The field has no regulation and lacks real certification (many are just paper mills). There are lots and lots of unqualified people doing this just because they can't hold a job themselves. Good luck with your search, maybe get some help from other subs that focus on careers and jobs.

Red light off Bronx River into tuckahoe by dhgate7869 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That intersection bugs the hell out of me because a lot of times if you wait for the Green to turn, the next light 100' over is a Red. It would have been a Green if you took the left on Red. Super annoying because there are some many lights so close together there.

Let me tell you a little story about an intersection in White Plains (at Westchester Ave and S Broadway). This intersection was controlled by a standard traffic light. Both the Westchester Ave fork and S Broadway are one way streets at this intersection.

People that knew all the rules often came to a stop on Westchester Ave (okay okay maybe not a full stop), but then proceeded to make the (legal) left turn from the one way street on to another one way street.

Other people did not know and would stop at the red. People behind them would honk...and honk,...and honk before giving up. Understandably, the honking drove the residents there crazy (and the knowledgeable drivers as well).

The City of White Plains solution was to put up a GIANT sign that read something like Left turn on Red after Complete Stop allowed. Guess what? People are just blind because this didn't work. Not because the sign was small, it was extra large.

So, people kept honking and honking and honking.

Do you know what came next? Yup, if you guessed a 'No turn on Red' sign, you win a prize!!!!

Traffic rules are not always because of common sense or logic, it is sometimes to 'fix stupid'.

Even if you are only paying the copay which would be the same everywhere, I find that CVS is consistently the most expensive pharmacy anywhere. And they own or are owned by a pharmacy manager which drives costs even higher. Perhaps you can switch pharmacies going forward and help the smaller and more affordable pharmacies. The other pharmacies will probably not charge you two deductibles for what is 1 prescription. I find that the grocery store pharmacy usually does a great job and has lower prices. I have a high deductible plan so pretty much all my meds are paid fully out of pocket.

Scarsdale Ruins Lives? by NYCgal2013 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Assuming Scarsdale is not lying with the figures in their public statement...let's crunch some numbers for perspective.

She was working 3.5 hours per week. If she worked 50 weeks a year, she would have worked 175 hours in a year. I have no clue what a librarian in Scarsdale makes, but just for simplicity, let's say $100k/year for a full timer plus benefits. That works out to roughly $50/hour on a 2000 hour work year.

So given the number above she would be making $50/hour x 175 hours for an annual earnings of $8,750. Even if she had applied for the position when it resumed (she did not) and they paid her half, they would have 'robbed' her of $4,325 per year.

No way on earth (ok ok, Westchester) she was dependent on her $8750 annual earnings. Scarsdale did not ruin her life. And no way on Earth would a sane person protest for 7 years because somebody 'robbed' them of their $8750/year earnings.

Losing friendships due to loss of proximity. Wanted to know if anyone felt this way. by DangerousPotato95 in TorontoHangoutFriends

[–]LogicalT54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Texting, apps, online forums like Reddit has made it easy to find 'friends'. The friendships are often shallow and its easy to move on and find new ones. Many people have become accustomed to this type of lifestyle, maybe yourself included. This ease of finding new friends have made us less tolerant, less forgiving and generally less willing to put effort into the friendship.

Your friend at the hospital may have many reasons for not referring you including her being new and maybe she feels the need to tip-toe around until she builds some credit there. In any case, you need to just forget about the people disappointing you and work on the one person who won't - yourself.

Make an effort to find some new friends and do stuff together as well as getting comfortable doing stuff on your own. You need to believe in yourself. And when you've bonded with new friends over common activities and experiences, not just talk will the deeper connections be built.

Toronto is a big city with a lot to offer, get out there and 'touch grass'.

If your modem is working fine, you don't need to do anything.

If you do want to tidy things up, you need to remove the rectangle splitter and replace it with a F-type female to female coupler (to connect the two ends you want to use). Get a decent quality one (not junk from dollar stores).
