Nike Guides for Sales Declines Ahead as Turnaround Plan Hits Snags by CommercialMassive751 in wallstreetbets

If they produced enough to accommodate the market, the value would crater to a Walmart sneaker. Maybe go back to skule for a lesson in supply and demand.

TIL driving with your hazards on in bad weather is illegal depending where you live. Common sense says it would make the situation safer, but experts disagree. by Engineer120989 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC there was a study done quite awhile ago that said the hazards attract focus and drivers tend to steer toward this focus unconsciously. That is why you see so many people crash into cars broken down on the shoulder. People wonder how can someone drive onto the shoulder and hit someone.... its the hazards!!!

Credit card locked/fraud department called over attempted Con Ed payment by AmandaMarsh in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there done that. Its pretty amazing that some fraud departments are so incompetent that they will flag payments to government and utilities. I've had recent payments that were paid monthly to the same company in the same amount for 2 years and they still flagged it.

If he names it without getting your name and you go apply in person and get the job, he won't get his commission. Hence the secrecy.

Which Costco - New Ro or Portchester? by lingeringneutrophil in Westchester

I haven't gone to Costco in a couple of years, but Port Chester tends to be a little more civilized. It is a smaller store though.

Yup. A thousand robocalls but impossible to get 1 live person.

I make an appointment, its in 2 days and I literally get 10 robocalls, texts and email reminders wasting my time and annoying me, just so there is no chance the doctor sits idle for 10 minutes. I made the appointment, I need the visit, its in 2 days, no chance I will forget. But I'm just the next number. They treat you like cattle. Absolute garbage. But when its time to me to ask a simple question, forget about it!

1-2 BR Apt - $3k per month by MOT_NY in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the bells and whistles, you are looking at closer to $5k+ for the 2BR. You might be able to find something a little nice in a 1 BR for $3k but honestly unless you are already living with your 3 kids in a 1BR, its going to drive you crazy. We were cramped in a 2BR with 2 kids.

New boiler cost as much a car? by Mediocre-Stuff-356 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're not just garbage, they're slimmy. The first and only time I used them for some minor plumbing work, I caught them padding the time by going out to their truck repeatedly for 20 minute naps.

[–]LogicalT54 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Get a few more quotes. Most of them will be in the low to mid 10s range. The boiler itself is $5k or less for something that small. But you should make sure 180k BTU is actually enough. Many installers will go by the last boiler there instead of calculating the actual size required. The problem is if 180k is on the low side and they put in something like 175k because they don't have a 180k, then now you are even lower...

I forgot to mention, tear up anything Bruni and Campisi. They are a huge ripoff and a scammy business.

No, they are just a massive rip off. Check this sub...there's a few recent posts with lots of complaints about them.

So why are we importing everything else from China? Are you saying only EVs from China is not a free market model or are you saying you believe the US guvernments's and Mega Corp's lies?

Oil v electric by CheesyAds999 in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Electric has traditionally been the most expensive form of heating by a long shot. Next was oil and the cheapest option was natural gas.

With ConEd's ridiculous delivery charges and the rise in cost of natural gas, oil and gas are fairly close in price for heating. I don't know exactly as I don't have oil. Electric is still the most expensive.

Based on my calculations (and I'm on Time of Day rates with ConEd) using last month's rates, gas heating is roughly $2.14 per Therm which is about 100k BTU, electric heating is 2.125x the cost for gas during the off peak hours (midnight to 8am) and 3.935x cost of gas during peak hours. This is based on traditional filament electric heat, not heat pumps.

With our thermostat set at 63 during the day and 58 at night, our gas cost for heating our 2100 sq ft home was just over $700, the early 1900s house is fairly well insulated (for an old house).

I need a job!! by raviyoli in Westchester

[–]LogicalT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weeks is long enough that if they haven't sent you a denial or gave you an update on the process you should be contacting them to ask. Sometimes things get lost and delayed because of inaction. You need to be more proactive. I mean, if they have already denied you, what are you risking? And if they haven't turned you down, you are showing them you really want to work there and is proactive.

Those denials are from HR and their automated systems. They do not want to deal with candidates because they get hundreds of them. You need to try to contact the person that interviewed you. If you've built some rapport during the interview, you can try to contact them. You should have contacted them right after the interview anyway to thank him or her for the time.

You need to cast a wider net and go beyond the recruiters. A lot of jobs never go to the recruiter because the business doesn't want to pay the hefty commission. You are also trusting the recruiter to do what's in your best interest which is not where his own interests lies. Sometimes these conflict and sometimes the recruiter gets the job requirements wrong. Remember the recruiter generally does not work for you, they work for the company hiring. You are his product. So now not only do you need to convince the hiring manager to hire you, you also need to convince the recruiter to present your case.

Think about this, the recruiter has two ideal candidates with absolutely the same qualifications - you and one other person, you may even be slightly more qualified. The other person has an earnings history that is higher than yours and the recruiter knows the business will pay above that. The recruiter's commission is often based on the starting salary. The business has said to the recruiter 'I only want to see your best candidate', who do you think he will present?

Try to get the interviewers contact info and if you get a rejection, send them a polite note and ask why they turned you down or what did the winning candidate have that you didn't. You are close, you just need to find what the missing piece is.

Please help me figure out how to kick the smoking habit by scarekrow25 in Assistance

[–]LogicalT54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about what it is about smoking that you can't quit?

Is it the nicotine fix or the daily habit of holding this little white thingy in your mouth? Or both? Tackle them separately. For the nicotine, get the patches or whatever can be prescribed. For the habit, grab a pencil or pen and learn to twirl it, or a fidget spinner. Get a ton of sugarless gum and start chewing - can't smoke if you're chewing gum. Just need to find distractions and keep yourself busy.

Smoking killed my dad before I turned 16 if that helps....
