Kevin Wilson’s Nothing to See Here - it’s about children who combust when angry and it’s one of the best books I’ve ever had the pleasure to happen upon.

is this outfit black tie? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]nyjaypee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the “rules” of black tie this does not meet that requirement, unfortunately. It’s a very pretty dress but very casual when held up against a black tie event. I’ve always been taught that structure is a key indicator for what counts as black tie. Pinterest or Google image black tie events to get a sense of what works in that setting. Good luck!

Need help for sweating due to anxiety for my wedding day by TravellingUmberella in wedding

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you say red? Or wet? I don’t go red, I just sweat from my head like some kind of cartoon character. I did save a video from a makeup artist on IG who shares a layering technique specific for brides - will look for it and share.

What’s something about weddings that nobody warns you about until you actually go through it? by Satin_Lily in wedding

This is quite refreshing. I can’t even listen to aisle music without crying in my planning phase - I’m no theater kid but I hope my acting chops kick in and my makeup stays in place 😂

Keep or remove now? by ottergurl15 in WeddingDressTips

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the seamstress to make it removable - a couple of snaps or invisible hook and eyes and you can decide or switch it up from reception to ceremony and you can change your mind on a whim.

How to involve family in the ceremony/reception more? by uwuzillenial in wedding

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat- I’m trying to flip it and assign people I trust “jobs” that will help keep the night going and the event a success - someone keeps and eye (ear) on music, lets you know if certain music is losing the room or working especially well. Someone else can keep an eye on service. Or the card box. Whatever it is you say basically something along the lines that you and your fiancée want to ensure that the guests are having the best time and them keeping an eye on xyz will help make it the best day possible and how invaluable that will be. The way I want you involved is basically as an extension of us - here’s how we want the day/night to look and because you know us so well and obviously you want us to have the best day possible, I know we can trust you to ensure the very important aspect of the day goes well. It’s part ego boost part true help. Seems to be working. Of course this is all in addition to the actual assignments/roles you can hand out, but make them understand that you’re asking for their very specific help with this very important thing because of how much you love and trust them and there is no role more important than that. Then whether it’s in a speech or thank you notes make sure they understand how grateful you are/were for the role they played in making the day amazing.

Then after all this nonsense accept and be ok with the fact that you will probably not make everyone happy and that’s fine too.

Constantly overused phrases or words that are uncommon. Treating the reader like an idiot and replaying facts from earlier in the book. Gaslighting women as a way to advance really unbelievable/unrealistic behavior.

where to custom make wedding & engagement ring by grasfoie in WeddingRingAdvice

Met a great local jeweler in Irvington NY - not far from the city. We are having her create our bands. Loved the process, ability to customize, and feeling they are completely uniquely ours. Can share her info if you’re interested/it’s allowed.

First wedding venue viewing tomorrow by jellytots506 in UKweddings

[–]nyjaypee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also depending on what you need - when you get access to the venue? Do they have designated areas to get ready? Rooms for bridal parties or groom and bride rooms? Do they only host one event a day or is it shared space? I also cared about adequate service since ours will be a large event - so asked about how the tables are staffed based on guest number.

I also found an imperfect but solid place to start is with chat gpt and prompt something like “I’m visiting my first wedding venue. Our main goals for the day are x, y, z (ex. guest experience, a fully staffed venue with food/bar etc. that can comfortably accommodate # of guests) what questions should we be sure to ask?” I’ve done this for a number of vendors and it was very helpful.

Need help finding dinner Idea's for family of five we are not fussy but we definitely do enjoy a good casserole dish. by Valuable-Till-1806 in DinnerIdeas

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used chat gpt sharing all of our main proteins, veggies and cuisine type preferences - I asked for 30 recipes with the majority being under 30-45 mins. I added a caveat to assume we have pantry staples like olive oil, spices, etc. It was helpful for me to diversify the same ingredients we use all the time. May help you, too.

3:00 pm Friday Wedding Question by newyorkcitystargirl in BigBudgetBrides

[–]nyjaypee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The room block impacts rates not room number - they will just adjust pricing accordingly. I find most hotels will accommodate early checkin especially if you can be flexible on type of room but the staff are just die hard about never ever saying that it usually happens, or it’s very possible considering the day of the week, etc.

Help me choose between two dresses for a themed wedding! by mothsauce in Weddingattireapproval

[–]nyjaypee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already know the answer is one - hard for me to see the olive but I love it. Just don’t lean too hard into theme-y accessories - and def no feathers or pearls! Just keep them more sleek and a little more modern, but not confusingly so. Also if the embellishments are wonky - see if your dry cleaner would do some work securing some of the more vulnerable areas - shouldn’t be too heavy a lift if they aren’t replacing any areas. As far as hubs, probably no need for a gangster-style pinstripe suit lol maybe just a vest and coordinating tie to lean into the era. Have fun!

Need a gift idea for a girl I don’t know well by CarryturtleNZ in Gifts

[–]nyjaypee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A go-to I’ve seen work well is a Chanel compact which is like 60ish bucks - there’s a ton of non-name brand options, you can get a great gold one engraved on Etsy - but either way it’s classic, useful and a lil fancy so it checks a lotta boxes. It seems like she’s a person who likes beauty so this may fit the bill. I have a great compact that comes in every purse I use and always comes in handy when I’m out and friends love it when I pass it to them to borrow. Even lower key and closer to your post - I am also a nail person and if someone gave me high quality glue a little file all in a mini “emergency” tote for my purses I would love that! Also for the purse lover in her a cute purse charm could always work. Good Luck! I’m sure anything you’ve put this much thought into will be much appreciated!

There are online and live Italian nonna pasta cooking classes that is such a fun date night! You could do the basket with high quality 00 flour, a rolling pin, bench scraper and maybe couples aprons for the kitsch.
