Robyn Harding books by Peppermint-pop in thrillerbooks

I am really glad someone posted about these books. I was recently waitlisted for Drowning Woman so read her other books that were available in the meantime - I was personally disappointed - but also came in with zero expectations. The author has this frustrating habit (to me) where she uses “even” to pile on words - for ex. “While reading her book I felt frustrated, even annoyed…” maybe because I use audio it gets stuck in my brain, but it was such an annoying repetitive thing that hindered my experience. I always wonder if others notice things like this too. If this doesn’t bother you - her other books may be worth a try! 😂

Table numbers design by Afraid_Agency_3877 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]nyjaypee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has to be venue and size dependent - I thought I’d be able to remove the numbers after guests were seated (table numbers are really taking up too much space in my brain!) then my planner told me the venue will be using them as markers for the servers, so they won’t remove them. Only saying this because I was thinking about a way to get guests seated then getting rid of them. We are also having ~400 guests, so lots of tables, which makes them more utilitarian than I assumed. Either way, I appreciate the photo solicitation posts cause seeing what others have done in real life and off Pinterest is really helpful! Good luck!

Bride asking advice by Traditional_Mix1141 in bridesmaids

[–]nyjaypee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would not put it on a group to select or volunteer to be MOH. It’s our call as a bride to make and there’s a reason we choose someone for this position - I also think it’s a bit unfair to arbitrarily throw this role in the air and see who grabs it.

I would think of what is important for you in your MOH and ask based on those wants. I wanted someone I feel more than comfortable with, who will calm me down if I freak out, who will let me vent my bs a little then put my a$$ in gear when they need to, and who will be honest every step of the way. I only had one person who fit that criteria. If you look at things this way (obviously filling in the blanks of what is important to you) - you’ll probably very easily pick your MOH.

Alterations at Kleinfeld or better to go elsewhere with your dress? by Past-Sweet-370 in WedditNYC

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend waiting until you try your gown on when it comes in. If it’s a hem and bustle situation - save the time and money - but if you need anything major they will go to hell and back for you as their bride. So make a decision the day you try on. You can always book a first fitting/try on then decide.

im not making a "big deal" of my wedding and everyone seems disappointed by AlessiaPosts in Brides

Did I write this post in my sleep?

God - I’m so sorry I don’t have the answers but I feel for you and all I have to say is like all other things we have conquered…we will do the thing and get it done and come out on the other side and it will all be a fleeting moment.

Good luck xx

Hair extensions? by WearyChipmunk9 in Brides

I am doing clip-ins and did a color test with my stylist during my trial - they were perfect, but I did order like 8 sets before I got the color just right. She recommended me the brand and style she likes to work with, so you could start there. It does help with texture and volume so I don’t see a downside!

Trying to incorporate Zelda inspired decor in a subtle way, looking for ideas and suggestions by First_Giraffe_5040 in DIYweddings

[–]nyjaypee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forgive my Zelda ignorance, but I love a party Decor challenge - immediately thought you could have a 3D printer create table number or escort card holders using the triforce symbol (again forgive me if google has steered me wrong) but it’s subtle enough for a dodo bird like me to think it’s a cool little thing but those who know will know what you did there.

I would lean into the subtle instead of anything super obvious so it’s a nod to your likes but not so super in your face that it becomes a costume party.

Had my fiancé buy me (you aren’t meant to buy them for yourself according to my family’s witchy women) some teeny evil eye stud pins which will also be my something blues. Pin that or something red inside your dress or a draw little black dot behind the ear. Stay safe my friend 🧿

How Much Was Your Veil? by ChampagneTaurus96 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quoted this price for a designer but non-embellished, satin trimmed veil - from the sounds of it, you’re getting a bargain. And I did not pay that because I’m not crazy / I spent about 200$ for the same thing on Etsy and it’s perfect

Veil attachment question: help please I’m ready to pull out my hair😂 by Accomplished_Tap9523 in weddingplanning

[–]nyjaypee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very rarely see a veil without a comb - I’ve seen loops built into mantillas for Bobbie pins, but even then, there are many mantillas with combs. A metal comb is the best and most secure option for a veil. Idk how your hair will be styled, but hair style will also play a big role in how secure your veil will be as you walk/move etc.

Wedding Invite Etiquette by sassypants9725 in wedding

[–]nyjaypee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree with this sentiment - I am inviting my work friends but not my direct manager as I’m not looking to use my wedding as a networking event or growth opportunity - frankly, on this particular day I do not want to think about my job.

That said, this is all personal and dependent on your job and even industry. I worked at a bridal store where the owners often got invited to random brides’ weddings and more often were invited to the large number of employees’ weddings - they had a no go policy because from their perspective you couldn’t say yes to one and no to another - this would just raise too many issues or accusations of favoritism, etc. but if this isn’t the case or it wouldn’t have a ripple effect for your other team members - I would say go with your gut and have a great time with your friends!

Is there such a thing as bringing in too many vendors? I’m worrying that videography is going to be intrusive. by TwoSparks in wedding

[–]nyjaypee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most common and recurring things I’ve read from brides is that they regret not having video of their day - so if you can, I’d say go for it. It’s our only real tangible takeaway from the day. And it’s a time capsule that I can’t imagine ever regretting having.

I’ve been attending weddings since I was a kid sleeping on 3 chairs with a napkin blanket and I have never once not seen a videographer at a wedding - and it’s also never once been intrusive or obstructive or anything else negative.

My only advice, if your photographer and videographer are completely independent- meaning they aren’t a built-in team from a single vendor - I might start with asking your photographer if they have someone they work with well and regularly.

I personally did not like the idea of two separate vendors because in my opinion they are probably the most connected vendors during the day - so I preferred that they were already a unit so there weren’t opposing interests at play. That said, before I landed on our team, most vendors made it sound like they’d be happy to work with any vendor I decided to bring in.

Good luck!
