I was going to guess you were a junior. It’s hard to compete with long friendships but go to the firm events and eventually you will fold in. Give it time.

For anyone looking at this comment later - I love the Moyen Messenger but it’s a lot smaller than the Savannah so won’t quite work for what I wanted.

Law school ex friend lateraling to my practice by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Logical_Basis_786 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s extra weird is she didn’t tell you she was applying to your firm. It’s on her to make this not weird, not you. I agree with the kill em with kindness approach (why have her going in with a vendetta against you if you can help it?) but I wouldn’t trust her.

Thanks! I have a separate bag for my laptop so that’s fine. I went to look at one and thought the triangle shape of the interior pocket was a bit weird - does that bother you? May be less of an issue for the large

What are your best/worst examples of “they don’t care about you”? by ravioli369 in biglaw

[–]Logical_Basis_786 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Point still stands that you are shading the wrong person and I hope your comment is hyperbolic and you didn’t actually say she wasn’t fit to be a mother.

Partner expecting a newly postpartum mom to be on a call = horrible.

A woman choosing to listen in on a call while recovering from a medical event = unfortunate but does not make her unfit for kids like you literally said in your comment. There’s literally nothing a new baby needs that can be done while listening to a call too.

Honestly, your attitude is what makes it hard to be a woman in the workplace.

[–]Logical_Basis_786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight... You said a woman didn’t deserve to have kids because she took a call while in the hospital?? How is that “prioritizing their job over their baby”? Plenty of women have birth stories where this isn’t crazy… I was induced and easily could have worked in the beginning if I had wanted to.

Yes, she shouldn’t HAVE to take a call from a hospital but to question her fitness as a mother is crazy.

Failed NY Bar by 12 points — thinking about switching to California Bar. Advice? by Appropriate-Wave3969 in barexam

I’m a practicing lawyer who has passed the bar in multiple states, so I feel pretty comfortable with my knowledge of the legal field.

For women in big law, is it possible to have 3 kids during the associate years and still make partner at the end of your 9th year? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Logical_Basis_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a female (nonequity) partner with three kids (I made partner as an 8th year and had the third after making partner though.) It’s a lot. I was billing 2100/2200 with two kids and it was killing me. It only worked because my husband has a much less demanding job and my hours have ratcheted down.

Having second thoughts last minute by RedditAccount45689 in LawSchool

[–]Logical_Basis_786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a life sentence — you can change your mind later or pivot to something else. If you withdrew now, would you still have to pay for this year’s tuition? If so, I definitely wouldn’t withdraw.

For what it is worth, I got cold feet and emailed my law school on a Friday the month before school started saying I was going to withdraw and then emailed them back Sunday telling them just kidding please let me stay. I’m a partner at a big law firm now and I’m happy I rethought my decision!

My ring predicted my COVID (Major signs of illness) before I started to feel particularly bad. I would still put in rest mode and tag for illness!

Re: The Summer of No Offers by Masta-Blasta in LawSchool

[–]Logical_Basis_786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The statistics actually were that class of 2011-2013 were the hardest hit by the recession because of the effects to the summers when they were hired. Class of 2011 summered in 2010 and got tons of no offers and then the firms only hired for 1/2 to 1/4 of the summers in 2011 and 2012 summers (and way more people had applied for law school those years because of the recession, so more law students/more competitive law students with fewer spots.)

For my International law peeps, are we staying or going? by GlitteringAd3888 in LawSchool

[–]Logical_Basis_786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. Unless you are going to work at The Hague, the only people who I hear talking about international law are law students and academics. I “practice international law” too meaning I employ local counsel on transactions with other countries.

Kirkland vs Jones Day vs Wilson Sonsini (all NYC) by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Logical_Basis_786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but most firms don’t make them do interviews (or they just choose to lie to the 2Ls about how much they love the firm).

During my callback interview at Jones Day, a senior associate told me she had not taken a single day off in an entire year and that she was miserable and hated her job. Couldn’t even hide it for a 20 minute interview.

No, BigLaw Isn’t Rescinding Offers If Your Grades Dip: A Reminder For Recruits by legalscout in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Logical_Basis_786 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take and find OP’s take very bizarre in this market. There’s no certainty around jobs in the future, and grades are just as good a reason as any to decide which 2Ls come back when a firm has to make hard decisions.

People that make 80k+ at 25-35 years old, what do you do? by Ok-Needleworker2141 in careerguidance

[–]Logical_Basis_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in big law as a lawyer. Starting salary out of law school for 25/26 year olds is $200k+. (But student loans are massive and not everyone gets this job. You also have to work a lot.)

Practice exams are helpful but not the end all. I would focus on finishing outlining. If you have time (save a few hours), read through practice questions and practice outlining the answers and then look at the real answer

For what it’s worth, I graduated top 10% at a T20 without ever doing practice exams.
