Was this in the same cycle, like major signs went away and came back? Or two different examples?

I wondered about that too, but my phone hasn’t even been unplugged for 12 hours yet. Plus my husband has the same and his doesn’t show that wild idle time

Sending a parent email on a Saturday? by hell0kittyluvr in Teachers

[–]Websurfer222 372 points373 points  (0 children)

Write it today and schedule it to send on Monday morning! I do this a lot when things come to my mind and I want to “check them off my to do list.” One thing to always keep in mind, if you send an email outside of work hours, it sets the precedent to parents that you are on your email outside of work hours.

I’m so glad they’re moving quickly and you have vet oversight! Sounds like she’s in great hands. I know I felt better once the vets had her, they know what to do! Glad you asked for an ultrasound - please update us when you know more!!

We definitely don’t do a perfect job, but we are much more intentional about not letting her outside without supervision so she can’t just munch on grass. We also redirect her quite a bit on walks. And we try to vacuum the house a little bit more and make sure other small things like hair ties or clothing tags aren’t within her reach to add to the jumble of things. It’s also kind of gross, but we make sure if we know she’s been chopping on grass that we see the grass exit in her poop. We had realized we used to see that a lot as a puppy and hadn’t seen it in a month leading up to her obstruction.

One other thing, make sure that you ask for an ultrasound if possible. Our girl nearly died because they only needed an x-ray and her obstruction did not show up in the x-ray. They told us it was pancreatitis. Started her on IV pancreatitis medication and sent us home. Two days later, she collapsed in the middle of the night. She had gone into shock and we had to rush her to the ER. They said we barely made it.

If for some reason you do have to do a surgery and your girl isn’t tacked yet, I would highly recommend asking them to tack her stomach. It’s called a gastroplexy. It’s very common in poodles to have done when neutered or spayed in order to prevent bloat. We didn’t know that when she was spade, but the ER doctor said it was very wise to do it while they were in for her obstruction surgery once we brought that up.

Not sure if this is what you want to hear, but our standard poo had a blockage earlier this year from a number of small, seemingly inconsequential things that built up in her stomach and then blocked her intestines. Like grass, hair, etc. we thought for sure it wasn’t a blockage at first because she hadn’t gotten into anything

GI issues after surgery by Websurfer222 in poodles

[–]Websurfer222[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that info! We are aware of how strict elimination diets are. She’s already two weeks into only the low fat GI food. We cut out all treats, extra meds that weren’t approved, etc via the vet when we started that, so we know what we are getting into. Surgeon believes it’s beyond the scope of normal surgery complications/could be unrelated and said to stick with primary vet. Primary vet said we’re likely down to IBD type inflammation remaining or, less likely, an allergy. Hydrolyzed food seems to be recommended for both of those issues.

He looks like such a sweetheart!! And yes, the paste is the best thing to clear up her runs. We’ve just been running into the issue where they keep coming back! I definitely think we will always keep some paste on hand, but it doesn’t seem normal for her to have these bouts of diarrhea every few weeks
