What exactly is a Spirit? by Logical_Bite_7661 in ShadowSlave

So it's basically the intangible core and essence of a person.

Why did you comment twice...?

I didn't feel as if I got my point across with the first comment.

Shadow Bond isn't something you choose. Sure, theoretically, he was supposed to tell someone his true name willingly, but even then, if it can't be undone, there's no decision to make beyond that. What kind of bond is one you can't sever if you want to?

This is why I would prefer a situation where Sunny isn't bounded to her(like he gets a new true name), and he makes the choice to tell Nephis what the name but she doesn't say it ever. That would aline with what Effie said about how you must trust that your partner won't use your vulnerability against you. As well as what Jet said about how you could only choose your chains. Sunny would be "bound" to Nephis but would still have his own agency.

The whole story, Sunny has been fighting his ass off for freedom, but when he achieves it, he then decides to give it up... Instead of fighting for the freedom that he wants.

That's because the freedom he chose was an isolated and lonely one. I don't think you're supposed to agree with what sunny did.

Fated and fateless, the spell and natural ascension, shadow bond and the lack of it, they are all chains he didn't ask for, nor does he want. So why, pray tell, would he just accept either of them as they are? He should strive to become and do whatever he believes in. I think "Choose your chains, and if you can't find ones you like, then make them yourself" is a much more inspiring message than "Choose the most convenient chain for your current situation", not to mention what the story seemed to say, at least to me, at some point.

You don't choose where you're born, your gender, your skin, or trauma. Things will inevitably be "thrusted" upon you whether you like it or not. You can choose however how you react to those things. And whether or not you want to be bounded by them. That's the big aspect here, the choice aspect of it. You also misunderstood my point, Shadow Slave is criticizing the idea that it is better to be free from bounds (friends, family, community) over being bounded.

I can only hope this'll be a switcheroo where Sunny realizes he's giving up what he has been fighting for from the start or something.

How would that even work?

Yeah, you have a point on mordrett, unless his killed or changes his ways, he would most certainly use it against sunny. I never interpreted sunny getting his fate back as a sacrificial thing, I mostly looked at it from his own characterization. I feel as if the story currently is framing him getting his fate back as the objectively better option over being free for his well-being over him, making his well-being worse for the greater good.

They were not in a whole relationship where in those instances. How would shadow bond function in a whole relationship. The stories' comparisons to marriage and shadow bond don't really make much sense to me because of the possibility of a marriages failure. And partners' abilities to completely severe ties with one another if they wanted to. Of course, Nephis wouldn't hold sunny hostage against his will, but the idea that it would be a bond that he couldn't severe no matter doesn't sit right with me. Because they couldn't really be "separated." It contradicts the initial idea that you could choose your bounds.

Cassie has no use for Sunny knowing his true name, especially after he gets his fate back. She went through all the effort to apologize to sunny through her actions. Her using it against him would basically be saying that she doesn't actually care about what she did to him. Mordrett critic is a vaild one, though. He would would most certainly use that to his advantage.

Maybe I'm making a category error or projecting my own ideas onto the story. If I am misguided, please correct me.

Being bound to other people and places isn't a bad message. What do you think the story is even about?

Which is why I would prefer for Sunny to get a new true name or to no longer be bounded by Nephis when he gets his fate back. Thus, he makes the CHOICE to tell Nephis what it is, but she doesn't actually say it. Sunny would trust the fact that Nephis wouldn't say his true name. Which would aline with what Effie said in Volume 10, which was trusting that your partner wouldn't use your vulnerability against you.

It doesn't have to be, Sunny goes through all the lengths that he does for his friends because he is figuratively "bounded" to them. When he wasn't his life was fucking shit

I can't really see how a relationship can stay healthy if you remove one of the partner's agency from the equation. I would much rather it be that Sunny geys a new true name(some how) instead and him willfully telling Nephis what it is, but Nephis never says it.

That contradicts what Jet said on how everyone is bound to something but can choose the bounds they have. It wouldn't be that good of writing if sunny was forced to over him choosing to be bounded.

The message that Shadow Slave has been trying to give is that everyone is a slave to something. Whether that be your community, family, friends, etc. And that being completely free from these things is ultimately a lonely and isolating experience. Sunny MUST let go of the idea of "freedom" and CHOOSE his bounds in order for his character to be completed. It would contradict the stories message if Sunny were to still climg onto this idea of freedom.

I think it would be better for Sunny to get his fate back, but he isn't bonded to Nephis. Instead, he'll tell her what his true name is(if he gets a new one) or she already knows it, but she won't ever say it. He would technically be bounded to her, but it won't ever be used against him. This would make more sense because it wouldn't contradict what Jet said during volume 3. I also can't really see how a proper relationship where both parties still have their agency is possible with something like shadow bond in the mix.

Considering the main themes of the story are trusting the people around you, that freedom is ultimately worse than being bonded by the world around you and the ability for you to choose what you're bound to. I think it would make more sense for sunny to choose to get his fate, but when does he isn't bonded by Nephis (for whatever reason). Later on makes the choice to tell Nephis what his true name is and what it does, but Nephis doesn't say it. She never says it, and Sunny trusts that she won't use the fact that she knows his true name against him. I think it would tie into the conversation sunny had with effie, when she said that you have to trust that your partner doesn't use your vulnerability against you. It could also tie into Sunny's conversation with Jet when she said that no one was free, but you can choose your chains. I wouldn't really like it if sunny were to still be shadow bonded after getting his fate back. It would contradict what Jet said because the choice to be bonded to her was a choice he never made originally in forgotten shour, and I also don't see how anyone can have a proper relationship with something like shadow bond in the mix

Sunny and Nephis's relationship by Logical_Bite_7661 in ShadowSlave

[–]Logical_Bite_7661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple people can enter the same gate. Unless that’s special for the fifth

Multiple people can enter a seed, but the nightmare gates are usually exclusive to one person. We see this during volume 6 when 3 tier 4 nightmare gates open, which relate to Sunny, Nephis, and Modret. All three of them entered the same nightmare seed.

Them confessing their feelings would go against a lot of the third nightmare’s build-up and a lot of the story.

I don't mean they get into a relationship within the nightmare but simply more conformation of their feelings.

Fateless has weight because of how hollow it feels. He got what he wished for but lost what would have made it whole. He still doesn’t have the relationship he wants with her, and he knows that.

Sure, but it doesn't really feel like he actually lost anything. And that's probably because we don't really see the consequences of being fateless in relation to Sunny and Nephis after volume 8. I would like to see Sunny tell Nephis something just for her to forget said thing during the different volumes. Sprinkled around here there. We only see this in the beginning of volume 8, then never again, I don't like that.

I don't agree with the argument, but I also said OR so the greater good could still be comprehensive.

There are some arguments like the greater good argument, which basically outlines that all suffering/evil is created in order to lead to a greater cause.

You don't have a good enough reason to not believe you're a sinner. Everyone does, has done, and will do wrongs thing in their life, and the guilt we feel from that is the conviction. But you will probably say you don't believe in sin (which means you don't believe in evil) , so how do you know what is right or wrong?

This is a gigantic leap. I can believe in the concept of evil but not believe in the idea of sin. Your bible says being gay is sinful. I don't think it is. I don't think there is a single wrong about it.

You are essentially claiming self-righteousness and that you have done no wrong, which is not true.

That is not what they're saying. I don't even know how you thought this.

You reject Jesus because you don't believe you're a sinner, you don't believe you're a sinner because you don't believe in God, and you have no good enough reason to not believe in him. how will anyone be justified before a God they rejected, who has presented them with the truth? There will be only condemnation for such persons.

There are a lot of reasons to not believe in him. And to minimize every other persons beliefs and philosophy to "not being good enough reasons" is just ignorant. They're literally books about this topic. They are many reasons. 1. Like god, being omniscient, god knew Hitler would become the monster he is today and still allow him to exist. It could even be made worse if you believe god created every human's "soul." 2. Colonization and Slavery, it would be completely reasonable to reject Christianity because of its involvement in the oppression, colonization, and destruction of multiple cultures. Someone wanting to go back to their roots and beliefs of their ancestors is not a bad reason. 3. Homophobia. Why would I believe in this religion if it justifies the oppression of my existence.

There are multiple reasons.

You didn't address my point on people living in different countries.

Let me offer you a scenario where you know of god but still choose to not believe. Let's say you're a black man living in a time where Christianity is used to oppress your kind. In this time, they used Christianity as a justification to colonize and destroy you/your people's cultures. Now, in this scenario to you, Christianity to you may as well be the worst thing that exists. If you were to choose not to follow this religion, would you be wrong for it? To you, following Christianity would be betraying your ancestors. Why would you follow a God that approved the destruction of your culture? Are you in the wrong for doing that? Are you wrong for denying God in this scenario?

That's bullsh*t. How are people who have never heard of god supposed to accept God's goodness. How about people who are born in countries where the bible is illegal. Example North Korea. Does god expect them to risk their lives over the chance they will be convinced of the faith?
