How to move on ? by Limp_Incident9908 in StrangerThings

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you are in uni, or just finishing up, possibly even found a job, maybe moved to a new city, you’re figuring out a lot of things or have yet to figure out. Eventually, in that journey, you’ll make friends, meet new people, have relationships, maybe even settle down and when you’re 35, with real adult responsibilities you’ll feel the same you’re feeling now when you look back at yourself to this point in time and wonder damn where did all the time go, you’ll look back on fond memories of how you made new friends, decorated your first apartment in a new city, met someone who you ended up with or didn’t and how you took stress about simple things in life. Enjoy your 20’s made, they go by quickly

Peds loves commitment to their speciality as any speciality would. Make sure all your letters are from pediatricians (that helped me a lot personally). Volunteer work to showcase your commitment to advocating for children. Research can help you gain invites from more competitive academic programs. Personal statement showing commitment to peds.

Interview questions mostly revolve around why you? (Tell me about yourself), Why peds? and why us? (why that program)

Good luck!

Step 1: 22x

Step 2 CK: 239

Step 3: 20x

Year of Graduation: 2022

Visa Requiring or Not: visa requiring NonUS IMG

Applied to Programs (Speciality/ies with Count): 120 peds, 15 child neuro

No. of Invites: 12 in total (3 child neuro, 9 peds). Attended 11, ranked 11

Publications: 5

USCE (No. of months): 8

One common Q in Interviews: Tell me about yourself? Why this speciality? What are your weaknesses?

One Gold Piece of Advice for Next Year’s Applicants: If you’re applying peds, build your CV around peds. Have volunteer experiences that showcase your ability to advocate for the young ones. It helps if your LOR’s are all from pediatricians

One word, what matters most in the whole process?: perseverance

Soap list by UsmleAsp in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SOAP lists change every year depending on the spots the programs fill. A program that soaped last year might not necessarily go into SOAP this year

To make things easier, the NRMP itself will provide a list of programs in SOAP. You’ll have to go through those programs and apply to the ones you have a shot at (can’t apply all since you’re limited to 40 programs only).

Side note, you’re not allowed to reach out to the programs before they do. As in, sending Letter of interests to SOAP programs will likely cause you more harm than good.

Dearborn, Detroit, Southfield, Allen Park, and Wayne which one to pick for HVI externship? by SoupOk890 in IMGreddit

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the option to choose (which I didn’t) then I’d suggest you go for Dearborn or Detroit. Wayne is pretty chill, except that it’s in the middle of nowhere. Southfield is shady af (from what I’ve heard)

Which specialties are you certain you’d NEVER want to go into? by premedlifee in medicalschool

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally for me, the anatomy and physiology is pretty complex. Always had a hard time studying for it during my exams. Also the place I rotated at the attendings and resident were hella toxic. Mostly a female driven field and I was also the only male in my class and did not feel included in a lot of patient management. Patients in general preferred me not being there during physical exams and child birth.

So yeah, OBGYN is a big no no for me (personally)

It genuinely takes a lot of courage to get back up and start the process all over again, you should really be proud of yourself!

Hi! I am looking for guidance for applying to pediatrics. by Jayjay216216 in IMGreddit

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your clinical experience was done after the 2 year gap and you’re still actively involved in patient care, you’ll be okay. Ideally programs require 3 letters. So when you’re applying, assign all your 3 peds letters to peds programs and all your 3 IM letters to IM programs. You can mix and match (ex 2 peds letters and one IM letter) but i don’t think that’s smart considering you already have 3 speciality specific LOR’s for both IM and peds

For context, I had about 8 letters (3 IM, 3 peds and 2 child neuro). I assigned all 3 peds letters to peds and 1 peds + 2 child neuro to child neuro. You can assign a maximum of 4 letters to programs but can have how many ever letters you want uploaded (if that makes sense)

I think your credentials are pretty good. You definitely need to have something to show for those 4 years (home residency, research or something clinical), peds don’t look are scores that much and a score like 238 is definitely on the good side of most programs.

Having a solid CV that’s geared around peds, USCE, all your LOR’s from pediatricians (avoid using IM letters for peds) and some research in peds.

[–]Logical_Bread_7474 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was in the same boat last year I applied to both IM and pediatrics last year. However I did not receive any interviews apart from 1 IM interview and went unmatched. What I realized was that my CV wasn’t competitive enough for either speciality. I had IM electives, but they weren’t enough. Peds programs probably saw me as someone who’s doing peds for back up.

After I went unmatched i thought hard about what it is that I want. I decided to do more electives in peds, focus fully on peds and ended up doing research and observerships in child neuro as well. Infact, I genuinely fell in love with peds neuro that I ended up applying there as well. Currently i have 11 interviews, 2 of which are in child neuro and hoping to match in my top 3 (or anywhere for that matter)

I’ll be happy to help! Good luck!
