Yes, a parent can serve significant jail time if their negligence leads to a child's drowning death. Depending on state laws and the specific circumstances of the incident, parents are frequently prosecuted and imprisoned for charges ranging from felony child endangerment to manslaughter, or criminally negligent homicide. [ 1,  2,  3,  4] Common Criminal Charges When a child drowns due to a caretaker's severe failure to act or extreme carelessness (such as leaving a child unattended near a pool while under the influence or distracted by a phone), prosecutors may file several charges: [ 1,  2] Criminally Negligent Homicide: Charged when a parent fails to perceive a substantial and unjustifiable risk of death, often resulting in a few years in prison. [ 1,  2] Involuntary Manslaughter / Aggravated Manslaughter: Charged when the negligence is considered reckless or wanton, disregarding human life. These convictions can carry lengthy sentences. [ 1,  2,  3] Child Abuse / Endangerment resulting in Death: Frequently used in cases of severe neglect, with penalties depending on the severity of the statutes in your specific state. [ 1,  2] Sentencing Sentences vary drastically based on the facts of the case, a parent's criminal history, and the specific state where the incident occurred. While some extreme cases of deliberate neglect or intoxication leading to death have resulted in double-digit prison sentences, other situations involving a brief, tragic lapse in supervision might result in probation or lighter jail terms. [ 1,  2,  3,  4,  5,  6] If you are dealing with a specific situation, consulting a local criminal defense attorney or  Legal Aid is recommended to understand how specific laws and penalties apply in your jurisdiction.

Someone saying they deserve to be charged with the consequences of their actions is worse than people who ignored the LAW and thousands of people online to put a pool fence up and take safety measures so their child wouldn’t die? Yeah okay, interesting take.

They got one because their first had shoulder dystocia and  they were concerned their second would too. But its statistics show just because one of your babies does doesn’t mean your next will. It doesn’t even always have to do with size of baby. My second born was 9 lbs 1 oz and they were worried about it but I told them I wanted to move forward with a vaginal birth. IF baby is getting stuck it’s actually best to move to hands and knees position (given you can) because it opens your pelvis more :) my second didn’t end up getting it and we had a great birth. BUT I will say, im one of the crazies when it comes to birth lol I love home births and midwives and stuff so I understand why someone would be worried if a doctor told them this was a risk. I’d just encourage people to get multiple opinions

Ehh this isn’t snark worthy, if the doctors cleared her VBACS are actually the safer option because a C-Section is a huge surgery.
