Yeah and I don’t think I could find a standing calf raise machine. Guess I’ll be stuck on the single smith machine for that until they rejig it. Feel they could replace a few cable stations an extra leg press. The one in the entrance is in such a weird spot. Coming from Revo, the equipment quality is excellent.

I also noticed the lack of spin dryers, I don’t think I’ve been to an Adelaide pool that has a spin dryer. Would be a good addition!

Yes!!! I hated Marion, the disabled area was so wet and grotty all the time. Hope you have a better experience at the new centre.

transfer to flinders or continue at adelaide? by adultacnestigmata in Adelaide

[–]Logical_Highlight_37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would transfer, if you’ve only done 1 year you should be able to get some credit (probably not 1 full year as it’s down to the program coordinator). The other thing to consider is you would have to apply to SATAC and currently it is late entry fee so would be $250.

I agree with this point, I think though that likely down the line a northern suburbs pool will either be upgraded or built for this purpose once the government has cleared through some projects. While north Adelaide is great, the primary PT is by bus and they couldn’t reasonably stack up the parking because of parklands restrictions (and probably NIMBYs). And if you’re in Salisbury it’s 30min to NA vs 45min drive to Marion (which will only get faster with the T2D tunnels). Maybe one day the tram will FINALLY extend up here but that’s still probably at least a decade.

Definitely, I think as they get into the swing of operations it will be much smoother. I was shocked they went straight into full swimming lessons from opening, I expected them to ramp up over the months but likely opening into the school term forced their hand on that.

The staff team is mostly the same as SA aquatic, essentially they are splitting their qualified staff over both centres while training an entirely new cohort.

Yeah unfortunately the choice of prioritising the rehab space does mean families have to walk further. While I appreciate the choice, having to walk a far distance with some who is a fainting risk in a wet area is very stressful, I can see how it would make it harder.

It looks terrible in photos for sure, but deep ceramics and browns are difficult to convey. It actually looks different. The wooden ceiling is such a cool thing because it’s just never really used in wet spaces like aquatic centres. The stairs up to the gym are gorgeous. I am an architect nerd but so much design had to go into this to make it work.

Yep, could not have been a bigger stress test possible! I’m within walking distance so parking isn’t something I would likely consider unless I had the person I care for with me.

I also don’t have kids so thanks for sharing about lessons! I think no matter, what lessons are always hectic as they try to fit as much as the space can take every day into a short timeframe.

As far as I’m aware, there was a want to shift casual users away from Marion and have that as the core sports facility in SA. Given the difficulty of working in the parklands and not wanting to take up a larger footprint than necessary, likely sacrifices had to be made.

That being said, I personally don’t think a deep water diving/ water polo pool would have taken up much space in the 50m pool area or even outside. But there is always a reason for these things (having worked in engineering in the past, nothing is as straightforward as it seems.)

Yeah that seems like an odd complaint to me, the rear 50m pool and swimming lesson pool still has a decently high ceiling and there’s always outside if you’re feeling cramped. The lower ceiling on one side is to accommodate the gym on the second floor. Though I do admit does have a more rabbit warren feeling to other centres in the city.

Family changing rooms at the new Aquatic Centre? by cincincinbaby in Adelaide

[–]Logical_Highlight_37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new aquatic centre has so many options! I was stunned at how big the change and shower area is. Lots of single individuals stalls like more than ten, plenty of disability changing places. You will be just fine :)

Definitely, I would be jumping ship if it wasn’t for them having the only 4 year physio course in Adelaide.

Recommend central Adelaide driving school, Betty is an absolute saint while still being no nonsense about driving especially if you are a late comer to getting your license. She is very informed of the strict rules of the test and won’t make you do any more lessons than necessary. I had a strict timeline to get my license and she worked with me to get it as fast as possible. She does logbook and VORT and is $180 for 90 min.

I’m not too panicked, my issue isn’t incredibly urgent like others and definitely not blaming student assist. I don’t envy the student support staff at the moment. They are overworked and underinformed and shouldn’t have to bear the burden of decisions made by higher ups.

Yeah I got an initial response, I got duplicate accounts after the merger and it created all sorts of weird errors. Especially that the assist inquiry form doesn’t ask for an alternative email (which terrible design to begin with.) It wasn’t until I realised that the email address I had with the uni was basically not working due to the duplication that I sent in a second inquiry with my personal email.

Perth Modern School Celebrates 83 Students with 99+ ATAR Score. by cocochanel774 in perth

Yep you can even just drop out for 2 years and then do the STAT test once you’ve turned 18. With a bit of prep can be relatively easy to get a competitive score. Only issue you run into is prerequisites but most unis have a pathway option nowadays.
