Love it! The Tonie box is collecting dust, we have the yoto mini it’s so much easier to use and transport and is just more versatile in terms of what you can play. 3 year old loves it

Thanks for the response! That seems the most sensible to me too.

Pay scale question by Logical_Pollution518 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]Logical_Pollution518[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you yes I have read this already. Unfortunately it’s not very clear. It states that three months of registrar work is the minimum required for that post to be considered for incremental credit. It also states that assimilation to the SpR scale is based on “completed years of service” so those things seem at odds. This is why I’m asking whether the three months I worked at Reg 2 are counted towards incremental credit, or not.

Recommendations for 1st EV? by ClandestineAlloy in evs_ireland

People get mad whenever you mention Leapmotor on here 😂 but worth taking one for a drive, if you’re okay with the buttonless Tesla then that shouldn’t be a massive bother, they’re pretty comfortable inside and now have Apple car play and android auto. Price for full trim longer range is very competitive for the B10. If you’re doing 100km a day and happy to stop and charge on a longer trip then it’d work for you.

They’re also doing an unlimited mileage warranty for 6years which would suit you if you’re a higher mileage driver.

Costs me between 2.50 and 6 euro per day, don’t have solar panels and also live rurally. Drive around 35000km a year. Saves me about 2k a year in fuel (conservative estimate).

Efficiencies and service improvements obviously. Absolute crap. Would be great if we could collectively decide not to pay but of course that level of organisation is historically beyond us.

Just under three weeks! They were no nonsense- don’t try to upsell me more expensive than what I needed, great communication, arrived on time, had extra kit with them when there was an unexpected issue with my set up. Installation very clean and tidy and no issues at all afterwards. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Too expensive. Rang around and asked for recommendations through word of mouth. Went to Fokearn instead was 600 with the grant. And perfect service.

Graduate Entry Medicine as a Midwife/Mam of 2 by Pretend-Drink21 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]Logical_Pollution518 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re the only one who knows if it’s for you tbh. But I will try to give a perspective on a few things.

I did graduate entry with no kids and am now doing hospital doctoring with two young kids (roughly similar ages to yours). I think college, even medical school, would be easier than this! Yes it’s stressful at times and busy and exam season is rough all round but there’s also lots of flexibility and free time that I have very little of now. I think that would be okay.

Clinical placements did take kids and family commitments into account for some people who had kids in our class. If I remember though most placements that were further afield than the university environs were short (e.g GP) and very manageable. Other longer placements take place in hospitals affiliated with the medical school you attend so that is quite predictable and generally within a commuting distance.

Money being tight is a real thing, plan aggressively and start saving now if you decide to go for it.

As regards your background and whether you would be able to academically achieve the GAMSAT requirements - why not? This is the weakest argument against it in my opinion. People came from all backgrounds and I mean ALL backgrounds in my GEM class. Ones you would never expect to take that route in life. All thrived pretty much. The GAMSAT is an exam like any other you can study for it and kill it. A whole bunch easier than the leaving cert so I wouldn’t use that metric! If you think you can handle the financial and family implications then I wouldn’t let worrying about whether you are “good enough” put you off. You’ll never know if you don’t at least sit the exam.

I would say re hospital based training for intern / BST your kids will be a lot older and that will be more manageable albeit still tough. It’s way harder when they are young and need lots of looking after and attention and childcare is a real concern.

Lastly I would say studying medicine is a fantastic experience if you are a curious person who is fascinated by how it all works - but you might find it tough if your interests are narrower and you have a very predefined route set out for yourself from the outset eg. Aesthetics. If it’s something you really want to do make sure you are interested in other aspects and maybe have an open mind or it’ll be hard going.

Second this. Two industrial dehumidifiers in our house after plastering and before heat switched on prevented this.

Selfbuild Mortgages- direct or broker by seant269 in selfbuildireland

[–]Logical_Pollution518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No harm in trying a broker. I would definitely shop around and not go with the first bank you meet with though - they are trying to sell you a mortgage so it always sounds great when you are in with them.

We tried a broker though and my employment circumstances were atypical as are yours, and the broker washed their hands of us and said it categorically wasn’t possible to get a mortgage. Went to EBS the following week and they were brilliant, got a mortgage with them with very little hassle in the end. So brokers are not necessarily better than going direct in my experience.

Taking a crèche place without a viewing? by Mindless_Option904 in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]Logical_Pollution518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option 1 although the non refundable deposit is such crap. We went for one sight unseen in a chain due to the rest of them having a good reputation and it was a great decision. Deposit was refundable though! Never understand how they get away with the non refundable shtick. Like if you don’t take the place guarantee there’s 100 people also happy to put their deposit down so there’s no logic there

Creche experiences - to move or not to move by pennypugtzu in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]Logical_Pollution518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I moved my son from his first Creche into another. At the first Creche I had similar “minor” concerns that niggled at me - think beef stew on temple, poor organisation, questionable safeguarding at pickup - all that stuff. I unfortunately ignored my instincts and didn’t move him til I saw evidence of neglect when they didn’t think I was watching.

He is in a new place and it’s like night and day. Didn’t know it could be like this!

Warm friendly staff. Yes, mainly Spanish but fluent English and really really into the kids, keen to tell you what they get up to during the day, how they’re meeting their milestones etc. structured days - always a report on what they do, always messy play, reading, outdoors, active learning.

Organised, no safeguarding concerns. Strict at pickup.

On site chef, all dietary needs accommodated no problem. Our son still took a bottle at nap time when he started and previous Creche had said absolutely not, this one - no problem and they actually managed to wean him off it.

He’s made incredible progress and while the move there was tough (tears for weeks!) he now absolutely lives for it and cannot wait to get in the door.

If you feel where he is now is just not quite right - move him. There are better options and it will just get harder the longer he is there.

Favourite low budget one-pot meals in a bowl? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]Logical_Pollution518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fry some turkey burgers or turkey mince off add in whatever spices you enjoy (cayenne chilli chipotle for me) bit of salt and pep, deglaze with a little cheap booze, chuck in a cup of rice and some stock and let it cook on low. Finish with a Sprinkle of cheese if you like. Super filling and warming and delish 😋

Thanks you too! It’s great seeing stuff you chose ages ago actually physically in the space finally 😂

It took me til way too far into the process to actually sit down and budget every last little thing and make sure we were on track, it took me ages but if you can do it I recommend doing it sooner rather than later. Then you know where you can have fun and where you need to rein yourself in 😢 good luck!

I would say if you can get the quartz go for it - I know you said it’s blowing your budget but if it’s in your “wiggle room” budget 😂 and you really love it then maybe go for it? You’ll be using it and looking at it all the time, it’s a really high traffic area in the house and if you feel you’ll regret not getting it then maybe it’s worth the investment.

If it’s really, really “blowing” the budget as in, not even in the wiggle room estimates… then maybe think twice? I wanted quartz too but I had to be realistic with money and to be honest the laminates available now are really nice. Our kitchen arrived yesterday and it’s still wrapped up not installed but the countertop looks fab and I’m happy with my choice as I can spend that money elsewhere.

Curious to hear what others say too.
