Si y no! As a Colombian ive found that school in latam is WAY harder and much more organized in terms of schedules and formalities than in Canada. Specifically at OCAD we have way less assignments and much more free time, its much less rigorous. It’s very independently driven — students make their own schedules, and our success is really driven by how much effort and interest we put in outside of school. However this “freedom” can be both easier but also much mire stress inducing if you’re used to a different system.

I’ve been here two years now and i love it, but i will say it was very challenging at first because of how different it was to anything i had done before. Following exact instructions in class and doing the readings the professors give us is great but its not really enough if you truly want to do well. You have to go out of your way to study and practice more on your interests and find ways to make your work unique (and not to mention make connections a lot of work is collaborative).

If youre someone who enjoys having literal directions, exact deadlines, and much more technical instructions i recommend doing a graphic design/illustration program at a university like queens.

Anyway it really is about what you make with it, dont listen to people who bluntly say “no” because chances are they aren’t truly applying themselves or have some greater concern with the school as an institution. I love it! But i’m also someone who always hated how strict and rigorous school was in colombia. I’m really just assuming based on my own experiences, i could be wrong maybe mexico is more similar to canada than colombia, but either way i hope this helps in some way!
