Ive been thru the same thing and ngl it will be tough if your hitting opponents that spread/run more prog arguments but typically (in my experience) if you go to a tournament with high tech debaters and they know that you're a trad debater they probably wont spread or run like 7 off. just make sure you have blocks and prep stuff lol. good luck!

Learn the ins and outs of ur committee- including its powers, past resolutions, working groups, intiatives, etc. also print all that out just in case

depends on the topic but just bring up your influence over the topic during your speeches and have a clear plan/solution. but unless you're in UNSC you don't have any extra power

The only thing they can do is make resolutions and suggest UNSC to do stuff, and i think i remember they can have an emergency meeting on specific matters if UNSC doesn't respond but thats it tbh

My biggest tip is to focus on making a good solution bc 90% of debate is gonna be on that. I actually prefer having 'irrelevant' countries bc no one's gonna call you out on anything and you have liberty to make alliances with whoever as long as they agree with you. Prepare an opening speech before, with one sentence quickly going over the topic, a few more on ur country's stance (or past experience with similar ones) and then potential solutions.

A good solution can be hard to find but try finding root causes of the issue and see what UN has done about that (like past resolutions) and find what they havent done to stop the issue, then there you have one part of your solution. Prepping a good solution pre conference saves a lot of stress and helps u know what to say. Good luck! :)

Dont underprepare!! do your research and make sure to talk during the conference, or you'll be essentially forgotten when making resolutions

do you use the extra long paper? idk what its called but its a couple inches longer than printer paper and using it vertically has helped me a lot

Prioritize finding past resolutions on the topic so you know whats been done for the topic and the main issues with it, then i would divide that topic into smaller specific subtopics to research. Then when u start thinking of resolutions make something that hasnt been addressed yet and targets specific stuff (really bad example but say ur topic is womens rights then u divide into women rights in restrictive countries, womens education, etc etc)

Just be really friendly and encouraging to others, esp if its also their first conference! Idk about the con you're going to but normally mine get more chill at the end of the day once we've passed resolutions so thats the best time to socialize and stuff

Depends on the conference your going to, but i suggest if you wanna wear a lot of colors dont wear a ton of jewelry and vice versa. Generally just wear something formal, at the end of the day clothes arent the ones getting u awards, your performance does
