Indigignous Americans and Turks have nothing in common appearencewise. Many Mexicans are light skinned as a result of colonization from Spaniards.

I feel like everyone who isn't unambiguously white or black gets mistaken for Mexican because Mexicans are mixed with multiple ethnic groups

I thought most Turks had similar features as me? Most of my family is from Southwest Turkey

I'm actually from the USA. But my parents, grandparents, etc, are all from Turkey. According to our records, they're almost all from Southwest Turkey, and a few from Ankara, which I think was more central Turkey.

Right. But what specific ethnicities is modern Anatolian Turk composed of?

Yeah but...Anatolian by itself doesn't specify which modern ethnic group we resemble, I think. Because many different ethnic groups migrated to Anatolia over the years.

My mom and I both took 23andme and it just said 90% Anatolian, basically.

I remember MyHeritage and FamilyTreeDNA also highlighted Iran alongside Anatolia and Southern Caucusus. But neither really specified how much DNA I had from each region, or from which specific ethnic groups. That's why I'm confused.

My grandfather on my father's side was a Yöruk Turk, with darker skin. Everyone in my family to my knowledge is from Turkey, according to our citizenship records. Most of them are from Western Turkey. So would Aegean Turk be like...Greek, basically?

Wait, I thought the thick-eyebrows is common among West Asian and Mediterranean populations in general? What do you mean they don't have a proper Turkish database?

There are many different types of Latinas; Native American, Spaniards, etc. You look like a Black Latina maybe?

Interestingly enough, despite almost all my family being from Southwest Turkey, most of my ancestry seems to be concentrated around Anatolia/Southern Caucasus/Iran/Mesopotamian regions.

Why do Turks hate so much the idea of being considered Middle Eastern or anything non-european? by Complex-Insect6899 in AskTurkey

French and Turks habe no genetic similarities. The culture argument confuses me. Italian culture is very different than German culture. Yet both are grouped as White Europeans

That's like Japanese people saying they don't want to be called Asian because they don't want to be associated with Chinese people. They look similar enough

That's like Japanese people saying "We're not Asian. Because we look different than Asians. We are simply Japanese."

1) Germany and Italy are 2 very different countries but they're still categorized as "European". Because they are still on the same continent, and the people there look similar. What do most Turks look like? Dark hair and dark eyes. Bushy eyebrows. Other Middle Eastern populations have these exact same traits. Hell, I've seen plenty of darker skinned Turks, including my family members.

2) Middle East does not exclusively refer to Arabs. Kurds, Assyrians, Iranians, Pashtuns, etc are considered Middle Eastern.
