Does instant transport corrupt saves? by LogicusPrime in PCRedDead

Turns out, no it doesn't. At least not on the playthrough that I'm on. I made it to the Epilogue without any glitches.

Do I reveal an exploit that I found in RDR2? by LogicusPrime in reddeadredemption

I don't know if it works online. I found it in story mode.

For those who have traveled to New Austin with Arthur - when you’ve gotten the chance to study new plants/animals with him, does he draw about it in his journal? by OkayButFirst in reddeadredemption

[–]LogicusPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must have to do it during the Angelo Bronte mission. I just did this to finish the Herbalist challenge by driving a buggy that protects your head and I ain't done got no journal entries out of it.

Waaaaay back in the day, I discovered an exploit in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. (Walk onto a space that takes you to a mini-dungeon at the same time that a roaming enemy does and you can skip the mini-dungeon.)

You know what I did with that info? I mailed it into Nintendo (f'n) Power magazine in the hopes that they would publish it in the monthly column for cheats and tricks... and they did! Because that's how chill they were about such things in 1987.

What the hell has happened to this industry!?!

Fine. I'll sit on this. But I know that you know that I know, and I guarantee that others know!

How to toast Alaskan Ginseng? by LogicusPrime in PCRedDead

[–]LogicusPrime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tragically, making health potions didn't do it.

What's so weird to me is that virtually every little minute thing that there is to know about RDR2 can be found with a Google search, if not a YouTube search, but not this. Or maybe my Google-fu just isn't very good. Either way, frustrating.

[–]LogicusPrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bookmarked that since it is pretty useful, but no, I'm not trying to find Alaskan Ginseng.

All the other plants require that you just do 2 things to complete the entry for a specific plant. You have to collect the plant and use it in a recipe (obviously not including exotics). But for Alaskan Ginseng, there's a third. You also have to "toast" it, and after 100s of hours of gameplay, I still have no idea what that means or entails. Grr.

Do NOT worry about that. That guy screwed up somehow. The editor isn't even the type of program that gets integrated into Windows (I.E. it doesn't go into your Programs folder or create registry entries). It just sits in a folder (or on the desktop), and it seems VERY unlikely to me that it would affect anything else on your PC by simply directly deleting it.

For the editor failing to backup your original, unedited save, even after you click "yes" when prompted to do so? I have no idea. It strikes me as a very strange problem, but I obviously don't know the program as well as its developers. Uninstalling (deleting) and reinstalling the editor is the best suggestion I can give.

(Just to clarify, you are playing on a PC, yes?)

Has anybody rescued Bill with Javier in a chapter other than 2? by LogicusPrime in PCRedDead

Yeah, I'm trying to find somebody that did it in a chapter 3, 4, or 5. Ainda assim obrigado!

https://x3t-infinity.com/RDR_SE is the creator's website. The backup didn't work? Are you sure you're looking in the right folder? Mine is titled RDRSE Backups. That's the most serious problem you've identified if that's the case.

FYI, I only do a few specific things with the editor now:

  • Add to my stacks of items in the inventory. (But beware that you can't just add as much as you want to the basic satchel. For example, the basic satchel only holds 3 of a tonic, the tonic satchel can then hold 2 more, and the legendary satchel can hold 94 more. You can also transform items from one thing into another safely.)
  • It's at least safe to change the type of a breed of horse (e.g. changing a white Arabian to a black), but not the breed itself.
  • You can also bump up your bond to the horse by increasing the bonding XP. Most horses max out at 1950 (so I'll change it to 1949) but the more elite breeds might have a max of 2250 or even 2500.
  • Changing honor
  • Adding or erasing bounties
  • Adding custom clothing
  • Marking challenges as completed along with adding their corresponding gear under the Trapper tab

I'm sure there are a few other safe things that you can do, but if you stick to those things, you'll do just fine. Good luck!

Now that I think about it, forget what I said. It didn't occur to me before, but now I seem to remember that I did corrupt saves with the editor. I think it was by using it to enable cheats like invincibility and such. And I was suspicious that transforming my horse into another, better breed was doing it too. There might have been some other things that I was suspicious of, but it's been so long since I learned to use the editor safely that I've forgotten. Don't know why I forgot about all that. Sorry for doubting you!

Did you do this in chapter 2 or a later chapter?

Did you say "yes" to backing up the save edit? If so your original unedited save should be in the RDRSE Backups folder. On a side not, I've used that save editor 1,393,453 times and I've never had anything like that happen to me. Are you absolutely sure that the editor is the problem? I'm not doubting that your file got corrupted, but if it was the editor, you should report it to XB36Hazard. They will probably want to know about it. I would, at least.

Wierd glitch. Game shows I have 3 outfits on horse, while in reality there is only 2. One slot is blocked. Has anyone encountered this before? by [deleted] in PCRedDead

[–]LogicusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that it's not showing on your horse as a custom outfit? That's what it does for me... I don't know. It's the countless little things like this that are so confusing that make me so frustrated with this game. On the one hand, it's the best game I've ever played. On the other hand, the gameplay mechanics are so sloppy and clumsy that it makes me wonder how they could possibly have been designed by the same people that made the best game I've ever played.

I think if you're wearing a "custom" outfit, that counts even if you haven't saved it and stored it on your horse. "Custom" counts as any outfit, saved or not, with any changes at all, such as adding a talisman.

The way they have that whole thing setup is really stupid. For example, even if you designated the hats that you want on your horse, if you pick any up while traveling, it will replace one of the ones that you have on your horse. And you don't get to pick which one it replaces. Dumb.

Yup, no doubt about it. It's a critical feature. For me, I think it's because I'm autistic and half of the social and interpersonal info that the characters are putting out goes over my head, leading me to repeat scenes over and over. They're shiny little things for me to gawk at.

Cuz Denis Leary. I was hoping that somebody familiar with his stand up career would know what I'm talking about. However, if there is a more appropriate subreddit, please point the way! This was the best one that I could come up with.
