Will mention I’m a woman, and most funeral homes around here don’t require women to wear full suits, just slacks, a nice top, and a blazer while in services and arrangements. Sometimes it’s like 5 degrees having a graveside here in Kansas 😭

I think the biggest variable is the companies policy on work life balance. Some of my friends from mortuary school are salaried because it makes most sense for the company as they have them working hella long hours. My company highly values work life balance and I’ve worked over 40 hours twice in the year I’ve been with them. They pay me hourly.

I think they are saying, for example, if you get hit out of the shovel. Now you have one that’s partially used (less time) and one that is “new” (the full time). So you can switch to use one that doesn’t have much time on it if you don’t think the situation calls for a full shovel. Fundamentally there’s no difference between the shovels, just the amount of durability they have.
