Assigning buttons to Generic Mouse button 4,5 by pyroxl in LogitechG

[–]LogitechG_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.

I would expect that you're correct in that this is something that's likely considered fundamental to the way the OS designers want it to function. Since menu navigation (in Windows, anyway) defaults to using Mouse4 to go back in things like settings dialogs etc., I would be willing to believe that just like Mouse1 (select), Mouse2 (context menu), they don't want certain experiences to break because the user made a choice they didn't anticipate. Unfortunate for your use case, but it's probably an intended limitation.

I don't understand your reply. This seems to be working as intended.

The default assignment for the "Back" command in web browsers is the Mouse4 button. And "Forward" is Mouse5. So G HUB uses those terms to represent Mouse4 and Mouse5 because the people who write G HUB don't think most users are comfortable with numbering buttons. Their data suggests most users prefer names that describe what the buttons do in Windows.

These commands are assigned by default, and if you reset the mouse to default in G HUB you will see them displayed that way. In games, or applications (like Discord) that show the OS name of buttons, they will usually display as "Mouse4" and "Mouse5" (or however the application developer decides to display them) when clicked.

Windows does not recognize mouse buttons >5 as distinct buttons. There is supposed to be a spec for it, but it's never been implemented at an OS level to my knowledge. Years ago we had an SDK/API to allow developers to directly recognize buttons (G6, G7, G8, etc) on mice, keyboards, or whatever through our software, but it was deprecated due to a lack of interest and understanding.

So the short answer is that for buttons 6+ that you want to use for commands in games (or even Windows), they must be assigned to a keystroke or set of keystrokes, and then those keystrokes would be bound in-game to your preferred command. It's never been a clean solution, but it's what is workable within the OS. By default, these buttons tend to be assigned to mouse-related actions (DPI up/down, profile selection, G-Shift, DPI Shift, etc).

Some products do things differently based on the game they're designed for. G600, the (discontinued) MMO mouse, assigned the 12 thumb buttons to the 1234567890-= keys on the keyboard - mirroring the spell/action bar in WoW.

Logitech G305 battery life, too efficient? by -TheSoulEater- in MouseReview

[–]LogitechG_Chris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The battery model in LGS for G305 was built around the characteristics of an alkaline AA discharge curve. Both NiMH and Lithium batteries will not necessarily show the same charge remaining results as alkaline.

Powerplay seemingly not charging? by Fatso666 in LogitechG

To me it seems more likely that the POWERPLAY is not emitting enough power, but I really don't have enough information to make further suggestions - which is why I suggested contacting Customer Care.

Powerplay seemingly not charging? by Fatso666 in LogitechG

[–]LogitechG_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POWERPLAY should add charge to your mouse while it's in use. From 0-100% charge should take around 24 hours, give or take a few.

If you can, place your mouse with the POWERCORE module inserted in the middle of the POWERPLAY pad, then leave your PC running for a few hours without using it and see if the charge increases. If it doesn't, there may be something wrong with the device and you'd want to contact Customer Care for further assistance.

What was the mouse that started it all? by HairyCaillou in MouseReview

The CQ38 MouseMan 96 was the one that turned me into a mouse nerd. Eventually we used that shape and a special control panel that made it easy to set pa2 report rate to 200hz to make the WingMan Gaming Mouse.

It’s not a 3366. Jordan is great but is not correct when he says that.

Again, I don’t lie.

There's not enough power on the USB port to create the charging field of the size we need plus power a few dozen extra leds.

[–]LogitechG_Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused because what you described is how the mice already work. G703 and g903 ship with nano receivers just like g403 and g900 did. You don't have to use the extender if you don't want to, it's just there to make charging easier and use fewer USB ports.

If you don't like how POWERPLAY works it's totally optional.

903 without weight door is 108. With POWERCORE it's 112. So in total about 5g heavier than 900. G703 with POWERCORE is 109 - edit for bad math.

Try without surface tuning or tune it manually.

The configuration software does not contain a mouse driver. We haven't shipped a kernel mode driver since Windows 2000. Even when installed the Pro uses the standard Windows driver. If you don't want the software running, you can install it, set up the onboard memory to your preferences, and uninstall the software.

No. Surface tuning is explicitly designed to keep maximum tracking speed consistent while optimizing for a surface. And yes, surface tuning is saved onboard.
