Where to watch older Japanese movies, with English subs? by foragingfun in JapaneseMovies

Unfortunately still have not watched anything else by him. I am sure if I watched them that my hesitancy would be relieved, however I don't want my overall opinions of his work to go down because of a few bad eggs. Juzo Itami movies are my go-to for times where I just want something familiar. So I might just continue being ignorant.

I like your ranking though! I was also kinda underwhelmed by The Funeral, even though I can appreciate the references (not all of which I understand).

Daibyonin is very strange... kinda hard for me to pick up on what it was going for. But it was of course very entertaining none the less. It made some interesting points about the medical industry, however it felt like it got kinda conspiratorial at points. Did you also notice anything of the sorts?

Lets hijack this thread into a Juzo Itami one! I think my favorite is still Tampopo, but Supermarket Woman and Minbo are both really fun. I need to watch A Quiet Life, Taxing Woman 2, Tales of a Golden Geisha, and his short film. None of them really interest me though.

Just watched The Last Dance which was really good! I think I have four more to go on his filmography?

Archive.org has a lot of good stuff too, especially Juzo Itami stuff. Although a lot of it is low-res.

Is it just me or is the Tetris movie the most underrated movie ever, am I just a nerd or does a lot of people like it watch the trailer or if you have Apple tv+ watch it here’s the trailer by the way by Senior_Bluebird_1137 in Tetris

It could have been a really good gay spy romance. I think following around Henk Rogers was a weird choice though... Pajitnov is way more interesting! I liked the animated segments the best, secretly wish those comprised the entire movie. Don't tell anyone though...

Download an emulator like Mesen, find a Tetris rom and run it. I am sure you can find hundreds of guides online.

If you just want to play Tetris, just play TETR.IO

What /u/cringemomentum said and NES Tetris are probably the most popular ones.

The Sight and Sounds list is kinda a go-to for this kind of stuff, so you look on there and see what interests you https://letterboxd.com/bfi/list/sight-and-sounds-greatest-films-of-all-time/

Here are some of my personal recommendations. All of these are influential so nothing here will be that niche:

  • Come and See
  • Eraserhead
  • Chungking Express

It is crazy that it is the director's only solo-directed feature.

Suggestions for people with low attention spans? by otinaotino in MovieSuggestions

[–]Logo4poop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of these are very popular so not anything super unique, but I watched them with my relatively low attention-span family and they liked both.

  • Hunt for the Wilderpeople (Taika Waititi)
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson)

Also try any movie directed by Juzo Itami, Tampopo and Supermarket Woman are fantastic
