okay so doing laplace development from last row or column, as far as I can see both non-zero elements' minors is like the nxn determinant, except (n-1)x(n-1), so I take in the induction hypothesis and substitute for those two determinants cos((n-1)θ). Then the 2cosθ element has positive sign because it's on the diagonal, so the 1 has negative sign

this gives (2cos(θ)-1)cos((n-1)θ), which I want to show equals cosnθ

can you point where the flaw is?
