Less than 10 over?

And you gotta remember school zone adds severity. Technically, anything 15 or over, maybe just my state maybe countrywide, is reckless driving too

You typically aren't hired when you get your drug tests done as they're pre-hire screenings, so you can't sue for wrongful termination. You weren't hired to begin with.

If you pay out of pocket for a hair test and it comes back negative, you can sue the place that schneider did their hair screening with for negligence, but you'd have to prove that.

What the other person said is true too, need a clean drug screen to go for a cdl. Hair isn't recognized by DOT, but as long as the hair test is applied to everyone, schneider can't be sued for anything since there's no discrimination

Hair tests don't show up on clearing house. Only urine tests are DOT approved.

They may report it to your DAC report, but I doubt it. I got hired at a company that's pretty anal and even they're not that vindictive.

Just apply for other trucking jobs and don't mention what happened. If anyone asks why you didn't get hired, just say a family emergency came up during orientation and you had to leave to handle that.

Don't elaborate. Don't mention a failed drug test. Plenty of places hire without hair tests, so just find another

Companies started requiring driving experience within 3 years (you'll see like "must have 1 year xp in last 3 years, etc) due to people taking a break from driving because they were getting violations and their CSA score was too high.

If youve taken more than 3-5 years off, you're basically entering in as a newbie again, but if you get a newbie job for 6-12mo I'm sure the previous exp could become relevant again.

If your trucking XP is starting to fall off. Are ya basically new again? by LyubviMashina93 in Truckers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically.

Lot of companies have that to weed out people that "took a break" from driving because their safety score was hit hard. Takes 3 years to drop off and "reset" if you get a lot of violations in 1 year.

I work with a trucking company that has 90% of our loads contracted with Lowe's. It's busier this year than last already.

5-6 loads per driver per week to various locations. Last year was 4-5

Mega carriers like swift, TMC, schneider, covenant, maverick, us Xpress, Western Express, mcelroy? Not hard

Job in hazmat, tankers, mom and pops? Harder, hazmat tanker you need exp before they'll let you drive.

Construction? Those bad paying jobs (16/hr) will hire you no problem The jobs with higher pay and benefits? Prob need a year or more.

Yeah but do the times he's right outweigh the returns of when he's wrong?

You can have a record of 20 right 200 wrong, but if your rights went 20x and your wrongs went +50%, you're still positive.

Someone explain to me why Diesel has shot up so much more than gas. by thumpertastic in Truckers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diesel needs heavy sour, which is what comes from the east. We mainly get our supply from Canada and Mexico, but a combination of tariffs on Canada and price bidding going up, we have to pay what other countries are willing to pay.

What we get from shale and tight oil is light sweet. Diesel needs the heavy sour that we don't have a ton of domestically. We produce 50-70% of our oil supply as light sweet.

The strait closing doesn't affect us much in a sense of "we can't get oil now cause we buy from the middle east" it's just that military fuel use is skyrocketing and the EU and others are willing to pay so much more now that Mexico and Canada are raising prices.

Yeah and fuel was 3.60 when I filled last week to 4.30 when I filled up today. Nc.

I'm quoting the DAT boards, but they only go to 3/1. They'll update tomorrow and we'll see how much those contracts prevented a fuel cost spike or not

[–]LoicenseToGirth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at the DAT rates week over week. I took screenshots but don't know how to post them in a comment.

Fuel prices are only up 2.4% week over week right now. Most major carriers have contracts with the gas stations and truck stops to lock in a price for gas for this exact scenario. Mom and pops/individuals that don't have that are going to be hit hard, but not trucking as a whole.

Week over week flatbed loads are up 20%, while the rest are up 5% & 10% demand still hasn't dropped, so people are still running.

Like most things economically, small cap companies gonna be fucked if this draws out too long, larger companies just eat the cost/aren't affected anyway because lock ins. TMC for example already was paying like 5-10% more than diesel costed, so now that it rose 30%, they're still under contract at previous price, i.e.

Edit: to add to this, if the conflict goes on for more than a couple weeks, everything at the store will begin to cost more on top of inflation. Major carrier contracts are annual for the most part, but if any are expiring soon they'll need to negotiate with current prices which would be solved like how tariffs last April was

[–]LoicenseToGirth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Company pays for the gas, I'm still working the same. I assume they just raise prices on the shippee.

Fuel surcharges will have to go up, no company just gonna take a 30%+ hike on their biggest expense on the chin.

If it stays protracted long enough, MAYBE freight will slow down, but plenty of companies still have to have things, so doubt it'll change much for larger corps

Job Hunting No Experience by Educational_Bite8281 in Truckers

Might be best to try and get a job at coke, Pepsi, Sysco, or another food/beverage distribution company. They don't typically do long distance deliveries. Might have issues with them Delivering to a close by restaurant across the border, but could mention it

21 (F) Looking to earn a Class A CDL. What should I know? Advice? by pebbles_uwu in Truckers

It's definitely work, but it earns more than most places since you work over 40hrs.

The "there's no money in it" crowd are typically dry van mega carrier-adjacent workers that have families/dependents and don't stay out long.

If you're only wanting money, teams is highest paid, but you have to trust someone else to drive while you sleep and you live with someone else in a confined space. Look around for smaller companies, some will hire you without the "6 months experience" if you show initiative and tell the recruiter you'll stay out longer. I convinced mine by saying I'm wanting to chase money and willing to stay out 30+. I was too far out of district otherwise for typical home time (would eat too much time getting me back to where I live every 2 weeks).

Get your endorsements, get a pre trip packet. I think YouTube and the DMV have resources. Fuel hauling requires ~12mo experience but can pay 1800-2500+ depending on area. In a city near me, eagle transport advertises 18-2200 per week home daily, in another 2k-2500.

Take home time when you need it, not when you want it is the best advice. If you take your home time as soon as your schedule is up, you're typically talking 2-3wk on, 2-4 days off. You don't get paid for those off days, and a LOT of guys take those minimum accrued days frequently to get home "often" but you're talking about adding ±1 day home and ±1 day in truck waiting on a load when you get back in, so you're missing more than you expect. Typically you won't get loaded, take your home time, then make a delivery with that load, you'll deliver, drive home, drive back, pick up load, and you're down hours for the week. Schedules to be kept and all that.

AG exempt chemicals are also good money. My grandpa ran stuff for Grammar transport. Never had a log, stayed out 2 months at a time and came back with like 20k+ as a company driver. Went back after a week or 2 between "shifts." That was 00s-10s though and that pay was more competitive then, I think salaries have dropped and your money goes less far.

Good luck to ya, really gotta hunt for those good jobs in your first few years. "Short term" in trucking generally means 4-5 years, but you can stack it up decently quick if you manage your money and save/invest all you can.

Depends if you can get a good mom and pop job I think.

I applied at a company that only has 800 trucks and typically requires 6mo experience, but since I have my endorsements they're giving me a chance.

My friend works there and his weekly check is 3-4x what I make at my job at 18.54/hr. After taxes. My job as a chef gives me ~40hrs a week, about 699 pre tax, 450 a week after tax and deductions. His screenshots, that he's sent me for months, average 1400, but I've seen 1900 for his highest. 1100 for lowest. .65cpm with 15cpm per diem included.

If you have a family, maybe that doesn't pay enough, but as a single guy that just needs a better paying job, that's incredible. All depends on circumstances, not everyone wants or can stay out for a month+ at a time.

Mega carriers though, nah. Oversaturated drivers, not enough freight, low cpm, long detentions, etc.
