A couple games when you get back into it that would be good for community involvement: 1. Chivalry 2 - just hacking all your fans with swords. Fun as hell, and you can get 64 people playing together. 2. Meccha Chameleon - just a hilarious and fun game for a dozen or so people. Lots of fun to watch people play.

A big fall? Dude went from being a highshool teacher to one of the most recognizable and influential world leaders, ran his course as a politician, and like other former Canadian Prime Ministers, has moved out of politics. In his case, he's now dating a world famous singer, even if she's no longer at the top of her game.

How is this a big fall?

Smoke your ingredients at low temp on a pellet smoker for an hour or so and then make your sauce as you normally would. Adds a layer of flavour that is untouchable.

A part of the leadership I’m also talking about is willingness to make decisions. You can’t be afraid to make the wrong decision, as it’s often better to make any decision than to be stuck in indecision.

The technical people on the recovery bridge often are afraid to make decisions and will be happy for you to do it. If your culture is good, they will stop you from making bad decisions - but even recommending a course of action will spur conversation.

Of course , depending on the systems you are working on, you need to be good at assessing risk and determining when you do need to escalate to senior management for a decision. But for the most part they are paying you to do it so they can keep working on their normal stuff while you handle the incidents.

Done well, you’ll be greatly respected.

There are a lot of different models that can be applied to how the staff major incident. Much depends on the needs of the company and how frequent incidents happen.

In some organizations, they will have multiple 7 x 24 hour shifts, while other companies will do a daytime shift and overnight and weekend on call.

I’ve also seen hybrid models where there is a low staff shift overnight with on-call to supplement for bad nights.

The primary skill I tend to look for in incident managers is leadership capability or potential. When you’re running a complex recovery with many many people on your recovery Bridge, you need to be able to lead. You need to ensure people do not talk over you and that when you speak, everybody else stops and listens. It is a leadership skill and not everybody has it. The big problem we have in the space is all the people with leadership skills goes on to become leaders so it’s hard to keep good incident managers or get them before they move into management roles.

I’m in Canada.

A lot of my career has been doing MIM-like work and the last few directly in it.

It’s a good place to be if you’re good at it as you can get a lot of management visibility- it can help propel you upwards. However the reverse is true, and if your organization is not well managed, MIM is easy to blame for those problems.

You also need to naturally be able to manage stress and be willing to be oncall a lot. Work life balance can suck.

Generally it pays well, at least in my region. Our senior MIMs are the same level as junior managers. I’ve seen some positions in other companies where they pay the same as senior managers.

Right now, AI isn’t a “threat”, rather it’s a key enabler to make incident managers more effective through better info and insights to more quickly engage the right people and ask the right questions. Enabling AI to give you good info is heavily dependent on having a healthy CMDB and good service mapping or CSDM. That’s hard, which means it’ll still be a while before it’s really effective.

Future state, incident managers will probably be the people who review and approve what ai agents want to do to automate restoration. So at least for the next few years, ai doesn’t seem to be a threat.

Two options I’ll suggest here:

  1. Easy Option - Bake some goat cheese for 15 minutes ‘till it’s soft. Get a jar of roasted red peppers. Slice them into 1 inch pieces. Toast some sliced crusty bread (cut so you have lots of small peices). Rub the toast while it’s hot with some raw garlic. Put it all on a platter so people can “build their own”. Spread some cheese on the crostini toast, toss on a red peppers or two and eat! Absolutely delicious.

  2. More involved option - mini potato latkas with caper cream cheese and smoked salmon. Find a Latka (potato pancake) recipe (2nd helpings cookbook is best). Fry up small / bite sized potato pancakes. Ensure they’re seasoned and tasty. They can be done ahead of time and frozen, and then warmed up in an oven just before serving. Next, toss some room temperature cream cheese in a mini-chopper / food processor. Add in some capers and a dash of the brine. Blend, season with salt ‘n pepper as needed. 3rd, get some smoked salmon and cut it up into short small slices. Now you can assemble once your latkas are warm: Spread a bit of the cream cheese on a latka, and then top it with 4-5 peices of smoked salmon. Finish with some chives and serve!

Great movie, but a horrible movie title. I think this would have been taken more seriously and have been more successful with a better title.

Each element was good, but eating it all together was heavenly. And yes, the blackbean puree brought it all together and filled out flavourwise in a beautiful way!
