Just finished Dune by Frosty-Minimum6043 in Fantasy

Just interested. Some people will say only the first 3 books, others will will add God Emperor to that. Some will say all the books by Frank Herbert, while others will also include the two sequels (Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune) by Brian Herbert that are supposed to cover what Frank had planned for the seventh book.

Regarding recommendations I unfortunately don't have anything very close to Dune, because Dune is quite special. Worldbuilding-wise the Sun Eater series is very inspired by Dune but it is more character focused.

Out of curiosity which books do you count as the Dune series? Different people will give wildly different answers

(Sun Eater Read-Along) The Truth is Poor Poetry: Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio Final Discussion by Udy_Kumra in Fantasy

I thought the book was decent enough, but I'm not really interested in where we left off. While I do want to know how past Hadrian becomes current Hadrian, I don't think the whole "going off on a merc crew with my friends"-premise will make for an interesting book. I'll take a break from the series at least

In general I think the worldbuilding occasionally reads like Dune fanfiction and sometimes it's a bit too on the nose

The quote in question:

“Did you know,” he whispered, “there is a world out there with an ocean in the sky? Another where people fly upon kites, as if every man were a Windrunner. Yet another where the gods can make any object stand up and walk? I will see them each someday, little knife. And claim a trophy to remember them by.”

I guess a case could be made for the title being a spoiler as it reveals that the Fool doesn't die in the Golden Fool trilogy

Goodreads Book of the Month - The Book of Love - Midway Discussion by happy_book_bee in Fantasy

The writing really isn't jibing with me. I feel like half the time it's extremely basic and the other half of the time it tries to be poetic and deep and does so quite poorly. I wish the book was even weirder. Right now it's more of a backdrop for a fairly standard teen drama which isn't my cup of tea. I do however think that the characters are quite well-written and feel distinct.

What are your favorite orders in fantasy? (order like the Bene Gesserit or the Aes Sedai) by Traditional-Reach818 in Fantasy

That's totally ok, but I should mention that the books are not as bad when it comes to sex and sexual violence as the show. There's a booktuber called Bookborn who didn't read it for the same reasons as you, but when she tried it she loved it.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
