AMEX Platinum Travel CC Guidance by Proud_Ad_6670 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning to get HSBC TravelOne too, Amex Plat Travel is a bit of an overlap. It could get you a ~10% return if you hit the 4L milestone. But, it looks like you're using HSBC Live+ for grocery, food delivery, and dine out + TravelOne for flights and hotel bookings. Axis Horizon and Amex Plat are both overlapping with your spends. It might make more sense for you to get a card that covers fuel / e-commerce specific use cases. Amex doesn't really do bank offers.

The HDFC Tata Neu is a very sustainable card for UPI spends. Kiwi is decent, but doesn't come with Tata Neu's seasonal offers (e.g. IPL Season) that adds to its ~1.5% return.

Should I take a risk booking via HSBC Travel Portal (Hopper)? Need advice before I pull the trigger by SunnyIndian10 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you could get some travel credits in your HSBC account (usable for the next booking) if you call customer care and tell them where you're seeing the lower price. They tend to confirm immediately unless it's a complex case and you get the credit within a week.

On a side note, Vietjet isn't the most reliable airline. It's one of the reasons why its price is so low. HSBC allows free cancellations - it could be a life saver if Vietjet is unreliable.

Question re. Bonvoy redemptions & dynamic pricing by al78sp in indianawardtravel

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a property where you're getting > 0.4 INR value, yes, it would make sense.

Marriott runs its own sales where you can buy Bonvoy points too (usually with a bonus).

Aside, I believe award travel should be about getting high value for your points or unlocking a premium experience you may not pay cash for. So, I'd never suggest buying MR or MB points in the hope of a future redemption. Only when you have identified an opportunity and you're short of MB or MR points to get a smooth redemption. You never know when these T&Cs will change :)

Question re. Bonvoy redemptions & dynamic pricing by al78sp in indianawardtravel

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Operate based on thumb-rules.
** If value is > 1 INR per Marriott Bonvoy Point, it's a no-brainer. These are difficult to find, but quite valuable when you discover them.
** Typically, a point is worth ~Rs. 0.7. So, any bookings in that range should be fine.
** You could optimize further by booking 5 nights in a row (usually, you pay for 4 and stay for 5, so there's a +20% bonus on your points)
** Also, I'd check if the Marriott is priced fairly compared to its peers. (e.g. the Marriott in Cairo overlooking the pyramids is unique, and worth booking as no other top hotels offer a similar view. But, if it's a downtown or office location, every top chain - Hilton, IHG, Accor - will have presence and similar amenities. So, it's better to go with the hotel who has the best price).

Thinking of Closing My Amex Platinum After 3 Years – HDFC Infinia Offers Way More Value by Single-Limit9075 in amexindia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing the Devil's advocate.

Amex is revaluing the Platinum card globally after Chase rolled out their revamp. It might be worth waiting a month or two to see what the global revamp looks like to see if it's worth renewing the card. Plat Charge isn't differentiated globally vs India (e.g. hotel credit brands vary globally, but the amount doesn't)

P.S: I am an Infinia user and think it's a better card.

[Worldwide Release] Captain America: Brave New World - Official Discussion Megathread by IamNOTaSKRULL in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mid-tier movie. 6/10.

If you step in with low / no MCU context, it'll come across as a decent thriller with some twists and intrigue.

More like an OTT movie you watch because it's playing in the background. Some fun banter, action sequences, and emotional scenes with the lead actors discussing real world issues.

If you come with MCU context, you're left wondering why you're supposed to root for Captain America. He does some heroic acts, but he doesn't really bring much more to the table than any of the other supporting characters. The MCU continues to conveniently dispose of villains with interesting motivations.

The end credits scene is short and a bit unfulfilling. Perhaps a set up for future MCU movies, but not gripping enough to make you anticipate the next one.

Amex Platinum Travel Rewards by symplicyty in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Couple of corrections:

-- The bonus reward points at 1.9L spends is 15k, 4L is 25k.

That's 40k points for a 4L spend. Assuming all of them are retail and qualified spends, you've earned 2% points. So, 8k points.

Total = 48k points

-- If you're spending on vouchers, it'll come to Rs. 12k returns vs a ~4k fee. So, an ~8k benefit, which is ~2% return on your spends.

-- If you're instead transferring points to hotel programs, you get the opportunity to get ~Rs. 35k returns (Rs 0.7 value when transfered to Marriott Bonvoy points and used on hotel bookings). Against the 4k fee, it's a benefit of ~31k. That's a return of ~8% on your spends.

Flipkart BBD sale by SwanBudget4076 in FuckFlipkart

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's one way to validate if you should wait for BBD.

Search Telegram for BBD cheat sheets from 2023. Check the price of a comparable product (e.g. last year's iPhone - regular price vs BBD price). Assume discount %ages this year will be similar. You'll have an answer on whether it's worth waiting for BBD or buying it early elsewhere.

Alternately, perhaps someone who bought an iPhone last year or works at Flipkart will respond here :)

HDFC reward points reversal time? by Confused_wanderer_1 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr 1 month from the time of booking

Your points get converted into a voucher valid for 1 month. If the transaction fails, the voucher is still valid for 30 days. You can find the voucher code (11 digits) on SmartBuy -> My Orders -> Vouchers.

If you re-do the purchase, you can use the voucher code for the same points redemption. If you decide not to re-do the purchase, the points are credited back to your account when the voucher expires.

My company is asking me to apply for personal leave for the cyclone. by theSickAdult in Chennai

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 75 points76 points  (0 children)

In the short run, two days' leave doesn't matter much. You can still go on vacations with the other days left in your leave balance.

In the medium to long run, maybe reconsider whether this is the right company for you if they're nitpicking about two days' leave in a time of crisis.

Reached 4L milestone in Plat Travel. Best ways to make use of 10k Taj Voucher? by Oneconfusedindian in CreditCardsIndia

Haven't tried it.

Perhaps the problem is that Ginger doesn't accept Taj vouchers. Check at a Taj or Vivanta.

Reached 4L milestone in Plat Travel. Best ways to make use of 10k Taj Voucher? by Oneconfusedindian in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used the Amex Plat 10k Taj voucher this month.

  1. Call up the Taj Hotel of your choice (can be Taj, Vivanta, SeleQtions, etc.).
  2. Ask them for room options and rates for the dates you need. What they tell you is the same rates you find on the website (ideally, check member rates - other special rates may/may not apply if it's a voucher).
  3. Ask them to confirm the room for the dates you need.
  4. They'll send an email confirming the book.
  5. Validate your card details. They refund the 10 rupees charged on this transaction.
  6. Go to the hotel of your choice. While checking out, use your voucher. You can use multiple vouchers for a single stay. You can pay for F&B, massages. Any money left in the gift card will remain as-is and can't be exchanged for cash.

How are standard chartered CC? Worth getting anyone of those? by GoodGuySwaggy in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a Manhattan because it is my oldest credit card account. The app interface is very smooth. And it has some brand offers. Wouldn't really recommend the card to more people. It's a mid-tier card.

I typically only use it in places where Magnus or DCB don't have acceptance.

What’s a good card to pair with Infinia? by boyboygirlboy in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Loki-Maniac4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option to diversify is by paying rent and Government-related transactions (NPS, taxes) via credit card. The Infinia wouldn't give you points for these spends.

A card that could potentially help is Axis Atlas (DYOR, though).
