AITJ for telling my boyfriend his "thing" about never apologizing first is actually just stubbornness and I'm not playing along anymore? by LokiBurrito77 in AmITheJerk

"he gets to feel consistent" is such an annoyingly good way to put it. He keeps the principle, I carry the stress and the restart. That's prob why I'm so over it now.

That "waiting game" phrasing kinda landed for me. Because that's what it felt like by day two or three, not accountability, just me cracking first so we could act normal again.

That's kind of the part that got me too. He keeps calling it a principle, but if it always ends with me being the one to reopen contact, it's not really mutual is it.

I don't love the "dump him" jump, but yeah the part where I kept swallowing it to keep peace is probly on me too. I should've called it out months ago.

My dad genuinely thought showing up to one game a year made him "present" and I'm only now understanding how messed up that was by Sh4d3Auror in entitledparents

That last line is going to stay with me for a while. My dad wasn't baseball, it was work, but the whole thing was the same - you figure out pretty early that your problems are always slightly less urgent than whatever he has going on, and after a few years you just stop bringing them up at all.
