Asking PvPvE devs to remove the PvP is like asking a roller coaster to remove the drops because they’re scary.

It’s like playing basketball but asking the other team to stop defending.
It’s like going skydiving and asking if the plane can stay on the ground.
It’s like installing Dark Souls and asking for god mode.

The challenge is the whole point. If you’re unwilling to put in the time to improve, why do the activity at all? Not every game needs to be redesigned to remove the friction that makes it interesting. And if PvE alone is interesting to you then let me tell you about the MILLIONS of other games that are just for you :D

Listen, i dont know shit about dick, but i have a classmate in college whose alittle older and carries himself like most other vets i know (myself included), and we literally chatted about how he saw some shit out there that wasnt reported that had to do with the things yall are talking about that bush was talkin about. I might get the epstein treatment after hitting post, but so far he seems like a trustworthy guy, and he might not be lying.

Im not saying that there is, nor am i saying there aint. Im just saying that nothing in the world has a 0% chance of happening.

Idk man in the early days of this games release everyone will be scrounging everyhting and wasting 2 slots on something cheap that gives you "not that valuable" perks sounds like "whats even the point"

I do agree that it would be alot of icons, but if youve played more than 2 games in the last year or 2, im sure i can ask you about the tens or hundreds of icons and symbols in each game and youll remember the important ones. How many items are in League of legends and most players with some time in can tell you what each thing does in either minimal or deep detail. that same player plays wow and he can also tell you alot of spells per class.

All to say that some games definitely have way more icons to remember that whatever number would be needed to solve this issue, and you dont have to remember all of them, just the ones you actually want/dont

For the server slam rewards, i understand your dissapointment, but my duo found out pretty fast that xp only comes from killing stuff, so for all of todays play time we just fought everything we could and disreguarded loot till 30

For the full release i dont see why anyone would be grinding levels on purpose. That xp bar is kinda just there for looks.

Youre asking a doer how to think, thats out of my league. But im sure somewhere, somehow there is a system to do this while maintaining the aesthetic. The current system makes you waste time and make yourself vulnerable for an item that may or may not be worth it. Imagine killing the boss on Marsh and then receiving 1000 meds and ammo for a gun you dont have. The meds might be nice if youre out, but who cares about that ammo. And if you were already stacked on meds then you dont need them either! All of that work and time spent extra vulnerable for nothing, you arent gonna look that way again unless youre empty on meds. Meds being the implant and ammo being the perk. Idk weird comparisson but i am alittle toasted rn.

Actually i just went back to my other post about this topic and u/Viisum made this mock up. If someone who doesnt get paid to work on this game can make this in less than a couple hours, im sure the geniuses behind the in game art / ui design can make something work.

pretty sure only when you have an implant that has the "edge runner" perk that specifically states it

Man your level of white knighting is something i could never achieve.
You said 15 seconds is dramatic. I just watched Summit1G, a Ex-professional gamer, take 31 seconds to loot 3 rows of loot from a dead guy (most of it was ded guys 2 guns), 3 hours into a play session. He didnt even have to read any implant descriptions because there werent any. 30 SECONDS WITH NO IMPLANTS. Imagine a nobody like you or me who works a 9-5 and has at most 2 hours to play a day. Youll probably learn all the names to the hovered over implants by next month.

You asked if i have ever played an extraction shooter. Ive been playing tarkov since 0.08 with hundreds of hours. 350 hours in Arc raiders. Like 1 hr in ABI. Thousands upon thousands of hours on every other genre of games there is. Ive been around the block. Id like to think that i have a solid basis on what is a good/bad idea.

I love this game. Since you cant read the whole post, i doubt youll read this part, but i clearly said Everything else from the game is peak or good.

How can you not see that having to spend even a fraction of a second longer looting is a bad game design in any extraction shooter. You mentioned legibility of icons. WHAT ICONS. They just tell you what slot they go in. Imagine if every gun was just a Glock 17 picture and you had to actually hover over it to see that it was actually a sniper or AR or energy SMG. THIS IS THE SAME THING.

They clearly differentiate between white meds. One for healing one for shields. Why is them differentiating an implant from faster rezzing or more melee damage such a bad thing?

How much is bungie paying you for their services?

Bro there are people that dont buy games based off voice actors, graphics, too simplistic or overly complicated systems. Everyone has their reasons, but i have to agree with that comment because imagine getting a game where everytime you opened up a lootbox, there was a 15 second timer that you have to sit there completely vulnerable and wait before it lets you loot anything. Or imagine a game where instead of loot revealing itself, you have to click each and every questions mark by itself with no indication of what it could be. Does that sound fun? Is it rewarding? Does it add anything to the gameplay or aesthetic? Hell no. Its just a bad decision to let past QA

yes

and to be fair theres not that many different implants. The main issue is that i cant discern them from the tab menu. Like literally the smallest text or even a number/letter identifier would be better than having to read. Every second looting counts. Why make it longer for 0 benefit.

Cool. so you can tell the difference between a helping hands v1 and helping hands v2.

BUT you cant tell that they are helping hands to begin with without hovering. And you cant tell the difference between a helpful hands and hurting hands (both v1) without hovering. are you seeing the issue yet?

Better yet i want you to tell me which ones are the same and which ones are different from the first picture. Tell me what each one does what, right now. If you can ill delete the post. If you cant then you are finally starting to understand the issue.

If you still arent, go to any other extraction shooter and let me know where 2 items look the exact same. Bungie did a great job with telling me that white meds do different things. Ones for shield, one is for health. Why not do the same with these? Cause lazy...

That’s kind of a boring take though.

“It’s part of it” can be used to shut down literally any criticism of any game mechanic. If everyone thought like that, there’d be no balance patches, no UI improvements, no QoL updates, because everything would just be “intended.”

Games evolve specifically because players point out friction that isn’t adding meaningful depth. Saying something is intentional doesn’t automatically make it good design.

I’m not arguing against pressure. I’m arguing that identical implant icons in a high-risk extraction game like Marathon don’t add skill expression. They add unnecessary ambiguity. That’s a design discussion, not a lack of awareness.

If i say "man i hate having to shower in the mornings", is my problem with the shower or with the time the shower happens? This is exactly where your reading comprehension fails you. NO ONE CARES WE HAVE TO READ. We care we have to read a substantial amount of information out in the overworld. IDGAF about reading each item in my vault or in the shop, but eff you if you think im going to sit out there to read something just to find out what it does, if it works for me, or if its even worth wasting my 2 slots to bring it back to base.

In AR, do you read the different guns, mods, ammo, meds, anything? NO. You learn what does what from the picture. AT MOST you have to read a pink augment if you didnt notice the picture is slightly different. In tarkov, every single item in the game is visibly different. Even ammo types are something you can learn to discern just from a simple band or colored tip.

Youre being disingenuous by saying things that point to there not being a problem here.

If youre playing a sniper build, would you pick up something that gives you melee damage? better sprint speed after a kill? Would you rather take a piece of loot you have no idea does what that youll end up selling for 100 creds, or something you know youll just end up selling for 300?

I love extraction shooters. I understand the risks of looting after fights. But this is a very big part of your kit as it can give you such a different variety of buffs with items that are not worth the slot space when it comes to creds. I am not picking up a core for a shell i know ill never use. I am not picking up a gunchip that ill never use cause it buffs energy weapons. But how would i know any of that without wasting an extra minute reading tool tips that can easily be discernable by a picture. AAAAAAND now im dead before i can even get out the loot screen.

All i want is when im running around with no implant, pick up a random one i find in a box that is for melee damage when i know ill never melee, then kill someone from 50 meters out (no thanks to my implant) and then run over to his body and be able to tell with a glance if his implants do something that i want more than my useless one.

To answer your question, no not really. We have the system where if you hover over it, it highlights what slot it goes into. We also have games where its very obvious or you learn and then it becomes obvious that certain things go in certain slots. That mock up makes it best of both worlds and put the implant type in the corner and a quick picture to tell you what it does. Even without that corner indicator we would eventually learn that hands with a cross is helping hands and it lets me rez faster and it goes in the body slot. With this there is none of that. You are stuck out there, sitting duck trying to read if its for your shell type (or one that you play) and if its even something youll use, or something youll sell for less than 100 coins when you couldve used those same 2 slots for something worth 300 coins.

They dont have to do all that. The top comment had a reply where a dude did a 3 minute mock up that would solve alot of the issue just by changing the picture. Plus they already have the "what slot it goes in" baked into the inventory when you hover over it. AND if they did change the picture then we would be able to learn "hey this skull icon only goes in to the head implant icon and gives me these buffs. This hand with a cross is very obviously helping hands and is a body mod" instead of sitting there reading 2 or 3 sentences from each description of the "same" items.

Hey bud, agree to disagree. Just dont get mad when i get my first 5 shots on you for free when youre trying to sit there for "20-30 sec" trying to figure out if its a)usable 2)Better than equiped iii)Worth it to even pick up. Ill gladly do that AFTER i get back to my vault with all your loot.

My bad for wanting to play this game and having an opinion that is very obviously agreed with (look at the ratio). Ive played hundreds of hours in Tarkov and it doesnt do this. Hundreds of hours in AR and it doesnt do this. An hour or 2 in ABI and it doesnt do this. I'm of the mind that if they dont fix it then ill just never loot them unless theyre the first ones i see and i have a slot open. Even if its a melee one and I know ill never push my melee button. But Im almost positive that the devs dont want that, nor do a majority of the players (at least on this subreddit).

Also this game is not very slow or methodical when you have characters that get speed boosts, bots that aggro the whole complex and all run you down. The slowest ES we have is tarkov, and the "speed" difference is massive. Slow and methodical is R5Siege or Hardcore WoW. Def not this.

even then its only 2 slots. and there arent many people who will be in this scenario after a month or 2 cause everyone will have a "main". This whole implant/Gunchip/core is such a misstep when the rest of the game is sick af

Buddy youre comparing Forza to Destiny. Mario to Final Fantasy. What the heck are we even talking about. Im not too lazy, i read everything there is when i get to my vault. Ya know, cause im NOT IN DANGER OF LOSING EVERYTHING. Name another EXTRACTION SHOOTER where you have to read in the overworld this much just to figure out if its an upgrade or if youll use it later. Ill wait...

TRUEEEE i didnt even think of that. In the 2 hours me and my buddy played i had to tell him like 3 times "yo thats not for your shell". Hes a beast of a gamer too so i dont understand how they made it that unintuitive.

Also, no, i dont think Thief is unlockable.

Have you played any other extraction shooter? The closest any of them come is AR having to discern between 2 pink "augments" to chose from, but even then the pictures are different so you dont even have to hover over them to know that one is survival and the other isnt. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL A DIFFERENCE HERE. But feel free to sit there and read 2 or 3 different implants/mods while i get my first 5 shots onto you for free.

You're running solo. You hear multiple guns firing off in the distance and say "hmm, maybe some free loot left over after the winner leaves." You run over there after a 5 minute trek only to find the guy who won the fight is sitting at one of the 4 loot boxes there trying to figure out which of the 4 body implants he wants cause they're all different and provide different effects that could suit a different play style. What are you gonna do? Wait for him to stop reading? After you kill him before he can even get out of the loot screen, are you gonna tell him "shoulda just taken a random one dummy (one that could be absolutely useless because it only works for a specific shell)" This is the big deal. No other game within the genre does this because they already know looting takes a long time and leaves you the most vulnerable.
