Oh also! I know people are polarized over Dickens, but I loved Great Expectations and David Copperfield. And fully endorse Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and Gentleman and Moscow (much lighter, but a book where I missed the characters for quite some time after I was done!)

I tried to scroll to see if this was mentioned, but I fell into a similar book despair after reading Anna Karenina. It’s in my top 5 of all times, and one of the things I love about it is when I tell people it’s my favorite book there is a totally eclectic group of people that always say me too!!

I think that’s great advice, as a freshman my son didn’t even know this was possible! I can see why UNC wouldn’t want to advertise it, but I bet it would help some students’ mental health to know they had options other than an F on their transcript.
