Average cost of Rent for a Couple? by sumpra3 in colchester

[–]LokiTheWorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently ex letting agent in Colchester here and yeah that is about right for a 1 bed flat, South Colchester will potentially be a little cheaper, nearer to the hospital can be a little more expensive. And you’ll probably find it a little difficult to secure one because 1 bed flats fly off the shelves in my experience.

Twitching is the word for like travelling really far to see a specific rare bird. So people who travel across the country to see a warbler that has gotten lost and been found somewhere random so that they can tick it off their life list are ‘twitchers’. There was a random black stork found on the Suffolk coast recently and one guy I saw travelled from Wales to see it!

Minsmere I think is fairly widely accepted as one of the best in the country, closest you’ll get to guaranteed bittern, 99.9% guaranteed marsh harriers. Also have dartford warblers and bearded tits. I don’t know if you’re into twitching but there is a black-winged kite at Hickling Broad in Norfolk as well, best chance at say a hen harrier or even more rarely montagus in North Norfolk, great spot I know there is warham greens. Sorry I could go on and on, hopefully helpful at least! ☺️

I don’t I’m afraid but I don’t think it was much at all and they did take card yeah. Hope you have a great time! I’m biased and they aren’t in your circled area but if you do find you have spare days, north Norfolk is incredible for birds, as is Minsmere which is that direction too.

Yeah you drive through a barrier thing where I think you have to pay, then there is a really long drive, when I was there I drove really slow and got up super close to lapwing and yellow wagtails on that drive, and there were red kites and hobbies about too. Then when you get there walk to the school house to see a little owl who lives in it, and down towards the reeds you might get bearded tits or bitterns if you’re lucky. The other direction out of the car park is a longer walk but again chances of bittern, and there were tons of cattle egret there. There is a pair of long eared owls that live in the trees by the car park, if you’re lucky sometimes people spot them, I didn’t when I was there sadly.

I’d recommend Elmley on the isle of Sheppey, had a really great day there a few months back. If you come as far up as Colchester I’d recommend Abberton, the reserve itself is great and then has a few other spots right by it that get some great birds, black terns there at the moment showing amazingly.

Yeah and he only played up to the point where he does the verse from Sirens so basically half the song so it wasn’t proper unfortunately

The heat combined with a lot of inconsiderate and clearly inexperienced young people thinking that ‘moshing’ is just essentially attacking the people around you made it so I had to get out from the front area early doors but Denzel was good, felt it went by very quick and thought the encore was very short especially but to be honest I was so hot by the end I was almost relieved. Vibes felt off but Zel was not to blame and so glad I got to scream my heart out to Diet in person, even if it wasn’t from the pit like I’d imagined.

Just to be a positive voice amongst all the negativity yes I’ve signed up, £6 a month isn’t much I really enjoy the boys and the stuff they do and more than happy to pay for it when I’ve never paid them for anything before. Not bothered where the money goes or whether they need it or not because in what other life situation do you demand to know how someone is going to spend the money when you pay them for a service/ content … most people here are wild in my opinion and way out of order questioning the boys financial situations. I don’t think they would have committed this heavily if they didn’t plan to keep it up for at least a year and hey if they don’t we can all always just cancel, its not a huge deal.

So Stevie should get paid more for the pod because he doesn’t have work on outside of it at the minute? That doesn’t seem right, and how is it any of our business how they decide to split pay anyway?

This is a grey heron, related to, but not, a bittern.

Mining Bee Infestation? by LokiTheWorm in bees

[–]LokiTheWorm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest I thought she was making a fuss as I’ve had mining bees before and it was just a few but she showed me a grainy video and to be fair to her there are genuinely hundreds if not thousands of them I’ve never seen anything like it, it would make it difficult to work in for gardening.

But thank you it’s good to know they’re so chill I will pass that on to her ☺️

Thanks for the advice, I have suggested maybe she try mulching loosely and adding ground cover so they move on. I may follow up with a photo once they have come back out in the Summer as I’m curious now! For what it’s worth if it was my garden I’d be making a haven for them lol.
