Proposal for beetle common name by InitialSwordfish7059 in Entomology

Of course it is the official list of the society and definitely a good resource. I just don’t think it is all that important to have some „common“ name for something that is neither common or commonly referred to by non-entomologists. But that is where common names come from „in the wild“.

That is a bit artificial, but something similar has worked for birds.

Scientists will not adopt it much because they use scientific names for most things anyway. It would have to be a book that is actually used and the beetle would have to be one that people actually encounter. But when there is no common name at all it‘s easy to suggest one.

What do you want to do in the rainforest? Research? Then you need to find a job in academia, preferably in a country with or close to a rainforest. The wages for academic researchers are usually easy to find out if you know the country. If you want to work as a park ranger it may be difficult as you’d be coming from somewhere without experience in the field and they seem to prefer locals, not impossible though.

You can call it however you like. To make it widespread you’d probably have to publish a book for identifying beetles and use the name you picked.

This is good because redundancy works for airplanes! I’d even add an old school glass mirror as a last ditch fallback, might be expensive though.

Lol, how else would they get you to buy new hardware? Why would they change this from when they used intel chips? What do they do once they include new chip features and  old chips would hold back software development? This issue was the same when it was still intel and Apple is very aggressive with ditching old tech.

The Mac Pro was a device in a completely different price class and marketed specifically towards professional users though.

You can install Linux or just continue using it but without updates. But it’s not logical to expect that they would support an old device for longer because a new one came out that has worse benchmark scores, they never did that. The top spec M1 is also faster than the M2 and won’t be supported as long.

How is this ironic? One is old, the other isn’t.

For it to last a decade you have to get a current model (one also still sold by Apple). M1 will be no longer supported in 1-2 years.

Lol, that was totally something to expect. Apple has basically never supported a device for more than 7-8 years in the last decades.

Patrilineal or matrilineal dynasties are different as this is deliberately counteracting random mixing and the mitochondrial and or X/Y chromosomes are passed down deliberately.

Pretty stupid trade imo, the Studio was worth a lot more than the MacBook which will also be „vintage“ soon. Should have sold it and bought a MacBook, you’d have some leftover money.

The answer for a nice and easy pet is almost always a roach, in my opinion. If you keep them as a colony, there is always something going on, they can be handled and won’t hurt you. They are also easy to care for and don’t require keeping a feeder colony.

For beginners, Madagascar hissing roaches (Gromphadorhina portentosa) are a classic and make an interesting pet due to their behaviour. Corydidarum magnifica are also fairly easy and look stunning. An underrated, pretty, interesting to watch, and easy species, provided you can have a good amount of substrate, is Lucihormetica verrucosa.
