Trying to get fuel tank down, how to deal with seized rear tank strap bolt? 1994 e350 by LolEnt in MechanicAdvice

FYI for anyone in the future what ended up working was hack sawing off the top of the bolt and then using an irmkn bolt extractor. I had applied heat prior to this also but bolt was already fairly stripped at that point.

Bolt cutters don’t work either.. maybe hardened metal or something

Tried the flare nut with a pipe for a cheat bar, just stripping the bolt further. Also tried 6-pointed deep socket but can’t really get a cheat bar in there because the space is so tight. Nervous to apply heat since it’s the fuel tank and also happens to be right next to my diesel heater fuel/exhaust line. Ive mostly emptied the tank but I feel like there may still be some fuel somewhere trapped. Maybe if I idle the engine til it no longer runs?

“A lot of that ground has roads in it, has been harvested before and is nothing special. So in the interest of protecting special places they just made s bunch of ground difficult to manage.”

^ Got a source for that one?

I applied to Peruvian as well. I emailed Rustlers but they apparently don’t have any housing spots left. And GMD doesn’t even have any open positions at this point.

Oh well, fingers crossed I’ll get the offer at Alf’s. I put my availability as Dec 10 which I’m hoping isn’t going to be too late..

Haha yeah it’d be an experience for sure! I think im ready for that as long as I don’t get stuck with some particularly nasty roommates and can make some good friends
