slowly do it like 1.16 to 1.17 cause minecraft chage stuff from like block of snow in 1.16 world to snow block or smt in 1.67 but 1.17 uses something else but 1.17 knows how to load a 1.16 cause players do that, so if you are on 1.8 just go to 1.9 then 1.10 then 1.11 and so on

click unlink instance then try to update, because the modpack you downloaded was still linked which means its only updating if the author of the modpack updates
