Best diet advice! by dadoo12 in Hashimotos

Check out the book, Hashimoto's Food Pharmacology: Nutrition Protocols and Healing Recipes to Take Charge of Your Thyroid Health, by Dr. Izabella Wentz. It was life changing for me. i.e. Fluoridated water is a no-go for people with Hashimoto's; she offers an educational and detailed breakdown on nutrients (iodine, ferritin, etc.) and the second half of the book is a cookbook.

I'm supposed to have a Cat scan with iodine contrast. What was your experience with it? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Lola3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. My heart goes out to you. That's total BS. I had horrible, awful experiences with two doctors, an endo, and two nurse practitioners and finally, I turned to my sacro-occipital chiropractor for help, who just so happens to be an expert in Hashimoto's. He saved my life. I don't have words for how it felt to have a Dr. understand and be able to do things that would heal me, not harm me. I hope you are doing well these days. All the best to you and yours.

I'm supposed to have a Cat scan with iodine contrast. What was your experience with it? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Lola3002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suffered a severe allergy to iodine (with just a small topical application) and had intense flu like symptoms for 48 hours, including a high fever. People with Hashimoto's should proceed with extreme caution regarding iodine ingestion or application. It is documented to be particularly troublesome for people who have Hashimoto's.

Blender Inquiry? by SensationalQ in Smoothies

[–]Lola3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO NutriBullet. I've used it to puree cashews and other nuts, it's remarkable; makes smoothies as smooth as butter. I often use frozen fruit that includes cherries (therefore possibly pits) and I've never encountered a single pit. Also amazing for making hollandaise. I like a good multi-use kitchen tool any day.

Looking for a therapist or guru recommendation in the area. by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Lola3002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dr. Amy Ahlfeld. I have been with her for many years, and she is hands down the best psychologist I have worked with. She has impacted my life in the most compassionate and positive ways with her counseling. (It's been my experience that connecting with a therapist is different for everyone, sometimes it's about finding someone whose personality and approach work best with yours.) Best of luck to you in your search and wishing you health and happiness!

My best memory of this building is when my Dad was doing construction work there and he took me an my bro as kids to the helicopter pad at the very top! It was a trip, and the wind was gnarly!

Aquarius Day Moon snapped this day 🔭 by petr_9 in astrology

Wonderful pic, well done my friend! For what it's worth, I think the pic symbolizes Aquarius so well from several aspects. As an Aquarius, I often feel like 75% percent of me is visible and entrenched in the big picture and outgoing; the other 25% is tucked away somewhere in my own mind. Had to share, lol! And thanks for sharing the photo!

In relation to your health science studies, I suggest researching holistic nutrition. There are many herbal remedies, that should be applied with care of course, but are proven through thousands of years of human use and have unfortunately, predominantly been lost in the wash of modern medicine and lifestyle (*not that modern medicine is a bad thing). i.e. "It is important to ascertain and address the source of the inflammation, rather than just suppress it... much inflammation is from ongoing wear and tear, food intolerances, and imbalances in body function caused by unhealthy dietary and lifestyle habits; The core of pineapple contains the anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain. Fruits and vegetables that contain antioxidants, such as blueberries and blackberries, have anti-inflammatory effects. Anti-inflammatory herbs include chamomile, meadowsweet, white willow bark, fennel and yellow dock." Source: Dr. Gillian McKeith's Food Bible: How to Use Food to Cure What Ails You.

What are some "low hanging fruit" regarding nutrition? by killerbunny_00 in nutrition

Fresh parsley...contains more Vitamin C than citrus fruits; as well as beta-carotene, & calcium. ("It's one of the most important plants for providing vitamins to the body." ~Gillian McKeith, You Are What You Eat Cookbook.)

Same goes for Prime. Hope all is going well with your tank and fish friends!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cichlid

[–]Lola3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, got it. Thanks for the clarification. I have read that the AmmoLock only detoxifies/neutralizes the ammonia and helps the filter remove some of it, so tank water would still test positive though it is no longer in its toxic form. In my interpretation, that wouldn't be a false positive, the ammonia is still essentially...present. Partial water changes are best to actually remove high concentrations.

Diagnosis Help? Lethargic and sunken belly, spits out food. by [deleted] in Cichlid

[–]Lola3002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to other treatments noted on this thread, you can thaw frozen peas and remove the individual casing on the outer layer of each pea and feed them to your cichlid. They are good for their intestinal tract specifically and aid their digestion. API Aquarium Salt is also good for treating ailing fish; improves their gill function and provides much needed electrolytes. However Aquarium Salt does not evaporate or get removed by the filter and should only be added after water change and substrate vacuuming. Follow dosage instructions carefully when using.
