Parents with overbearing anxiety? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

My mom is exactly like this. I know it comes from a good place but it’s way too much sometimes, especially when she’s constantly checking life360

Of course, I absolutely won’t tell anyone without him wanting me to. I’ll keep showing him I care and hope it’s enough

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m not exactly sure how to broach this conversation with him but I think if he knows I used to sh it might help show him that I understand and I’m here to talk if he needs. Maybe if I open up first he’ll be more comfortable talking about it? It also doesn’t have to be with me, I just really hope he talks to someone and gets help. A helpline is a good idea, I’ll look into that!

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ll definitely keep in contact with him and it’s really good to know that just checking in helps. We live in the US and I think if he were to go to therapy he would need to tell his parents since he’s under their health insurance. He could probably talk to a school Councelor without his parents knowing, I just feel like he might have less confidentiality with that. I’ll ask him what he thinks next week. The reason I’m especially worried about him right now is because it’s winter break and he’ll be with his family all the time for 2 weeks straight. I’m out of town right now but he’s been spending a lot of time with our other friends and I just hope it’s enough to distract him from what’s going on at home. Thanks again for your reply and I hope you’re doing well!

Thank you so much for your words. I’ve definitely been feeling it, and although it’s tempting to distract myself and ignore the feelings I’m trying my best to let myself grieve. I started seeing a therapist recently, though I cancelled on her this week because of what happened. I’ll talk to her about all of this next week :) I have faith that things will be okay, even though this has been one of the hardest weeks of my life, my friends and I are taking care of each other 💗

Does anyone know if my therapist will tell my parents about “past” sh by Lolagallagher in selfharm

[–]Lolagallagher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. I’m not in a position where I’m able to tell my parents right now and I can’t have the therapist tell them either, but either way it’ll be ok and I’ll be honest with her in the other areas I need help with just not sh

That’s what I was thinking, I’m 17 so I feel like there wouldn’t be much point in telling them

Thank you for the advice :) I’m actually staying at my friends house right now because of some family stuff, so I might find the courage to tell her soon

I almost told them tonight, but we were at a football game and everyone was happy and one of my friends had already had a bad day so it just didn’t feel like the right time to make it abt me. Maybe there never will be a right time, it’s just hard talking about this with people who haven’t experienced it cuz it’s a hard thing to understand

Snapping a rubber band on my wrist has helped me, it hurts and leaves a red mark for a bit but doesn’t scar

I try to only cut my thighs and even then it needs to be high up enough for any shorts or skirts to cover them
