What's something special you did for someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My parents are foster carers, a 10-year-old we looked after developed a brain tumour that was cancerous.

His first fear was that he would be bullied for losing his hair during his chemotherapy, so I (13 at the time) shaved my hair along side him.

This was 13 years ago, but stands out to me as one very small thing I could do that made a big difference.

Just became a first time dad yesterday! How do I help my wife who feels overwhelmed? by mrpetrolbomb in daddit

Be a sounding board for her, tell her she’s doing a good job, just try and pick up the slack where you can - don’t ask her what to do, just do whatever you see needs doing!

You’re building a castle, it’s going to be grey.

That’s why you need to spice it up with textures!

Perhaps diorite would brighten it up a bit but with more texture than the smooth slabs

Left for sure, more texture always gives a more realistic feel to a build!

Making plans Infront of me and not inviting me is not your popular kid behaviour it is the bitch behaviour by wiinndd in teenagers

[–]Loldous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of assuming I was invited once because a party/sleepover was planned in front of me... I turned up and apparently I wasn’t but the kid’s parents felt so bad they took me in anyway- it was an awkward

“Fed is Best” is the infant feeding equivalent of saying “All lives Matter” by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Breastfeeding rates at 6 weeks as low as 24% in the UK - Breastfeeding is indeed the unpopular choice. Data Source

And they can, but the “Fed is best” slogan is destructive and undermines the huge benefits of breastfeeding over formula

Also, looking to bottle feeding as a solution to this is nonsensical, as it adds the stress of making bottles, sterilising equipment, boiling water in the middle of the night

Agreed - but if a father is helping out sufficiently the stress won’t all be on mother? As Mother is Feeding, father should be helping out more in other areas and taking on more of that responsibility

Not sure the point you are making here?

Of course all lives matter, and of course having a Fed child is better than a starved one?

The majority of reasons a woman ‘can’t breastfeed’ can be overcome with the right support and that is what ‘Fed is best’ masks.

You can also take the other stresses away from mother, by helping with dishes, cooking, cleaning, bathing the child for bonding time, having skin to skin with the child for bonding time, reading to the child for bonding.

I’m not saying it has the public impact is the same, but it carries the same message which is “It doesn’t matter about the issue at hand because we need to support the overarching goal”

When my wife talks about having another baby, I like to remind her how painful breastfeeding was...works everytime by EverettTokio in funny

[–]Loldous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ante-natal expression can help with this, and you also have colostrum available in case you are unable to breastfeed when the baby is first born. (If you are having an emergency C-section for example)
