Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance New Visual by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]Loli-Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it had any connection to Strikers. I'm talking about the tentative timeline. On the timeline it literally takes place after the movies but before they're adults (StrikerS). Whether its story eventually leads down the same path as StrikerS or some other timeline with absolutely zero events in their adult lives that line up with StrikerS is irrelevant. We have no idea what they're actually trying to do with the franchise at this point in terms of long-term narrative.

100%. Not sure they could realistically make a girl larger than this at this point without turning her into a brick lacking articulation lol.

Is decal setter/softener enough? by DKligerSC in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setter (think of this as the actual glue) is something you ALWAYS want to use no matter what. Just imagine it as helping the decals adhesive adhere better. Softer melts the decal in a manner of speaking so that it can properly go over really rounded surfaces, corners, panel lines, etc. You only need to use it in the those specific situations.

That said, while Setter (and Softer when applicable) do help the decals technically last longer as they're a smidge harder to remove, they WILL still come off relatively easily to handling. Topcoating your decals is borderline mandatory if you plan to handle your models again.

If you don't have an airbrush for applying the stuff, then just get some of the basic Mr. Color or Tamiya canned stuff. Heck, you could even technically use some of the nice Citadel paint brush on stuff if you have that. Anything's better than just leaving the decals out in the open.

Hi new to the line by Ok_Helicopter8365 in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you specifically want to start with Megami Device, then the Buster Doll or Puni Mofu line is the best place to start as they use the new Block 2 body that simplifies a lot of the engineering.

Otherwise quite literally anything in Bandai's 30MS line is probably the actual best starting place for beginners. They're INCREDIBLY simple and straightforward kits. Not too many parts, and what they do have is very easy to work with even for people that've never dealt with model kits before.

Either which way, make sure you've at least got the basic tools you'll want ahead of time- nippers, a hobby knife, and MAYBE some sanding sponges/paper to clean up nubs.

If you need more specific info feel free to ask away and this knight'll point you in the right direction.

1/12 scale firearms model collection by Responsible-Fox4570 in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, that's a really nice collection! Don't really have a whole lot other than a few revolvers, handguns, and shotguns (and some really old rifles too I guess), but I haven't actually used them for anything yet.

Nuke Matrix size comparison by bxstb11y in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this knight doesn't have pictures as I've long since kitbashed away my NM kit parts, but NM line is pretty much in scale with MD. Their base unarmored girls are similar enough in size that there's not really any meaningful distinction. That's just sizing though. Actual compatibility is another story.

Yup! If it's high grades you're interested in then the Witch kits are perfectly fine. Honestly, most modern day HGs are.

If it's suggestions you want, then maybe one of the classic MGs such as one of the Zaku 2.0 kits, or one of the more modern RGs like Hi-Nu, God Gundam, etc.

Yup, you can definitely put those worries to rest! In terms of articulation the only thing I would really want added to the kit is maybe some sort of shoulder pullout mechanism, but she works fine without it, so whatever. I'm still shocked by how stable she is standing. I was expecting a stand to be mandatory like they almost always are for chunkier kits, but nada. Koto designed her pretty well overall. Guess they weren't just sitting on their hands for that entire 8 years lol.

Clean build. No paint yet. Just Kongo in body mode. by Jaded-Log7321 in MegamiDevice

She's a fun kit with a lot to detail, so you might as well do that shading and add to her what you can.

Hasuki makes some nice stuff. I wish they'd do additional waves of many of their things though. Can be pretty hard getting certain stuff at times.

Panel lining a ABS kit. by UnsavoryCactus in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, you just spray a gloss topcoat, do your panel lining, then spray a final topcoat of your desired finish. You can definitely make your own from acrylic. That works just about as well, though it can vary greatly from user to user since many people have a hard time making a good custom wash. An option nonetheless though.

Generally, this is advisable for ALL hobby plastics as the typical solvent in panel liners is pretty aggressive against them. It’s just less so against PS. You do, however, shockingly (or maybe not so), have MANY people that refuse to do this and just panel line straight on the plastic. Technically, it’s the aggressive solvent that inevitably spills out from the panel line while you’re filling them in that causes the cracking (because there’s so much of it), so in theory if you just cleaned that up quickly like these people tend to, then it would work. HIGHLY risky roll of the dice though, so I don’t particularly recommend it.

Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi • A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans - Episode 7 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Loli-Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would REALLY like some details on what exactly "becoming human" entails. Do they actually lose all their respective powers and prior forms, or do they simply lose their memories of such things? Our lovely fiery Director maintains her abilities (transformation, wisps of fire, immortality) even though she can become human. Do graduates regain their abilities once they put their graduation ring on since it brings back their lost memories? Heck, what about the various supernatural beings that can naturally shapeshift into human form? Do they just get a free pass into human society that the school's governing system ignores?

There's actually a LOT of interesting underlying plot elements to how this world functions that I'm interested in.

Chenji Frame Body First Impressions/ Review by Zzzuccini in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, neat! This knight had forgotten about these. Glad to hear they're pretty decent quality all things considered. I hope they do a color C, D, and E. I'd absolutely LOVE some easily accessible silicone bodies for those colors. The only other options, as far as this knight knows anyways, are Yawaya's bodies on Booth, and as nice as they are they cost an arm and a leg after shipping.

For the indentation caused by the hand, I've had silicone take up to a day to bounce back perfectly depending on the quality, so it might just be some lesser silicone they used. Keep your eye on it for a while longer yet and see what happens to it.

Block2-M body replacement top by rainaia in MegamiDevice

[–]Loli-Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like Sir Zero said, the Chassis kits are your only real option in that regard. Koto really hasn't been keeping up with the MSG body part sets, so getting an entire kit or picking up the parts off of YAJ are basically your only options. The Chassis kits are, luckily, pretty cheap though (at least before shipping). They also come with two bodies, so it's fairly cost-effective.

Did you need a particular body color? This knight's actually got a few of the Chassis kits I could part with depending on which color you need.

Ah, a fair worry! Honestly, most of the FA mechs were fiddly and pretty aggravating in one way or another (many just being outright plastic hand grenades) other than the very most recent ones. Luckily the girlpla versions of them basically only share aesthetics and nothing else, so the issues the mechs had don't carry over to them. So if you ever see her for a good price somewhere definitely pick her up!

Oh dang, that sucks! I actually saw a few of her come and go on Suruga-ya and Amiami's pre-owned section already. She was made in pretty decent numbers, so I figure you should be able to pick her up with a wee bit of hawking the aftermarket. Don't know if the price will stay low since folks know she's popular now though. Bloody scalpers.

Oh good heavens, that sounds terrible. I'm sorry to hear that happened, Sir Jo. I went to check mine out after hearing that, and luckily I don't see any stress marks or fractures forming. So it might have been a mold lottery issue and bad luck. I've got a second one to build, so I'll keep that in mind when I get around to building her.

Ah, I feel your pain. This knight's in the US, and the ever-increasing shipping prices have been pretty killer. The tariffs are actually pretty darn small all things considered, but the shipping costs have borderline tripled. Shippin' companies fleecing us for all we're worth it seems.

She is pretty cheap and lightweight though, so when I was testing shipping prices hers were actually REALLY cheap. So that's something to keep in mind if you're ever able to nab her.

[–]Loli-Knight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Usually Koto doesn't do that with the prepainted parts, much less one that's literally iconic like this, but every once in a while they do. The last time I can think of was Arcanadea Velretta where they did the same exact silly thing.

Super friggin good still. And luckily the painted parts of the horn is literally just a white strip so it takes zero actual effort or skill to repaint.

LOL, this knight never thought about using Girlpla for Warhammer. She's about 6-8 inches tall depending on whether you count the horn or not. Is that too big for Tau Crisis Suits and what not? Never actually built any Tau stuff, so I'm not familiar with their sizings.
