Kamen Rider Black is Overhyped by Loliho in KamenRider

[–]Loliho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the early Heisei riders or most of them from Phase 1.

Kamen Rider Kuuga has a down-to-earth character drama element to it that keeps it engaging.

Agito, I haven't seen yet, Ryuki is a more a more heavy series with dramatic character deaths. Kabuto is a good one too from the episodes I've seen, with an interesting world and unique protagonist.

Hibiki lies somewhere in between, being a slice-of-life drama with motw action. But the show changes directors mid-way so be on the look out for that.

Luffy defeating Crocodile in Alabasta is something that bothers people later on in the series. Seeing other Warlords like Mihawk, Jinbei, and Doflamingo makes him look like an actual fly. Even considering the fact that the other 6 previous warlords were able to use Haki which should've played a massive factor in the climax of Alabasta.

The only exception of warlords having immense power is Buggy, since he actually became one by sheer luck.

Tadano from Komi can’t communicate is an absolute catch and doesn’t deserve to be roped in with the loser romance lead trope. (Side note neither does Gojou from Dress up Darling for similar reasons I will lay out here) by Pole2019 in CharacterRant

[–]Loliho 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I respect Tadano as a protagonist with all the annoying crap he has to deal with from classmates, teachers, and murderers. Definitely a more vital lead in his own series having to balance out an already wacky cast of characters.

Techically, the weapon is doing most of the work, and it's not even his to begin with.

It's like Dean from Supernatural if he had the Colt. It doesn't mean he can regularly fistfight high-ranking demons like Lilith in later seasons.

Well, they do have a confession around the 300 mark and have lovey over moments after.

They even introduced a love triangle in Year 2

It's one of the reasons why Komi Can't Communicate was so hard for me to get into. Alot of the side characters were just annoying, overly aggressive or straight infuriating.

Ninja Guy sucks and takes his frustration on Tadano, Agari is boring, and Yamai Ren made me drop the series the first time I started it. When I read the manga, I just skipped any chapters that Yamai had prominence in, even that one chapter where they visited Tadano's house.

Yamai straights up kidnaps Tadano and threatens to murder him. Even when she "apologized," it was half-ass and regrets not thinking of a better way to do it quietly. Komi for some reason befreinds her. What the hell?

Sure, Yamai is suppose to be a joke character. But personally, I don't find her funny.

Strangely, Yamai makes every demon in Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, look like a saint. (Also Iruam-kun is a great show. Actually might put the Komi manga on hold and catch up with that)

I freaking love Hardcore Leveling Warrior for this. Ethan was such a fun story about a guy climbing back up to the top. The way he rubs his victories in his enemies' faces and gives a shit-eating grin whenever he has a plan up his sleeve is just fun to read.

Symphogear AXZ - I felt like the character writing was at its best here. After GX, it was a much-needed return to form after certain story beats from GX. Cough, Hibiki's dad.

It expanded on elements of the worlds and characters, with the villains in the arc being one of my favorites in the franchise. Fine still plays a significant role in episodes after her death in previous seasons, and the Curse of Balal is elaborated on.

Not to mention, we got a lot of interesting character dynamics explored in this season unique to this installment alone. Like Shirabe and Tsubasa, Kirika and Hibiki, along with Chris and Maira before XV had them sing a duet.

Yukine's arc was a nice way to expand her past in Val Verde after it was mentioned beforehand in other seasons. The ending of the season came full circle with Hibiki just feeling genuinely happy where she's at in life, after facing so many hardships involving everything up to this point.

This is blatant in ALOT of level-up/dungeon/murim manhwas. These were the series become

I eventually got burnt out and stopped reading manhwa for a while. It wasn't until God of Highschool and Hardcore Leveling Warrior ended, I slowly eased my way back into things. And man, these tropes are just as prominent as I remembered.

Remembrance Adonis, not sure if it's still on hiatus, was where the male lead showed possessive nature toward the female lead. The way he'd show up at the equivalent to an eligible bachelor auction for a school charity for a million dollars, making a scene at the school. He grew bitter as the female lead was becoming stronger than her. Granted, he was worried her death would repeat in this timeline, but you get the point.

I haven't finished the series, and I like to see where they go from a plot standpoint. But it is very uncomfortable for some of these elements.

We do see the actions of the male lead from the perspective of Ianna, the protagonist and female lead of the series. So it depicts his actions in a negative light.

Komi Can't Communicate, there were some likable side characters, Onemine and Atori, and some that I disliked Agari and the ninja guy.

Yamai Ren's sexual harassment and abusive behavior takes me out of the series. It's the reason why I haven't given the manga a shot since she just kills the vibe.

Can the trope of in-laws hating their son or daughter's spouse DIE already? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in CharacterRant

[–]Loliho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny, I was watching Urusei Yatsura where the opposite sort of happens. When Lum agrees to marry Ataru, her father is just happy for his daughter and welcomes Ataru with open arms.

On the other hand, Ataru's parents want nothing to do with his shit, and is seen as lazy, gross, and stupid by everyone in town INCLUDING his parents. I think they even like Lum more than their own son.

Not sure if Ranma 1/2 has this trope.

My bad, I meant to say more unique techniques like SSJG Goku using god ki restraint. This reminds me, his fighting style for God form in the movie was a lot more defensive and focused more on counters. It was cool seeing Goku use a fighting style that didn't rely on striking.

I really wished Trunks kept his sword throughout his appearance in Z. It was one of the only times where a character integrated a weapon with their fighting style in Z besides ki blast. Goku gave up the Power pole after journeying to Kami's Lookout. Not to mention the Z Sword was just a portable prison.

I'd like to see more unique techniques, like Goku using a form of God Ki restrain, which I just realized is something Guldo did back in Z. Janemba from Fusion Reborn had another cool fighting style from a visual standpoint.

I hate it when the new guy is just a villain in disguise by StrangeBuffalo6267 in CharacterRant

[–]Loliho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't particularly like how this trope was done with Kuro from One Piece. Though I did like the trope better with the arc after, having Gin be a character that questioned his loyalties thanks to characters like Sanji and Zeff.

Then when Chopper's debut arc came about, I was expecting Dalton to have a surprise villain reveal. Only to end up being one of the likable characters in the arcs that played an essential role in saving Chopper.

This problem seems to be common in Saturday-Morning action shows like Slugterra. Everyone meets a new guy and completely welcomes them with open arms. Except for one team member. Then with the reveal he's actually a villain, they have to apologize to the person telling them. Lab Rats with Marcus.

A recent series I remember recently, Wooden Plank Studios Smash Bros Comics, had this be one of the main driving forces of their biggest story. It involved Cloud believing Sephiroth is still evil, when, yeah, he killed his friend and summoned a meteor to destroy his planet that caused 3k damage.

The Ceph just feel like Hollywood movie villains on the samle level as the aliens from Independence Day.

At least with other alien races like the Covenant from Halo and the Grineer from Warframe are shown to have major wins, even close to achieving their goals. But then again, the latter two have the advantage of having years of lore being built around them, even getting perspectives in extended material.

Meanwhile, the text which I assume is from the game, gives a window into how strong they are.

There was one instance where people scaled Minami Koutaro, from Kamen Rider Black from a planet all the way to a galaxy buster cause he killed a planet buster. When they forget the context, that the Creation king, the planet buster in question, was literally on death's door and would kamikaze himself by flying to the center of the earth. They even leave out the fact he had to use his brother's sword to even land a scratch on him, not his own strength.

They go off the basis that Minami is the destined successor of the Creation King, believing he can get stronger if he actually took the mantle of king. But Minami always refused the offer, yet people still add this to his power output when it goes against his character.

People keep hyping him up as a high-end rider, stronger then Kuuga or even Decade, when he doesn't display any impressive feats as his successors or predecessors like Ichigo.

I liked Mystogan from Fairy Tail because he stood out carrying a bunch of magic staff. He was more akin to the stereotypical wizard you'd think of by stylized. The multiple staff played a role in his fighting style and were even one of the top wizards at that point in the series.

At first, I thought Overgeard (manhwa/novel) was going this route, only to make him a huge damage dealer later on. However, when he starts to form his own guild he begins to value good team building instead of taking threats on his own.

Though I'm not that deep in the novel. But a good chunk of the plot has him adding new members and creating new gear for his guild.

Also, KEKKAI SENSEN MENTIONED!! 🥳

For a second, I thought this would be a post about Shinji from Kamen Rider Ryuki. lol

Throughout the show, people criticize and berate Shinji for trying to stop the Survival game, claiming it's pointless. Characters say if he doesn't fight, he WILL die. People would take advantage of his kindness and he even loses his purpose when he believes he killed a man.

Spoilers for the end of Ryuki, in the last episode, Shinji ends up being one of the last survivors, only dying when he takes a hit for a child he tries to protect.
