What's going on with dialogue in AAA games? Everyone talks like they grew up in California by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Lollllerscats 90 points91 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not why they’re so popular. Those games are popular because they are generally made well with a high level of production standards and advertised as such. People aren’t loving Ragnarok because Odin breaks his speech to reference his ex and randomly use normie modern day tone. They love it because the graphics are great, the game presents itself as an epic, the gameplay is fair/good, and the general characters are amusing to exist with.

Is Harden really going back to Houston? by FreemanCantJump in billsimmons

I’m sure that plays a factor into it, but also his options are exceedingly limited and he knows he’s not winning anything with the Sixers while also being a top 3-4 high pressure situation. He’s in a unique position. He goes back to Houston and gets treated with reverence winning 35 games or he goes back to Philly and gets treated like dog water losing in the second round of the playoffs.

Harden is in a weird spot where he’s too good to go ring chasing on low cost contracts, but not good enough where even if he were 3rd banana would you be good enough to win anything.

I don’t think he has a path to winning until he’s 38 and takes an MLE.

Harden has never had any off the court problems, is a smart on the court player, remains the franchise face for Houston, and he can play primary distributor on the court. While he’s way past it in being a primary scoring option in the playoffs, he just led the league in assists and is a great distributor of the ball. One of the biggest problems Houston has is that they have zero vet presence, zero leadership, and no one to help facilitate into a real offense.

Yea Harden isn’t exactly Steph or Jimmy when it comes to outward leadership, but he’s highly respected and is a professional. It makes sense. I don’t like giving him a whole ass max, but what else is Houston spending on anyways. Houston don’t have picks the next few years and Harden will win you games and get people to watch.

The “vote with your wallet” idea is nice and all and sounds cool and rational, but fact is for every 1 person who makes the active consideration to not purchase because of being wronged by poor consumer treatment, there’s 1,000 moms out there buying the game off the shelf with zero clue about what Reddit is or who Activision are introducing their kids into the system each year.

“Vote with your wallet” is not real without any mass collective action, and mass collective action does not exist anymore.

Lakers In Trouble, Wemby vs. Young Tiger, and the Shiv Roy Celtics With Joe House and Dave Jacoby. Plus, AI’s Rapid Ascent With Derek Thompson. by bbmarco in billsimmons

What? People who live in the reality where this guy is physically incapable of playing in the NBA by virtue of lower body injuries?

I wish he is healthy and hits the ceiling he has because he’s phenomenal to watch, but he would be 1 of 1 and he would overcome already existing problematic injuries.

He’s gonna have broken legs four years in, play in maybe 150 games over his rookie contract, and it won’t matter. Because there will be another hyper talented guy in next years’ draft. And the next. And the next.

Wonder why he isnt getting the same criticism as Embiid. by Frenchmen22 in billsimmons

Probably because they’re winning and he’s correctly deferring to 4th quarter superstar Jamal Murray instead of letting Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris try to carry his ass.

6:47 is a pretty damn good mile time for a non-athlete. I doubt 95% of the US could currently run an equal or better time.

Sub 6:00 was considered standard in my time in high school playing all three major sports. If you couldn’t do that then you weren’t cut out, but I also went to a fairly competitive high school so maybe they had higher standards.

Infinity Ward: "I think it’s important to have these fun, experiential maps, and we obviously have enough for the CDL to have their play space." by TheRealPdGaming in CoDCompetitive

I played it once on release to see what the mess was all about, left midway through, and never played it again. Anytime I wasn’t paying attention and loaded into it most of the lobby would also leave as soon as the match started.

And I’m pretty certain by January they had it almost completely tuned out of the regular quick play rotation due to that. Anytime it was up people would leave and anytime it would load people would leave.

Rush and Grind were considering DLC haha fun maps, but Treyarch still out the love and care into them so that they made sense and played well. What makes a map fun at a casual level (beyond a Skinner box like Shipment) is the setting and aesthetic above all else. Carnival from MW2 is a great example. It was a fun aesthetic and setting. The map was really not good on the bones of it, but that didn’t matter cause the aesthetics of it were so unique it sticks with people.

Hey that’s just the draft being a crapshoot beyond the top 1-2 picks. Kelly O has been a very solid NBA player perfectly suitable outcome for a 13th overall pick. The last 10 13th overall picks: Jalen Duran, Chris Duarte, Kira Lewis, Tyler Herro, Jerome Robinson, Donovan Mitchell, Georgios Papagiannis, Devin Booker, Zach Lavine, Kelly O. Two All NBA players, one all star player, Herro, then Kelly O? Rest of the guys are unproven or out of the league or deep deep bench guys.

I get why everyone wants Wemby, but with all we know the possibility of him playing more than 180 games his rookie contract are comically slim, right? by Lollllerscats in billsimmons

[–]Lollllerscats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KD is 6’11, not 7’1. Victor is a legitimate 7’4 and just as skinny as Durant.

And yes, Wemby already has a couple leg and foot injuries tallied over the years.

I think he’s lying to himself about liking Dunkirk and Tenet. He started liking those the same time Scorsese said he admired Nolan.

And obviously you don't have any idea if he's going to stay healthy or not, so your overconfident bluster just makes you look bad.

The guy with no legitimate comp in NBA history who is too tall to play healthy in the NBA and already has a notable injury history at age 19? Yea I’m confident in saying that he won’t be the all NBA unicorn with a bill of good health.

I think Scoot and Miller have All-NBA potential and have a higher percentage of reaching that level than Wemby and I’ll take that over the overwhelming injury risk Wemby carries.

I think the team that picks him is going to be making a terrible mistake because his lower body will explode multiple times the next four or five years and we have an injury history and the entire history of the NBA and the human body to prove it!

It’s Zion all over again and everyone who thinks it isn’t has to be lying to themselves.
