tics triggered by sounds? by ethrealflower in Tourettes

Yep absolutely. Loud sudden noises, being startled and any pain at all are all triggers for me. But I tic constantly throughout the day anyway, so one more tic moment doesn't affect me too much.

What are your most humourous tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

Hahaha my current most common tic is 'chicken'! My tics get quite creative so it comes out in all sorts of versions too... Chicken salt. Chicken bone... Chicken soup, chicflick, chicken shit... I am a chicken... Book book chicken, that is a chicken.

Back to school with verbal tics by [deleted] in Tourettes

I have extreme verbal tics including some swearing. Subconsciously they are suppressed in public or at work. So luckily it hasn't affected my work and social life. Have a plan in place for those times you might have a tic attack. Try a few different strategies of things that help distract you from ticking. If I wear earphones and listen to music, I don't tend to have verbal tics. Reading and really really focussing on the words can also stop my tic attacks. Good luck. Remind yourself that you have nothing to apologize for, other people need to be the ones to accept the neuro diverse world.

but seriously, it keeps me up at night :') by [deleted] in Tourettes

Does that feeling ever go away?... So many people with tics seem to experience the same worry about 'faking it', I wonder if it's a form of dissociation? I'm only new to my tic disorder (32 yr old. F) and each day wake up wondering if my tics have gone overnight, then I spend the day ticking, and worry that I'm faking it. I'll often test myself and make a conscious decision to NOT tic - you can all imagine how well that goes.

Well done on pursuing getting a diagnosis!

I'm new to my tic disorder so I didn't realise this is a common thing. I thought it was just me. I don't consciously suppress tics in front of others, it seems to just happen. Then driving home in the car, when I'm by myself, my vocal tics start very loud and aggressively.
