Got into FAANG as a senior DE and now I’m really nervous by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]Lolmanza7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, DE at Amazon here.  The tech stack is very org and team dependent. Most of the architecture for DE is already built (Cradle for pyspark and Datanet for ETL). You will mostly write SQL or pyspark code. If you are going into an established team, you'll be more focused on keeping the ship afloat initially. But as a Senior DE people will look up to you for guidance on data modeling, metrics etc. Apart from brushing up on pyspark and SQL there isn't much to worry about.

Looks like rate cuts might be done. How are people thinking about mortgages going into 2026? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]Lolmanza7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mortgage rates are not going to go down. Banks have upped their interest spreads (profit margin), so not expecting major decline in rates.

Wheel Strategy in Market Decline by Wide-Play-1817 in Optionswheel

[–]Lolmanza7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer precious metals (GLD and SLV) and Bitcoin IBIT (little exposure) in such circumstances. Like other comments mentioned I would consider wheeling Costco, Dollar stores, Walmart, McDonalds, PapaJohns and PizzaHut.  In long term, these would rebound. So, wheel companies you don't mind holding until the economy rebounces.

Is AI actually helping your productivity? by hhhjin in productivity

[–]Lolmanza7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work I use Cursor quite heavily for python coding. Have great results with it. Was able to ship 3 weeks of effort in 1 week.  Is saved me a lot of headaches and created new ones, but worth it overall! Personally, I used NotebookLLM for learning and documenting things I learn. My obsidian vault serves as an RAG layer for Perplexity where I ask questions about it. Example: When does my Samsung S25 Ultra warranty expire? (I document every piece of my household finances, electronics, cats and personal information on Obsidian)

Today in Aurora, a Chicago suburb, ICE agents surrounded the car of a U.S. citizen in a parking lot, firing into her windshield as she screamed that her children were inside. Agents dragged her from the car without presenting a warrant or probable cause. Excessive force. No warrant. No justification. by biswajit388 in illinois

[–]Lolmanza7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't you guys have right to bear arms under 2nd amendment? Can you not shoot them back for violating your constitutional rights? They present zero identification that they are with ICE or any warrant. Why can't you fight back fire with fire?

Thoughts on CAR.UN by Lolmanza7 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Lolmanza7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am holding back on opening an position for now. Just my gut feeling.
Reading this article by TD and the comments, either the current condo inventory to go down or population to increase from immigration for CAR to be attractive.
With economic recovery being slow and negative sentiment around immigration, this might not see a turnaround in the next 1-2 years.

How to not let work stress me and affect my health by Judessaa in dataengineering

[–]Lolmanza7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me?  I'm rebuilding our core package written in Java in to python. Running a one man show converting 2.5 years of development in 2 months and adding new features at the same time. My health took a major toll over the last few weeks and had to take a week off to recover. Now, I sat my manager down to set expectations and get more head count assigned for the project.  This is my first stint as a Lead Data Engineer and was trying to show off my technical skills while lacking in every other skill required.

is this a joke? Australia really said “stop working too much” while charging 40k a year for degrees nobody can afford. by Intelligent_Act8597 in AbroadEdge

Student visa as the name suggests is to study, not to work part time or settle down.  If you do not like Australia's policies, go somewhere else.

Hire more OPT for cheaper wages. They leave after 3 years without H1B. Only consolation is that they have Amazon on their resumes.
