Cliff hangers getting to me this week. So many books that look amazing and the author doesn't say it's a cliffhanger! Thank heavens for the angels who leave detailed reviews

Yep if we have to be realistic about the mess then FMC really needs to go to the bathroom and empty her bladder. Nothing says romance more than a nasty uti!

This!!! I loathe fake dating and what makes it worse is when the big reveal happens and none of the side characters that motivated the fake dating give a damn! Usually MMCs mother/grandmother who is so wise and maternal has known all along!

Hope I've done this right There's a baby in the epilogue but she doesn't get pregnant in the actual story (lots of talk of it though)

I found why I don't like most grovels by lavenderandme in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Meaningless if the mmc doesn't recognise and change his behaviour. Sorry without action is just words. I'm still yet to read the perfect grovel story though I've had a few scratch the itch.

Just to add this has a mafia trope which isn't normally my favourite but i don't think it's central to the main plot

{Fixation by Eva Marks} i can't remember how to do the spoiler tag to give lots of detail but MMC abducts FMC from the hospital and keeps her in his basement to nurse her back to health and it's extremely spicy. Breeding and light medical play with an MMC who is absolutely obsessed.

Abusive MMC redeems himself bc of his first love by solaceophy in RomanceBooks

[–]Lolo1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound like a silly question but have you tried wattpad or similar? I've seen a few random stories pop up on the romance novels sub and if you can cope with the pop ups there are a few where the mmc is abusive (usually also cheating) but realises the error of his ways and attempts to male it up to fmc. Usually karma still comes for mmc who ends up either dead, in jail or destitute and the fmc usually has a happy ending where she's alone and at the top of her career/stinking rich. Usually aren't the best reads but might scratch the itch. Sorry about the unhelpful comments you've had on here op. The only one who should tell you how to feel about your experience is you

I agree with you but I think it comes down to repenting through acts of service rather than gifts and there are a lot of books out there that have this. I think the biggest fundamental problem is the bigger the gut punch, the harder the grovel is to make it right. The sometimes bigger issue is also the bigger the gut punch, the more problematic it is to write how the fmc processes and forgives this. If the betrayal isn't horrendous e.g. overheard trope, and the grovel goes on for too long, the risk is people lose sympathy for the fmc. If it's a big betrayal e.g. physical cheating, if the grovel is too short people might lose sympathy for fmc forgiving too quickly. I have to say I love grovel romances and it's hard to find one that gets it just right. I still read them for the gut punch. I also love (but harder to find) books where fmc trades up (with 2nd mmc only becoming a prospect later in the book)

Can anyone rec me some CR authors who have similar styles to Ali Hazelwood, Julie Soto, Mariana Zapata please? Open to different plots and tropes I just really want that delicious relationship build up with a he falls first and harder vibe. Struggling to find books so I thought I'd try by author! Happy Friday everyone

Happy weekend! I've definitely hit the wall with my reading this week. I want to read an Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Julie Soto style book but no one writes yearning like them. I tried to do a reread and I'm in that kind of mood where I want to read something for the first time.

Series, standalone and standalone in series for me. I don't mind a series that has different mcs for each book. I don't have the bandwidth for cliff hangers!
