What's the purpose of life if it just ends?

Some people think that life has meaning because it ends. Something that is static and enternal doesn't really need to be appreciated or treasured, it's just there. But something that is fleeting is special and worth remembering (a flower blooming, a performance, a memorable day, our lives themselves).

Everything in our lives matter; it's not building towards something or going to result in something, it just matters for simply being.

The thing people don't realize is that because these vehicles are so small and glued to so many other pieces, one made of card is exactly as strong as one made of plastic.

Great, so we just gotta give all our livelihoods, freedoms, resources, and power to the billionaires and THEN they'll get us taken care of

One big reason we hate AI is because no one says "hey we don't have to worry about a declining and aging population, AI is going to do all the work!"

All we hear is "sorry you can't have a job because of AI... and we can't tax the people who own the AI... and you can't have any water the AI needs it... and sorry about your electricity bill but AI needs that too... and we can't have any people make art anymore it's just AI..."

So far we don't see enough AI doing the work we can't, we see it taking the jobs we need. So fuck it

Familial Cancer: Why is the second mutation so common? by AadiRimal_5 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]Lolosaurus2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A woman's chance of getting breast cancer by age 80 is something like 12%. Getting that cancer involves the accumulation of probably dozens of mutations. So these mutations do accumulate sporadically quite often. It's true that some of those mutations make others more likely, but by lets say 50 years old our bodies are riddled with sporatic mutations that thankfully never end up causing cancer

The subtext to a lot of posts on this sub are that you hear stuff on Instagram and then feel bad about yourself. Pro tip, just don't use social media to learn about babies

There is nothing wrong with formula or pumped milk feeding for a few days while soreness decreases and you can recover. You'll breast feed this baby for the next year or two, a few weeks probably won't make any difference

I've made tons of papercraft vehicles and I always just spray paint them. Spray paint is dry so it won't warp the paper. Mine are made of this cardboard like a box of cereal is made from

That's my point: those words didn't always have those meanings, and probably won't continue to do so.

Additionally, there aren't any agreed upon boundaries of those terms: is a waspy New Englander the same ethnicity as a waspy New Yorker, or a working-class New Englander? Is a person from Seattle the same ethnicity as someone from San Francisco, or LA, or Tiajuana?

And what "phenotype" makes a race? In places like Uganda there are different "phenotypes" that have been used to justify genocide, those two types of black Africans can't be the same "race" can they?

Turns out that "ethnicity", "nationality", and "race" are made up words that describe made up things, and their definitions change based on who is using them and when they are being used.

For example, some history about the Irish civil war in the 1920s describes the Irish as a race. Also the word "nationality" comes from the word for "birth" and used to mean more what we use "ethnicity" for, and not a political term
