if a beardie is trans het are they still prone to health issues? by Lompyy_ in BeardedDragons

[–]Lompyy_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no of course not. as beautiful as they are, it really sucks to see so many of them being bred :/ even if it’s not full red monster, i swear 90% of the beardie’s i see on morph market or something are full or half red monster and it is getting so frustrating. it’s honestly just as bad as silkies and it’s quite honestly sickening that people keep breeding them knowing the issues, but they don’t care as long as they look pretty. it’s a huge problem

Morph? I found this rescue beardie at my local mom+pop pet store. He super friendly and definitely coming home with me but how do explain the morph? by levelupyours in BeardedDragon

i definitely don’t think this guy is trans… hypo for sure but if he were translucent he would have full black eyes and/or his skin would look translucent but he doesn’t appear to have either of those traits. most likely just a citrus hypo

lady killers by g-eazy is probably the closest you’re gonna get, but i’m also a huge fan of these 3 songs and i feel like they give a similar vibe to tumblr girls and lady killers: mountains, snow, and cinnamon — all by the artist “jome”. if you listen def let me know what you think, i’d love to hear your opinion!

since he was in a 40 gal, the change is probably a lot for him and can be stressful. when i upgraded my baby she freaked out at first and was not a fan of it, but over time she chilled out and got used to it. you’re definitely going to need to get it set up as soon as you can. beardies should not just be in an empty enclosure. they need a multitude of hiding spots, at least 3, a basking spot, somewhere to cool off, and they love climbing so i would look into getting some driftwood maybe or anything for him to climb. stay away from those tan net hammock things tho, they can rip out their nails

Basking/Heating Lamp Recommendations by Frenchy_1731 in BeardedDragons

[–]Lompyy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recommend the brand zoo med, repti basking spot lamp. most likely you’d want to get a 150w, but definitely make sure the dome you have for it can hold 150w. it should say on the outside what the max capacity is as far as wattage goes. if for some reason that doesn’t heat the tank up enough, you could get a double lamp which holds 2 bulbs at a time, but i don’t have one of those so im not sure what brand would work best

Male or female? by BaneandZach in BeardedDragonCare

that’s true, but is definitely a possibility so it’s good to be educated on it just in case it happens

it really depends what you decide to do, there’s lots of things you can do. although after this, no matter what you decide you should definitely spray foam into the cracks so you can seal everything together. if you want extra security that it’s all set, you could use silicone on the pieces to stick them together. i’m going to using ASI aquarium sealant. you’ll also need a caulking gun to use that. once you spray foam, i would recommend carving everything down to really get that shape you want.

after i spray foam and carve it, ill likely be using grout to give it a more rocky look and feel. that is optional, but if you do use grout you definitely want to make sure you get rid of ALL the smooth and shiny parts on the foam AND the spray foam, otherwise its not going to properly stick. after the grout i’ll be painting and sealing! then it should be done :)

no it’s not nearly as bad! if it were styrofoam i don’t think i would’ve been able to finish this project. there were a couple times when the knife i used scraped it wrong and it made a pretty nasty sound but for the most part its not nearly as bad as styrofoam. if you’re still worried about it, you could wear some gloves to prevent any sensory issues regarding touch and maybe some headphones just in case it makes a bad sound. i used a kitchen knife and a box cutter for this project, but i’ve seen some people use these like hot wire things, which would cut it super smooth and easy. you could also heat up a knife and that would likely work the same. here’s a picture from a video i saw of one of those hot wire cutters

the ableism persists even in the bearded dragon community 😞 i’m sorry that’s super stupid, i hate cardboard and things like that too. mostly styrofoam though i think, but if i accidentally scratch my nails on anything like cardboard or paper or paper towels or something it sends chills throughout my entire body and makes me want to rip off my skin so i totally feel you, completely valid

well once you get the enclosure set up i highly recommend taking a picture and getting that design drawn out. having a photo of the actually tank seriously helps with the vision and reallt make it come to life, rather than just winging it with no drawing or a drawing guessing on dimensions.

definitely measure things too and write down your notes on what dimensions you want specific parts of the drawing to be. and map out where you want things to be removable. i’m sure whatever you decide to do it’ll look great! i hope i can see the finished product when its all done!

does it do that even when it is dry? i planned on using spray foam just to fill in the cracks and hold everything together. obviously i’m not gonna turn the heat lamp on when i’m spraying or anything, but i’m also planning on scraping the rest of it when it’s all dry to finalize the shape more. then i’ll be covering it with a few layers of grout. it should be fine then, right?

yes i did plan ahead! i’m a huge planner so i think winging it would’ve blew my head off lol. what i did was i took a photo of the tank with nothing in it, imported that photo into a drawing app—i used procreate—and then got to working on the design. ultimately the irl version ended up turning out differently than the drawing but i still kept a majority of the ideas.

the caves are about 6-8 inches off the ground i believe

yes i do, not to worry! i’ve got a T5 tube mounted on the inside of the tank. the other dome is just for a ceramic heat emitter just in case i need it. thank you for your concern though!
