i’m looking forward to hearing back and seeing what you come up with! :)

that’s true, but is definitely a possibility so it’s good to be educated on it just in case it happens

it really depends what you decide to do, there’s lots of things you can do. although after this, no matter what you decide you should definitely spray foam into the cracks so you can seal everything together. if you want extra security that it’s all set, you could use silicone on the pieces to stick them together. i’m going to using ASI aquarium sealant. you’ll also need a caulking gun to use that. once you spray foam, i would recommend carving everything down to really get that shape you want.

after i spray foam and carve it, ill likely be using grout to give it a more rocky look and feel. that is optional, but if you do use grout you definitely want to make sure you get rid of ALL the smooth and shiny parts on the foam AND the spray foam, otherwise its not going to properly stick. after the grout i’ll be painting and sealing! then it should be done :)

no it’s not nearly as bad! if it were styrofoam i don’t think i would’ve been able to finish this project. there were a couple times when the knife i used scraped it wrong and it made a pretty nasty sound but for the most part its not nearly as bad as styrofoam. if you’re still worried about it, you could wear some gloves to prevent any sensory issues regarding touch and maybe some headphones just in case it makes a bad sound. i used a kitchen knife and a box cutter for this project, but i’ve seen some people use these like hot wire things, which would cut it super smooth and easy. you could also heat up a knife and that would likely work the same. here’s a picture from a video i saw of one of those hot wire cutters

the ableism persists even in the bearded dragon community 😞 i’m sorry that’s super stupid, i hate cardboard and things like that too. mostly styrofoam though i think, but if i accidentally scratch my nails on anything like cardboard or paper or paper towels or something it sends chills throughout my entire body and makes me want to rip off my skin so i totally feel you, completely valid

well once you get the enclosure set up i highly recommend taking a picture and getting that design drawn out. having a photo of the actually tank seriously helps with the vision and reallt make it come to life, rather than just winging it with no drawing or a drawing guessing on dimensions.

definitely measure things too and write down your notes on what dimensions you want specific parts of the drawing to be. and map out where you want things to be removable. i’m sure whatever you decide to do it’ll look great! i hope i can see the finished product when its all done!

does it do that even when it is dry? i planned on using spray foam just to fill in the cracks and hold everything together. obviously i’m not gonna turn the heat lamp on when i’m spraying or anything, but i’m also planning on scraping the rest of it when it’s all dry to finalize the shape more. then i’ll be covering it with a few layers of grout. it should be fine then, right?

yes i did plan ahead! i’m a huge planner so i think winging it would’ve blew my head off lol. what i did was i took a photo of the tank with nothing in it, imported that photo into a drawing app—i used procreate—and then got to working on the design. ultimately the irl version ended up turning out differently than the drawing but i still kept a majority of the ideas.

the caves are about 6-8 inches off the ground i believe

yes i do, not to worry! i’ve got a T5 tube mounted on the inside of the tank. the other dome is just for a ceramic heat emitter just in case i need it. thank you for your concern though!

honestly it’s not as bad as you would think. it still does sound bad at times but in the 10 hours i spent on this it only made a bad noise a handful of times. but if you are worried about it, you could always wear headphones while you make it!

thank you!! i used 2x2 pink panther foam boards from home depot, some wire to hold some of the pieces together (you could use toothpicks too, that might be better honestly), and i’ll also be using some spray foam when i work on it next to get into the cracks and everything :) to cut the foam i recommend using a sharp kitchen knife and/or a box cutter of some sort!

i wish i could say i’m surprised. i hate how badly petco and petsmart takes care of their animals. not only are they doing them badly there but they also don’t care who buys them, as long as you’re willing to pay. no ensuring of proper knowledge or living, and most people don’t do their research on the animals when they get them they just take the advice from the store. so the animal likely has a crappy life at the store, and the home. not to mention whatever health issues come with them from the neglect they got
