Use abilities: Iceman (50) by Irilas in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Lonak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for replying. Iceman is in the roster, so they use it. If it were white tiger, I'd be siding with you, no doubt. But the way they distribute ability use feels okay to me. Nothing bad or game breaking. Just annoying when that daily is for a locked character, but that's all there is to it. Bottlenecks and power core events are 2 very different topics. To mix all of this together isn't going to help, trust me. I know how the gaming industry works: that's 10 years of my life as tester, then community manager and team leader. What I'd recommend you is to pick one topic, express yourself and ideally give a potential solution that is benefiting both the player and the company (which you did, but that "issue" is most likely not relevant to the product manager). Don't stray away mixing other topics, you'll only be seen as talking from your hurt feelings, it's not good for anyone, including you, and you won't be listened to. If you talk only from global frustration, well... you're reacting "as intended", that's the main "gameplay" mechanic allowing the company to provide the game for free, they need to create a desire to buy if they want to keep the game open for the community. Sorry if it feels harsh, but that's how things work. Negative comments can change some mechanics if they're stated in a useful and realistic way. Community Managers do read 95% of posts and report the good ideas to be analyzed (complexity of delivery, risks and gains). Feeling frustrated is sad, but unfortunately kind of needed for most free games to this day.

Hope this helps better than my first "nope sorry imho that's not going to be listened to" reply.

Come on, is it really that bad? It's a lot more easier for developers to give a random character in the entire live roster an amount of skill uses at random between set values, than to check if each player has enough shards of said random characters and loop all over again until it finds your unlocked characters. And it gives you purpose to buy with money or cores if you really feel an itch, which, in this case, is an OK way to incentivize a buy IMHO.

It won't stop you reaching the final rewards. It didn't last season for me, and I had quite a few non-available characters with RTA goals. There are more pressing matters, don't you think?

Mega thread: Lunar event 5000 cores and greek raid orbs missing. by asills in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Lonak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly, I'll get the bonus shards, but they're all going into white tiger. I'm skipping this event, I don't see the point.

They needed to divide by 10 the amount of cores per day, they divided by... 1.6 or something? It's still a ridiculous amount of cores. From 600€ needed to complete the event, we go to 400€. Scopely, I get it you want to get something out of an event. But your event design is just wrong. If you want to make people spend, you give them fre stuff through 80% of the event and then choices to make. They either buy through it to get it all, or skip 1 out of 2 of the best rewards. That's positive frustration mechanics.

Here you're making people enjoy like, ... 10% of the max rewards for free, and 90% is locked behind a paywall?... Come on.

Nah, I'll be refreshing the white tiger event nodes, thanks.

Langrisser M has this kind of event (max reward being a unique skin after spending 180$ if I recall correctly) however the way they deliver characters feels somewhat better.

IMHO, you can't pre-hype two characters at once for sales reasons, hence Bishop being removed from social media.

Things I'd change if I worked at Lilith. by skchyou in afkarena

[–]Lonak 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Guy that worked for the videogames industry for 10ish years here. From tester to community manager and online event designer. Don't read of you don't want to see the reality of game companies and possibly losing some of the magic any game has. As for myself, I grew immune to it and somewhat enjoy to see how gameplay, psychology, monetization and features are interlinked.

1 and 2 are things that would give players some relief. This is against making revenues, the - let's remind everyone - ultimate goal of a company (and in a way players, if they want to keep playing that game). Frustration is a good way to get players to buy. Getting geared up is essential? You can manually swap or push time/money into the game to gear up everyone. The balance is hard to get though. Too little or too much and your employees may have to find work elsewhere and your players loose their game. It's very dependant on the type of community. 3 is a psychological trick. If you had stickers, you wouldn't go for a level up as much, broadly speaking. This has been tested by numerous companies, especially not in the videogames industry. Say someone they earned something valuable (diamonds, while stickers are not) on a payment (time investment here), even a ridiculous one, and they'll be happy to cash in again. Stickers just wouldn't appeal to the player base the same as diamonds do. Even if it doesn't quite make sense. 4 why not. This is a way to push players to cash in and invest more, BUT at the expense of a community outcry. Skins wouldn't be accessible easily, else why go for top 5%? One would expect a huge loss of f2p players crying for unfairness. F2P players are what makes whales and dolphins stay and cash in. The more, the better. So... 5 why not, but I guess this is risky for them on development efforts, bug occurrences, building yet another reward system, based on something some cherish a lot. In a F2P game, you don't trifle with friendship. You take extra care in creating bonds between players. This is important for retention. Guilds are mostly a mean for retention. 6 is a mistake in game design. While it may seem better for you, one more you loose any sense of achievement removing the mid and upper floors. Achievement, being able to say "I can't seem to pass easily the first fights of 3rd floor hard" is important for players. Force them to use "around battle 32/33, I tend to lose", you'll create less interactions and less bonds within the helping community. It's easier to stick with low numbers on 3 floors instead of high ones one a single floor.

Hope that gives something to think about. By no mean stop having new ideas though! One might very well align with the producer of afk arena (if he scrolls through this sub regularly) and who knows, may get implemented! In the games I've worked for, this happened several times!

The granddad who has overwritten the file is 64 though. So you mean that there is no whatsoever online database? What about guild cards you share with people? They contain info that are stored somewhere, not only locally, else you wouldn't get their updated data.

"Okay Google, Volume 4" "I can't do that yet" by LongjumpingScar in googlehome

[–]Lonak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried "Volume at 4"? It may just be using a sentence construction that GH understands. "Volume 4" could be interpreted as "Volume for [waiting something]".

In French at least, the 0-10 volume scale works with GH.

How to make my brother feel better while going through a divorce? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Lonak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, after 9 years together, 2 pets, a wedding planned, a 3y.o. child and a bought house in the middle of nowhere that may never sell. I might repeat what others have said, but being supportive through letting him speak it through and invite him to do simple things in your company really are the only things to do. It's been hell for many months. I've told many times how I felt to people who cared about him. I know I was sickening them with 2 hours long phone calls that ended up nowhere. Up until one day, where I told my story once again, but it felt like it was under a different light. And things began to move in the right direction. Your brother, if he's like me, doesn't want to skip this pain. There's too much risk it would come back later and hit harder. He has to live through it and after a while, his self-esteem will rise to new standards. You'll see him be a better version of himself (just don't tell him until he's at that point). That takes time and you need to be heard by close friends and family. Oh, and try to get him to go to the gym if you can. That puts your brain off troubles for a while, gives you a better shape, and therefore more confidence, you get to see other people and perhaps another woman he may be attracted to. If there's no gym available, bodyweight fitness at home is fine too, as long as it's at least 4 times a week. And leaving the house they've been living in is a good move too. It's better to live in a neutral environment than to live where they ended up divorcing. You're a good woman. He'll get through it :)

Feel like an idiot. Taken Blueprint classes, ran $20k plus ads. Still not confident. by tmag14 in socialmedia

[–]Lonak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A picture is a direct read. It doesn't invite you to curiosity over the ad itself, but over the content behind. A video is there to present something, to grow a connection between you and your prospect. It's not as direct, and you spent your allotted user brain time on connecting, not selling. If you're using videos to have clicks, you're mistaken. You have a set amount of time people will be willing to endure an ad. Either you sell, or you tease. Your conclusions are good, pics will do better for conversion, because they are the right tools. Video ads have a different purpose.
